The only potentially interesting thing I would be interested in the show exploring is GaaS and what that means for ongoing games. Like, can you beat WoW? I guess in a manner of speaking you can complete all raids and story content but what happens when the next patch releases? What justifies completing a game like this when the story continues in a general cadence?

I doubt this will be tackled because it’s mainly going to be memberberries of games from over a quarter of a century ago but if you make a world that opens possibility to these settings being able to exist then you should be prepared to have an explanation.

Similarly, what about PvP only games? What constitutes “beating” TF2? Even ignoring when servers shut down in however many years in the future, you can still play offline against bots, so it’s not like it will cease to be when the servers shut down. Does Kit need to turn 2fort into a 24/7 no-cap server to prevent the game from imploding?

There’s potential but I already know with actual mouth breathers like Arin on board the writing will make Sonichu look like the Great American Novel by comparison.

I have a feeling they will only ever explore single player games for the sake of convenience.

The irony is they actually did go to WoW in the original series.

Looking back the video today, i'll post the whole thing ross said about the industry and an extra Q&A thing that i didn't think was useful.

Like i said, ross sounds noble at first but he his faggy hyper idealism makes me angry. I doubt most industry veterans would actually say something so mindless like this because they have experience working with execs and achieveing good results. Like someone said, the oney guys know this and i bet vivziepop would say you must comply with them.

This whole idea that "the evil execs hates creatives" is something you usually hear from

1-People who have no experience or idea how the industry actually works
2-People who got their pitch rejected or flopped (like those netflix wrtiers who cry on twitter)

I assume Ross is a mix of both. Ross is 38 years old and works on game grumps network. If he's like arin (and he should be) then he is probably very unprofessional in general and he probably had his Gameoverse pitch rejected enough to spite the industry and blame executives.

Another thing i dislike is the whole "😊 just make stuff dude 😊 it's that easy 😊" mentality, which isn't a bad message but usually comes from people with absurd privileges or luck, which is Ross' case. Being unsucessful for 13 years is not something most people can afford. This is useless to an actual indie artist trying to make a living.

Ross actually thinks his cartoon was picked because it's anti-holywood and super amazingly original and he worked hard for 13 years. And not because Ross built 13 years of influencer network his show is the fucking "big bang theory of indie shows", pure LCD nerd reference slop and marketable plushie designs.

Another thing ross did was a quick and mostly useless Q&A where ross dodges most of the question. But a few might be worth remembering.

>Are scratch and kit related?
>This pertains to future episodes so no comment

(Scratch is dead so i don't know why you can't answer this. Vivziepop would never!)

>Will there be a speed runner?
>There won't be a speed... runner.

(It sounds like he's playing semantics and there will be a speed runner that doesn't run)

>Will there be a kit and kaboodle origin story?
>Will we see more of Scratch?
>no comment (But Ross, you already said scratch "pertains to future episodes"...)
>What is the name of Kit and Kaboodle planet?
>It's "Kit and Kaboodle"
>Will we get more crabgirl?
>Yes crab girl is not an one-episode character. She is part of this story. We got plans for her.

🙃

>Did flappers kiss a boy dolphin?
>Will flappers kiss a girl dolphin?
>Will there be yaoi
>I will see what i can do.

>Will there be yuri
>No comment

The yaoi reply sounded like a joke so why would he dodge the yuri one :stress:

It perplexes me that Kit isn’t a robot cat since she’s based off Megaman and her backstory is based off Megaman Legends apparently. All the character designs don’t go far enough and come off as generic as fuck for a videogame parody cartoon.

Hell I touched her design up to look like a robot so you‘d get the feeling that she’s a parody of megaman.

This pilot is so half assed that if it gets a full run, it’s gonna crash EVEN HARDER than TADC…..
Waow an actual artist

There's just so many questions and so many things that don't make sense from the outset. I said it before and I'll say it again, Wreck-It Ralph had a much more sensible version of this concept.
So like actually how does this shit work? They're video games right? So are all video games connected somehow? Why are they planets floating in a galaxy? At least in Wreck-It Ralph the separate worlds were them jumping to different arcade cabinets. So is every video game ever made added to this universe or something? Is that how it works? A new game creates a new planet?
Are they made by humans or is this some autistic universe where life is just like video games for some reason and there's like a video game God? ect.
Also why do the games get destroyed when the game is completed? Again can't you technically replay any game infinitely? (Except live service games that got shut down I guess. :story:)
And the planets somehow being alive and knowing when people acknowledge they're in a game is kind of goofy too.

My biggest problem is so much of the logic makes little to no sense or at least not enough for me to suspend my disbelief.
I feel like a less retarded idea would be instead of everything being destroyed when a game is completed, everything and everyone resets, it all loops for eternity, everyone forgets what happened, ect. So they're stuck in this eternal loop of stagnation because they don't know completing the game starts the cycle over again. But then we couldn't have Kit's autistic PTSD I guess.
But the story being about trying to help them break the loop would make more sense within the logic of video games in my opinion.

Oh no, he's reaching Vivziepop levels of spitting out random lore bits outside of the series.
Goose was already doing something similar on Twitter and Tumblr from what I remember. People would ask him questions and he'd answer them.
Honestly in general creators interacting with their viewers outside of designated QnAs has been a disaster for the industry.

What I think is going on is their universe basically like our universe, but each planet operates in its own set of rules set by what video games it's based on.

I've been discussing the implications of quite literally residing in a video game with other people (granted it was on /co/ but shhhhh), I was asking if people in this series were ever bothered by that notion, but from what I can gather, it seems that very alien concept is simply normalized in this universe and something everyone apparently just readily accepts as reality, which I thought was a sorely missed source of angst if they really want to lean on the drama.

Like, wouldn't it be much more effective for the central drama to be revolving around the fact that everything and everyone they know is just a video game? a creative set of mechanics and game design decisions? Kit's angst and trauma over losing everything she knew doesn't really work at all when what we saw of her world was extremely short and therefore, had no audience connection (or alternatively, make it a more subdued part of her personality before unleashing that in a later episode), seriously, the decision to mostly skip Kit's time in her home world and relegate it as part of the prologue is one of the more questionable writing decisions I have seen, I'm sure we are getting more screentime for her backstory once the later episodes drop but really?

It's putting the cart before the horse, lesson to me and other writers in here, anyone can comprehend the concept of "losing family", but if you want the audience to truly connect with your character on an emotional level, remember to first show what had led up to this point (or at least do it in with the sufficient screentime needed), and THEN have their full emotional outburst later on, imagine if Kit's outburst happened in the season finale, after a whole season of trying to repress her feelings and now seeing her whole backstory, finally breaking down after seeing too many worlds like hers destroyed or if Syntax looks like they're on the very edge of winning.
My biggest problem is so much of the logic makes little to no sense or at least not enough for me to suspend my disbelief.

That's actually a really interesting alternative that I somehow haven't thought of, it's another form of making the characters realize they are just in a video game, forever destined to perform their respective roles, though I don't know how you would go from that, is that the new purpose of Farcade?, a group of "freedom fighters" whose purpose is to break this cycle somehow?, and Syntax are now the ultimate masters of the universe, making sure every planet (game) loops indefinitely?, and what happens once every game no longer loops?, would it be the central moral dilemma of the series?, continue the eternal stagnation?, or let time take its course naturally on every planet, inviting chaos and other unforeseen consequences?

I came here to basically post this.

I watched the whole director's commentary, and it's essentially just Ross explaining in autistic detail all of the references he put in and the hypothetical game mechanics the flipper game would have if it were actually real. Honestly? It's a noble thought to try and have that level of attention to detail... but unfortunately, that came at the expense of the main plot and characters so it just falls completely flat and unnoticed.

Also yeah, his little soapbox at the end was annoying as fuck. He basically just sucks himself and Glitch off for being the bestest most independent studio ever that is going to kill Walt Disney and Hollywood.

Unfortunately thats not gooner bait enough so Ross would've had to actually write a decent show in order to get greenlit (Great redesign though, I could lowkey see this as one of Megaman's helpers all Beak or Rush).

Maybe.
I know some games do start to bug out if left on for too long, could be maybe they want to keep things as they are and prevent the "End of the world" so to speak. So by completing the game and restarting the cycle it staves off the ravages of time? Maybe the games eventually start glitching up and breaking down over time if the cycle is not repeated?
Could be the question of "Is it really life to continue in this endless loop for eternity, forgetting everything every time? Even if everything will eventually end?" but that'd actually force our characters to face a harsh reality so instead the villain is discount Freiza who wants to destroy planets and absorb their power to become a god or some bullshit.

Okay see, I actually like this design. It's charming. I'm sure there'd probably still be some freaks who want to fuck it because face it, there's always that one freak who will fuck anything, but at least this design is nice and actually fits the motif of "Discount Megaman" and I guess a tiny dash of Ratchet and Clank given, Kaboodle.

To be fair, at this point what we are talking about has strayed away from critique and just talking about alternate stories (fanfiction), valid criticism in my opinion is the show could have done more with the narrative they have presented/the show should have reorganized the narrative to make the story they are trying to portray to be more effective.

We can't really say the show sucks just because it didn't follow this specific plotline, at the end of the day, this is a cartoon first and foremost, and fun is always their first order of business.

I remember when people had to actually put effort into making a cartoon gooner art.

There’s a reason why Jenny/XJ9 from My Life as a Teenage Robot is hailed as a god on 4chan’s /co/ board.

Honestly Gamerverse feels like it’s made for /co/ to jerk off and lore goon to.

Kinda wish she was a helper bot that had a master like Megaman. Would’ve been nice to get a character based off Rush and have a utility main character.

But no, make the baseball bot her “Rush” And that bot makes zero sense design wise….Is baseball a part of Kit’s world?

Thought the Jchlat bot was from a separate sports game….

not gonna lie, watching this show right as I was entering adolescence massively contributed to my taste for robot girls later in life.

Something that pisses me off and what others have said is that one of this show's biggest selling points is that "Ross pitched this for 13 YEARS(!), and NO ONE would give him the greenlight, it was only US, THE WHOLESOME CHUNGUS GLITCH PRODUCTIONS, that would make his creative dreams come TRUE!!!" When based off that cringe Q&A it seems like he hardly had anything planned or thoughout beforehand and instead Glitch just came up to him and asked "hey you have any shows or ideas you'd like to pitch to us?" And he drudged up Gameoverse as a repurposed idea.

This shit does NOT scream like he was trying to get his show off the ground for years. To give a more succulent example of "pitching a show to execs and getting turned down at every opportunity until I finally had my break", Phineas and Ferb was initally concieved near the beginning of the 90s, and it was only up until 2005/06 did Dan and Jeff get it greenlit to Disney after failing to pitch it to other networks for them to make their first episode and season, and the rest is history.
That there is dedicating your time to pitching your ideas to something you believe is worth sharing to a wider audience, Gameoverse feels like Ross had a few scant ideas for what it should've been but ultimately didn't expand further beyond redesigned characters.

You have no idea how true this is. If I took a shot for every time he said "I made this shot up later" or that he randomly thought of something like a line, I'd be dead on the floor.

The more I've been reading the thread's logic, the more I'm beginning to agree that Ross only recently necro'd Gameroverse and threw his weight around towards Glitch. Like its a VERY obvious jump on as theres already a built-in audience of Game Grumps people, videogame people, and gooner bait with a lot of original designs. Especially when you factor in that Glitch is losing its biggest cash cow, that being TADC.

Phineas and Ferb is also a fantastic example because the pitch wasn't static. The main idea of "Two Brothers' Wacky Summer Vacation" always remained the same, but all of the designs, artstyle, and cast went under several revisions leading up to the final show we got.
