General Wrestling Discussion

so my hobby of hassling Indian call scammers today got me in contact with "roman" and I got him to say romamreings

That must have been a slim window, or I was stuck on a school bus when they were showing Stampede. I just watched on Saturdays, TSN would likely have been weeks to months behind anyway.

Pro Wrestling Plus was awesome.

I also loved when they brought NWA onto TSN and showed every match from the Tokyo Dome Starrcade over a few episodes. The Steiner's match was insane shit to see back then.

I remember TSN airing Stampede wrestling around 4PM-5:30PM ish in the Eastern time zone so if you were in Mountain it would have likely been during school for you. They aired it from around 1987 to whenever they shut the doors.

I have no recollection of TSN ever showing NWA other than on Pro Wrestling Plus. They later showed WCW Nitro.

There was a period around 1990-91 where they had a 1-hour NWA World Championship Wrestling show on Wednesdays, which was why I got to see it, as Wednesdays were early dismissal days for most Calgary high schools.

I remember when they had Nitro on Tuesdays, and how they kept it at 2 hours when the show expanded to 3 hours, and how randomly they hacked up the show to fit the slot.

that vaguely reminds me of that Raw Rewind show that aired on USA at like, midnight or some shit

New Dark side of the Ring, Necro Butcher vs Samoa Joe, uploaded to the Vice YouTube Channel.

Good episode. Glad to see there's no real animosity there and it was just two guys putting on a good show.

I remember watching the match in three parts during the pre-Google Youtube era and was blown away. Had no idea who Necro was but because of TNA, I knew Joe and it just added to his mystique. They made me believe they hated one another and it made for a heck of a watch.

Only in pro wrestling can you have a Samoan mat technician raised from a tribal dance troupe fight a Appalachian, dope-smoking hillbilly who wrestles on broken glass barefoot. Its as close as you can get to IRL Street Fighter.

It's depressing. Like she's trying to intentionally ugly up her body with tattoos. They're not anything particularly artistic or meaningful, it's just ugly things like bats and scorpions and a harpy that look like she went into a shop and just pointed at something in the book. It's an insane thing to do to your body just for a bit, especially when her personality is completely at odds with the character she plays. You see her interviews and you can tell she's a preppy cheerleader type girl that's playing theater. Total poser.
A coastal cunt pretending to be bogan trash because her step daddy probably came home drunk one night and made a pass at her.
That woman has never drank questionable boong party liquor, never had a safety pin piercing, never got a tattoo with India ink.
Shit, she's probably never even used a stove top burner to light a God damn cigarette or been in a cat fight over a man. Like you said: total fucking poser.

I think a lot of it has to do with Anderson being the Bullet Clubs mouthpiece for years having bought him Smark Goodwill, and Gallows is his plus 1/drinking buddy.

I like the Good Brothers, but I readily admit their ceiling is "Goons for the Actual Heel". They're bag carriers and everyone knows it, but the guys they carry bags for can get them gigs.
Anderson could work back in NJPW, but by the time he came to the fed he was ready for his "retirement check" tour.

Anybody who wasn't a shitter could have had an incredible run with that gimmick. Instead it was wasted on Jake Hager. Dutch carried him hard.
No they couldn't. That gimmick was doomed to kill anyone with it because of conservative backlash and even if Vince went full retard with the gimmick, it would have killed Jack Swagger deader than Chris Harvard, Rob Conway, and Renee Dupree had their careers killed doing an anti war gimmick.

If anything they aborted the gimmick just in time to keep it from killing Swagger's career

It may be my mid-life crisis speaking, but I kinda want to go to The Gathering at least once, just to experience it.
My mates and I have always wanted to do these American gatherings/cons. It's like the African version of going on safari. "Yoh, check it out bru, it's a pod of landwhales." and "Wow, look at the degenerate with a foxtail up his ass. You don't see that at home."
Plenty of people just hate watch it in between watching classic matches from when it was still great. I'll watch the big four just to see how bad things have gotten but I can't stand watching the weekly shows.
I just rewatch Lucha Underground praying for the day I have enough money to buy it and restart it. Shit was peak.

WWE in South Africa used to just be one hour of Raw and Smackdown cut together but ETV would show the PPVs in full. Most confusing shit ever as you would miss the build for 95% of the matches and not have any idea who most of the wrestlers were.
