I watched the Gunther clips on Youtube.
I'm glad the crowd is going with it and not yelling out Triple H. I like Gunther tbqh, but I still feel like everyone treating Gunther this way would make more sense if he had just completely decimated Cena instead of the weak tap out but whatever.

Actually Gunther retiring Cena means nothing because it was a random as fuck match that had zero importance and Gunther himself is stuck in midcard limbo and no real connection to Cena to make it matter.
Hell, they might as well of let Johnny Gargano retire Cena since Gargano could actually lean into the hate people have towards him and let him humiliate Cena on the way out in a straight forward feud where he repeatedly humiliates and belittles Cena, from calling him an impotent faggot who married a whore who left him, accusing him of raping all those make a wish kids and fuck the corpses of the ones that died Jimmy Saville style, to pointing out that so many people are tired of his shit that him turning evil didn't mean anything since he's been evil for decades and that the only shocking thing is that Rock noped out after "corrupting" the already corrupt as fuck Cena because he remembered what a piece of shit Cena was and didn't want to be seen in public with him.
No one cares about Gunther beating Cena but Gargano could have used it way more.
Gargano is one half of a tag team that no one gives a shit about despite HHH trying to get them over for the best part of a decade.
That's his ceiling.

Well allow me to sperg out one more time about Cena's ending before it becomes maligned history:
If they had just had semblance of a STORY it would have worked. I can see it now, during Cena's heel run Cena should have been approached by Gunther, "John before you retire I would like to have a match with you, it would be an honor." Heel Cena would brush him off, "Well Gunther I respect your technical skills but there's a lot of men who would like to have a match with me before it's over. Men who have a little more star power than you." This diss would give Gunther a motive to hate John! He could have delivered promos about how Cena was a fraud and how he's going to win the tournament and make Cena submit. This could have been done in 5 Minutes and that's what infuriating to me it's not hard to write fun Wrestling Promos!
They have the money, they have the talent, but it's just a little too much work to give some soap opera segments. It's utterly bewildering. And what's worse are the WWE shills pretending it was still high art and satisfying to have John lose. "Oh when Cena smiled it showed he was content, He never gave up but he knew his body was done!" GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT BULLSHIT!
I don't think I'm some "genius" like Vince Russo, I just know it could have been a good story, it could have actually gotten Gunther seriously over because he'd be a compelling bad guy. There was no buildup for this match, it just happened and that's embarrassing because Hunter and his lackeys knew months ahead it would end with Cena vs Gunther.

I think they're setting him up for a Kevin Owens type spot where he's mostly in the upper midcard, but can believably beat anyone or challenge for the title at any time.
