You can tell they have little confidence in it already because it's called "God of War", even though the God of War in that realm was Thor and not Laufey. You could have squinted a bit and have Kratos pass down the title to Artreus and still keep the "God of War" title but this just reeks of laziness. You could even squint even further and even listen to "we need a female protagonist" and have Freya pick up the "God of War" mantle from the recently deceased Thor instead of going all the way to Laufey.

I really don't care about the title. The series is fundamentally a saga of Kratos, who was a really angry Spartan that becomes the God of War and fundamentally never stops being a deity focused on ripping and tearing everything that pisses him off, and spin-offs focusing on other characters in that saga are still part of the story of Kratos, God of War. My actual problem is definitely the wacky talking cube, which goes beyond playing loose with ancient myths in the name of invoking classic mythology movies and instead moves strait to turning the series into silly fantasy. The series honestly would have been better if it went with the original concept of Kratos wiping out all the pantheons of Europe and the Near East to pave a path for the rise of Christianity.
I still preferred the Empress Cirilla ending, so it just feels like a rug-pull to declare “none of that mattered, Ciri is now somehow a Real Witcher doing Witcher Stuff!” Would it kill them to at least use a new character if they really wanted a female Witcher, and make her reasonably attractive?
