In it he basically excuses every single bad thing about the industry, just brushing it away as "oh it's just the case" "that's just the way things are" "oh it just so happens that way". One particular thing which pricked at my ears was when he said "players want" or "players seem to" indicating that people want high fidelity 70 hour open world slop. This is just a straight up lie, people don't want that shit, they would take a well made SNES game with some qols of today. He also uses the words "market" and "audience" within the context of focus testing, game concepting and preproduction. This is complete fucking cancerous poison and I hate how these business people have invaded a supposed artistic space. Gamergate was basically the Nanking of the gaming space, where wallstreet Jews, faggots and women made gaming into a business ecosystem by raping players minds.

Was re-reading Nintendo Power in order and I noticed something how it went from the golden days to something closer to modern games journalism (it ended in 2012 but that's still close enough, they didn't get to the culture wars part). For most of the 1990s they had scores on gameplay, graphics, challenge, and so on and so forth. Then that changed in 2001 with just the staff giving reviews on a 0-5 "star" scale, then changed again with long-form reviews and one person giving a score on a 0-10 scale, which is more common but actually even worse in retrospect because it means one person can give a single arbitrary score with almost no accountability or reason. One of the staffers gave Shadow the Hedgehog an 8/10, for instance. He owned up to the mistake seven years later, but it's an example of how they can just give some ridiculously inflated number out of their asses, and I bet no one has walked back their scores for Gone Home or The Last of Us Part Two on a "this game wasn't good as I thought" basis (as opposed to "this person is guilty of wrongthink" basis).
Minor PL, I have a business degree and have attended some of the shitty marketing courses. One of the things which "journalism" and reviews are supposed to do is indicate product quality, not only for customer awareness but mostly for producer awareness. Thats why there's even a score system in all areas of life, cause it makes market research and product research easy, when you attach a number to them. And companies don't aim to produce something of quality necessarily, in a descriptive fashion, they aim to hit the number come what may. Customers used to be smart enough to read, to agree and disagree with what's written on the back of the cover. The score system was divised to make it easier for companies to do research and as an additional bonus, con customers into buying inferior products cause theyre gonna trust the number before they read the cover. I understand games journalism/criticism, like any other industry, started organically and it made sense to split the score, write extra on the graphics sound design and other things separately. But as always, the businesses invaded and as it became a business, this score thing became homogenized and completely worthless, from the marginally worthless it was before.
In this case, the subversion is excusing shitty products and even shittier people so that he gets the first scoop on leaks at the expense of the people he is supposed to be a consumer's advocate for.

He (and his friends who work there) basically treat their jobs as adult daycare centers - you can just do a mediocre job for years and years and still get a paycheck, even if your game never actually comes out. This is the perfect state for them and a terrible state if you're a person who likes video games to release and be good.

Super late and mega gay, but Legendary Drops is a textbook definition of a grifter, whether he realises that or not. He keeps complaining about "insane Twitter people" and game journalists, but as long as Baldur's Gate 3 has great gameplay on top of all the sodomy and unnatural hair colours, it's okay. He has probably complained about games releasing in an unfinished state here and there, but because the only selling point of Oblivion is BUGS, the remaster of that gets a pass.
