Most of this was dumb BUT I did like the Small Council scene near the end because it contained probably the most genuine characters in the show. I would have liked Arya to have been through more development in this series but sadly that didn't happen.

"Between Season 2, when Bronn didn't even know what a loan was, to the finale, he actually got his Masters in Finance from Braavos University. We just decided to make that more poignant by having it off-screen." - David Benioff

Also lol they never explained who the Dornish dude is.
wasnt that the dude who was married to the lannister daughter?

How the fuck did Edmure get there? Last we heard of him he was being taken to Casterly Rock, then wasn't mentioned when the Unsullied took the Rock last season. Bizarre decision to bring him back just to reinforce what a dumbass he is.
the rock isnt that far away. he also had to be there since the is the only adult lord left.
the whole 6 kingdoms are fucked, 2 lords are weakish boys, one is a bastard with no formal education, the lannisters dont have anybody left, and the reach has some a sellsword as lord and the most important houses are empty or just dont matter anymore(hightowers????).

also whats with the iron islands? they arent part of any of the now 6 kingdoms. they should be part of one or the new 7th kingdom. thats a problem for quite some time.

This is probably what was going through D&D's heads while writing the finale:

"So Drogon melts the Iron Throne ... So there's no throne to sit on anymore. For the new King, how about we pick the guy who brought his own chair?"

Some have waited closer to 25 years.
i haven't read the books but even from a skeletal view of the show it's obvious that martin, even if he isn't the greatest writer, isn't an idiot. he clearly understands political and historical forces, and understands how the large and small effect each other, and he understands grand narrative -- it's in the fucking name of the book series. i even believe that, as i stated earlier, the "end of history" was ultimately the goal of this series (as looking at all the large plot lines it seems to be the logical conclusion, the real "breaking of the wheel"), but the TV writers i severely doubt actually understood that, or they didn't care, or aggressively hated their task. i say that because you have all the ingredients for the leap from one historical age to another, but it's done in such an extraordinarily awkward and bad way that it comes across as a completely uncorrected mess of plotlines intersecting and ramming into the ground suddenly, haphazardly (case in point: arya v. night king as opposed to literally anyone else, not just jon, sam, etc). it's obvious that because jon is the true heir to the throne, that ultimately it would be up to him to usher in the new age by abdication, resignation, or something like that. it's obvious that dany must break the wheel, which ultimately translates to ending the political internal combustion machine that was the seven kingdoms -- seven spokes of a wheel, etc, so her destroying kings landing is ironically defensible (a result of her impulsiveness but necessary nonetheless for historical development). the throne being destroyed altogether is the ultimate symbol of erasure and the ushering in of something new. it's obvious that the night king and the dragons both have to be disposed of in order to break the wheel, i.e. to dispose of those "magical" historical artifacts. it's obvious that bran must play some important role, or be disposed of altogether, in the ending of the old era because he is quite literally the world's memory - a living relic of the past, and being the three-eyed raven which is also the sworn enemy of the night king, there's no real reason for him to be around, especially now that people have, you know, books and shit. and they make him the fucking king, whereby enshrining the exact embodiment of their own past as their ruler. the fact that i have to point this out is fucked beyond belief. not only did they break the wheel, they then stabbed themselves to death with the broken pieces. i could sperg on but who cares? point is, i have never written a goddamned thing and my life and it's obvious to me that D&D don't understand what the fuck they were even writing about. the complexities and nuance of this story were some of its hallmarks in season 1, and it's gotten to the point where even if you think about the plot, it's ruined, and if you point it out that it was an entire fucking decade that built up to this, well, fuck you too, because they all made their money, and nobody will do shit about it, i mean just turn your fucking brain off ecks dee

oh, and for good measure, here's the moral of the story:
the largest struggles that threaten humanity are absolutely nothing and extremely banal/unimportant compared to the tiny stupid political and familial squabbles we have, and at the end of the day everything can be solved by randomly coming up with a fix and haphazardly putting someone in charge. nobody has a memory, either.

Who the fuck cares about the Three Eyed Raven, why should anyone care, what purpose does he have.
But he's like, the memory of the kingdom and shit. Totally not some crazy old man who may or may not be making shit up to serve whatever purpose is politically convenient at the time.

It's not like he's a magical element to the world of Westeros that will be forgotten. Just like every other element of magic in this show (the White Walkers, the Lord of Light, the Dragons, etc.)

So the 7...er 6 Kingdoms just became the Holy Roman Empire?

I got a laugh too when Sansa said she wouldn't kneel and demanded independence, while Yara and whoever the Dornish Prince was just sat there and had no objection. They should've immediately also demanded freedom, hell Dorne could likely actually fight. They didn't send men to Cersei and didn't send men North, they probably have one of the strongest armies in Westeros right now.

At least this train wreck is over, now we just watch the flames and enjoy all the memes.
