It turned out to be the ultimate clown maneuver from FIA/FOM, they measured the distance between the sensors wrong . . .

McLaren are now chimping trying to appeal but you only have 96 hours to do so and they didn't. Not willing to risk the cost of the appeal, but happy to try and use the winnings of those that did.

Don't underestimate Ferrari. Ferrari was slow in Qualifying last year but then blasted everyone in race pace (in Le Mans of course)

I am kinda wondering how F1 will go from here on out. Now we have normal race tracks with long straights. I would wager that Ferrari will fall behind again because now we get the active Aero back and full powered engines. Heck Antonelli blasted the opposition with a dialed down engine so all things considfered Merc is hampered by the full engine regs

This is how all the teams with former F1 drivers qualified at Le Mans.

The Monaco pit laser distance was off by 77cm (30.3in). Thanks Obama Muhammed.

Le Mans youtube streams are doing this little trick where after a few minutes of gaining viewers they put a big white box in the middle of the stream then spam chat with stream links on some website. I don't know if it's worth paying $10 or whatever for HBO Max just to watch it.

I preemptively apologize for all the multi posting that's going to take place over the next 19 hours.

It's crazy how different the driving is at Le Mans than at Nurburgring. There's lots of contact and cars leaving the track that don't result in retirements. At the ring, putting a tire in the grass is a death sentence.

Robert Kubica under investigation for unsafe release.

#51 Ferrari slammed #9 LMP2, both cars drove away. Full track yellow because the green bollards were sitting on the track.

Americans should be rooting for Cadillac to take the overall win. An American team hasn't won Le Mans since 1969 and it's our 250th birthday. 4 hours in and Caddy is currently running 1st, 3rd, and 9th.

#51 given a drive through penalty for the above collision. Possible floor damage as well. This is good for Cadillac.

#12 Caddy under investigation for something about spending too much time in the pits during an emergency stop. It's been the fastest running Caddy of the day.

Kubica gets a 5 second penalty as a result of the previous investigation.

This former driver said "digesting a beef sandwich" in casual conversation in a funny accent.

It's about 8:15pm track time and headlights are starting to come on.

#20 BMW that is one of the favorites to win is slowly losing time to the Cadillacs. Driver is complaining of steering vibration.

I just realized that Gabe Newell's (Steam) oldest son, Gray, is driving the #23 Aston Martin Vantage LMGT3. I can't find a live timing board for the race that doesn't require me to make an account so I'm not sure where he's running. ---- He's running 4th in class.

The Leclerc incident would appear to be driver error. The Sky commentary team attempted to explain this and many other similar mishaps as a consequence of him driving at the limit. I don't know whether that is true, but let's say that is. If the outcome of that approach is a Ferrari routinely parting ways with a circuit and following in the tire treads of Romain Grosjean, into the distant sunset, then he needs to adjust his style.

When he entered the sport, he looked like a future world champion. He's got the ability, but his judgement is poor, to the extent that his only way of knowing when his reach has exceeded his grasp is by hitting something solid and potentially race-ending. I think that might be the core issue with Leclerc. I have never got any sense of him maturing, either as a driver or as a person.

The steering column is fucked on Kevin Magnussen's #15 BMW. He started the race on pole and has fallen to last in class due to car issues. They showed him pulling on his steering wheel in the garage and it deflected 3+ inches in both directions.

Caddy built a 30 second lead in the dark.

#15 BMW back on track. They're using it as a test car for tires and strategy in the hopes of helping their sister car that still has a chance to win.

#54 Ferrari in the gravel and his rear left is off. First safety car of the race deployed.

Just a cool picture of the end of the pit lane.
