His voice acting got a bit sloppy.Edit: Oh God what happened to Ilberd.
That was my reaction when they've murdered my boi Raubahn. The voice actor change is so jarring. They murdered Merlwyb.
Edit: Oh God what happened to Ilberd.
Yeah, traded Batou for that VA downgrade. His voice acting got a bit sloppy.
There's also another lore aspect unique to FFXIV that centers around "What other FF game is this from and how could it be relevant" and any additional lore that was in 1.0 but is now lost. While FFXIV's lore is relatively straight forward, especially compared to things like Star Wars and WoW with dozens of supplemental material, but some things beyond the MSQ are split across multiple side quests that are released sometimes years apart that it is easy to forget a lot of finer details especially as a more casual viewer. The War of the Magi for example has the following relevant questlines and events related to it.
The Void Ark questline, 4 job quests (RDM, BLM, WHM, and SCH), the four Amdapor related dungeons (which are all optional), and Wanderer's Palace (due to Scholar's connection). It is a good bit to keep straight especially for a more casual viewer who's doing all this stuff at random whims instead of as this content was released. I'm also pretty sure their are a few other things like Gelmorra I believe was relevant during that time period, and Ala Mhigo was founded entirely because of the aftermath of the War of the Magi which lead into Red Mage being tied to Ala Mhigo.
So while it is straight forward, it is also fragmented within the game itself as you don't really see the full picture of say the War of the Magi until at least 4 years into the game's life and that isn't even going into whatever the actual lorebooks have to add further context. Plus some flavor text in fates and actual side quests (not the blue + marks) can also add something to the overall whole of an area's history. Even fucking Hildebrand has lore in it, some of which is actually pretty relevant to the world at large even if it isn't tied to the MSQ like Ul'dah's old neighboring nation.
I wouldn't say it's entirely mandatory what with how the game brings up and usually quickly contextualizes most lore points to make it relevant to whatever's happening in that moment, but there is something incredibly rewarding about seeing something happen and realizing right away what piece of lore or worldbuilding the event is calling back towards. There's also another lore aspect unique to FFXIV that centers around "What other FF game is this from and how could it be relevant" and any additional lore that was in 1.0 but is now lost.
FFXIV is leaps and bounds better than WoW though with Lore because in FFXIV having an understanding of it is mandatory, where as in WoW it's 100% optional.

It's nice to see that the game doesn't "forget itself" over time, basically.
Yeah, as weird as that sounds, that's really par for the course for just about any FC that's centered around a woman, or a troon, or a living doormat.I got roped into this wierd FC by a friend who no longer plays and its too bizzare and autistic to not share
So, its this wierd FC on Crystal, where nobody plays, the static that was gonna tackle higher end shit never formed beacuse the guy who organized it just dissapeared (who happend to be that friend lol)
The owner is this wierd, gil obscessed starving possible troon who literally does nothing besides craft and bitch in chat about marketboard shit, i think he/she/xir is fucking french canadian, because of course xhey are lmao, the simps are pretty entertaning, they all rally behind badly typed "kindness" that feels fake as shit and forced kek, they often bitch everytime some random faggot randomly leaves and they get sad alongside the owner, and i think the simps geniunely buy the troon either ingame gilsink shit (despite the millions) and even more telling, mogstation shit like the 10 dollar or so outfits and emotes
i think im just gonna look for a random group and hope they have some contact outside the game and leave it at that while leeching the XP buffs, maybe hope something funny happens with this ticking autism bomb of an FC kek
Yeah I've seen this a few times as well. It's pretty amusing. The worst experience I've had with FCs so far is occasionally looking at search info of passing players and FCs for shits and giggles, and getting whiplash from a couple of descriptions (a standout few of them lived up to the "FFXIV has a lot of trannies" stereotype by just blatantly mentioning they were specifically troon safe spaces, at least that was funny).
One, my sympathies. The first character I made (and still have) is on Coeurl too and alphabet friendly crowds usually sour up or splinter quick, usually that's where "sry for not being good enoughOn Crystal because I didn't know how the datacenter cultures or anything was, joined Coeurl. Notice lots of FCs are "alphabet friendly." Get an invite to join a Guild. Leader's a furry, but whatever. Can deal as long as it isn't too over the top, and it's FF14. Go to the vent thread in the Discord because I like funny DF stories. First thing I see is a suicide bait.
Considering a transfer.
Probably do that, especially if I can get a free transfer, thanks for the advice. One, my sympathies. The first character I made (and still have) is on Coeurl too and alphabet friendly crowds usually sour up or splinter quick, usually that's where "sry for not being good enough" sadboy shit you can publicly see comes from. If you have nothing to really lose from a transfer, go for one of the quieter servers I mentioned on Primal, I'd say Aether but that place is completely bunked until they work out the servers. There's still some crazies here and on Aether, but Crystal's culture is god awful for finding good groups to do harder content, actual buds ingame and not logging on to a fight over drama going on in a city-state's Shout or your FC chat.
Fursona was his Discord profile pic. I should have connected the dots earlier, though. His character was a catboy with an animal last name, and before my unplanned hiatus I was in a FC with two furries who followed that pattern.Second, did he mention being a furry first and foremost, or was he a Hrothgar and you just connected the dots quick? Oddly specific question I know, but I think I've only met about three people (one of them being a friend of mine) playing Hrothgar that weren't/didn't mention being vocal gay furries.
Yeah if you aren't able to stomach Alphabet Soup troubles then Crystal is not the place for you, there are some good groups that don't take that shit terribly serious but its an extremely left leaning data-center.. when it's not horny as hell that is. I feel its gotten less one-note with more people filtering in from WoW but it's still going to be a jarring experience if you aren't used to those spaces. One, my sympathies. I really like Hrothgar but I swear to god if someone's maining one there's a 85% chance they're a super-furry who can and will flip the fuck out over small shit. I hope you keep at the game no matter what decision you make, it's a good one and is worth finding a nice group to spend time with.Probably do that, especially if I can get a free transfer, thanks for the advice.

Yeah, my 15 years or so as a theater kid did not prepare me for what the alphabet people unleashed. I don't know if that says more about me or them. The degenerate wannabe actors were apparently a prologue.Yeah if you aren't able to stomach Alphabet Soup troubles then Crystal is not the place for you, there are some good groups that don't take that shit terribly serious but its an extremely left leaning data-center.. when it's not horny as hell that is. Roes and Highlander Hyur are the real man's toon. But yeah, I'm not planning on leaving. Despite the usual examples of the community there are fine folks I met in game and it's the best MMO on the market right now. Actually, my old main is still around on Adamantoise, is that a decent server?I really like Hrothgar but I swear to god if someone's maining one there's a 85% chance they're a super-furry who can and will flip the fuck out over small shit. The DC does have some hilarious and actually good people, but the vast majority are the types to bog down any community they touch and cause all the good ones to leave or play single player. The worst was when they were both horny and starting things (if you have no idea what I mean, think Balmung or Mateus), it's why I racially profile Viera players as horny passive aggressive freaks until proven otherwise, and I like that race in almost everything else they appear in.Yeah if you aren't able to stomach Alphabet Soup troubles then Crystal is not the place for you, there are some good groups that don't take that shit terribly serious but its an extremely left leaning data-center.. when it's not horny as hell that is. Most of the other % are huge fans of FFX. Considering that their name in the First is literally Ronso, I'd be surprised if Yoshida didn't greenlight them with the intent of appealing to fans of FFX first, with the actual people (at least in the US data centers) crowding around them being a side effect he didn't consider or really care for.I really like Hrothgar but I swear to god if someone's maining one there's a 85% chance they're a super-furry who can and will flip the fuck out over small shit. Which is ironic given that I liked the viera in FFXII and that game is by far my least favorite of the series not counting 13 or 15.The DC does have some hilarious and actually good people, but the vast majority are the types to bog down any community they touch and cause all the good ones to leave or play single player. Viera have a very similar thing: A majority of players that picked the race at character creation/Fantasia saw a Playboy model and decided to be horndogs, plain and simple, and then I'd say about 15% of players saw Viera and instantly picked it because of FF Tactics or FFXII. If they ever made Nu Mou or Bangaa playable, you'd immediately be able to pinpoint the Ivalice fans in the room.
Idk. I think it's really server dependent too. I know things are more mixed now with server visits, but I've been on one of the smaller servers on Crystal for a few years now and my only real experience with the full-on insane leftist alphabet gang types are seeing FCs that advertise themselves as safe spaces lol. And ofc even the "Female Only" groups are inundated with trannies.Yeah if you aren't able to stomach Alphabet Soup troubles then Crystal is not the place for you, there are some good groups that don't take that shit terribly serious but its an extremely left leaning data-center.. when it's not horny as hell that is. XII is actually the one Ivalice game I haven't played yet (besides Vagrant Story, that's apparently in the setting canonically). Even without the experience I can tell the art and writing team took a lot more from FFXII than Tactics Advance, which makes sense given TA Viera are way cutesier and would likely resemble Miqo'te if that look was adapted into XIV's style. Come to think of it, Tactics Advance hasn't gotten much fanservice or allusions even with the Ivalice crossover raid, something I'd probably be salty about that if Shadowbringers didn't have Nu Mou.Which is ironic given that I liked the viera in FFXII and that game is by far my least favorite of the series not counting 13 or 15.
