I mean both nations want to expand their borders and influence, both operate under the belief concrete or no that they were once the underdogs and oppressed minority of the world, both have nations they border and want to take advantage of (Palestine and Israel -> Eorzea and Garlemald), both are also anti-deism where Jesus is not the chosen saint and all other religions are null and Garleans believe the gods are figments of destruction through delusion and temperance and they're the chosen 'saints' of Eithrys, and both of them believe they're the chosen ones and all other are cattle to be herded (the torah says this about the Goyim and Garlemald sees all other nations as 'savages'). Zionism is also the broad stroke of aggressive expansionism which was also the ideology of the Roman empire for a time.

Garlemald more resembles Rome anyway, you know given the fucking names of the characters, but the only thing the average FFXIV MSQ intellectual knows about Rome is the Roman colosseums. The first major Garlean antagonist is named fucking Gaius and almost no one picks up on the parallel and just focuses on muh nazis.

I mean fuck by ARR we were given Gaius' meme copypasta speech, which beyond the various issues around its presentation and how meme'd it is, the actual speech itself raises at least some relevant questions that challenge our actions up to this point and we never exactly give a proper rebuttal. Instead we're asked merely to heed Gaius' warning and bring prosperity to the realm in his stead as its "ruler", which we inadvertently do overtime thus honoring Gaius' primary objective anyway despite him being LITERALLY Hitler.

The WoL is effectively a symbol of inherited will of all the people they meet and that includes the antagonists, especially in a few specific cases in the latter half of the story up to this point.
