Currently at the point of no return in FF7 remake. The side quests feel more like a chore and considering all the traveling you have to do, it becomes a painful experience. A nitpick i have with the game is how Cloud gets all this visions and hallucinations and instead of saying "woah i just saw sephiroth and he told me...." or " did i just saw aerith get stabbed?" And share it withthe group instead he goes "its nothing" and keeps going. Now you could make the argument that he thinks is just Mako stuff, but there is one scene where he has a brain aneurysm and he cries in one eye which is a different experience from the past hallucinations and visions which would merit attention because your body did something involuntary, but cloud goes "its nothing" is almost as if they brought attention to said visions/hallucinations the plot would unravel faster.

Also fuck whoever put the idea of having to play shit again just to have access to the other 2 side quests that are locked if you picked a certain side quest to do.

ut the people who do give them a try end up coming out of it having a greater appreciation for the source material over the adaption and I've seen plenty of people like that, especially from Zoomers and even Alphas.
I've enjoyed seeing people go back and play the OGs after Remake since it gives them all those 'aha!' moments, like playing a game across the decades. I'll also say I don't mind a remake when it's doing something new and integrating the entire compilation like this as opposed to other ones we've gotten like SH2. I'm just glad for more content.

If it's any consolation, this stuff does get addressed more directly in Rebirth, tirlogy problems yadda yadda. But it's also kind of an issue the OG has if you think about it too deeply, they could avoid basically the whole game if they killed Cloud and dumped him in the bottom of the ocean, so I'm glad the trilogy touches on it. You're right though, at that point in the trilogy the cope is him thinking it's degradation and Remake not being long after Tifa found him a drooling, gibbering, semi-conscious mess at the train station.

Ever since we learned the name of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, fan speculation began running rampant about what the third and final entry of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy would be called. While, thematically, many considered "Reunion" to be a fitting choice, that was disqualified as it was the name of the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII remaster, which arrived in 2022. In early June, we finally learned that the name was Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Oddly enough, while on stage at Summer Game Fest 2026's live show, director Naoki Hamaguchi focused more on another word that begins with "re." "As I spoke about in my stage presentation, the central theme of this title is going to be 'Resolve,'" he tells Game Informer. "That could mean a lot of things, but one of them is the resolve of our party player-characters heading into the final battles. What kind of resolve do they have in them? What are they feeling? What are they thinking about? Things like that. We're going to really dive deep into that specific aspect of their emotions and what they're thinking. It's going to shape a little bit differently between the choices that the players take, so the overall game experience might change a little bit depending on those choices that the players might take, but the goal is for the characters to feel closer than ever for the players."

When I ask Hamaguchi directly if, given that response, "Resolve" was ever in consideration for the name of the third part, he is direct in his response. "The central theme being 'Resolve,' and it being a word that starts with R-E, that's just a coincidence," he says. "It wasn't really a candidate for our title. We landed with 'Revelation,' because that was the word that was the best match for what we wanted to depict in the third installment of our series. One thing I can share about the title 'Revelation,' though, is that we kept this under the veils for the longest time, and we wanted to be very careful about it. We have a very huge development team, but among those development team members, only five or six people knew about the title. Most of them found out about the title at the SGF stage presentation!"

I asked Hamaguchi about the name of the third entry during our 2023 Rapid-Fire interview with the director of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, he responded, "That is kept inside [creative director Tetsuya] Nomura-san's head," before he rejected various joke pitches I gave him, so the secrecy of the announcement checks out.

Given the themes of the third act of Final Fantasy VII, I'm curious if there is any inspiration for the final entry of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy from the final book of the Bible, The Book of Revelation. "Some people might make that connection with Christian [mythology], but from our point of view, it was more about revealing all these unanswered questions that the fans may have with Remake and Rebirth. I think a lot of fans and players were just really wondering, how this is going to go down, and how the trilogy is going to conclude. As a response to that, this is our message, to say that this is the end of everything, this is where everything gets revealed, and this is where you will find out all the answers."

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC in the first half of 2027, marking the first time the Remake trilogy is going multiplatform on day one. I genuinely think the best part of the new series is going over it as an older fan of the original and seeing everything I "missed" come alive. People bitch and moan but I beat the original. The single best part of rebirth is seeing how everything connects together on the map. The world building is incredible.

Honestly a documentary just about they filled out the environment and scenery would be great for me. That obviously took a tremendous amount of work. Midgar really pales behind everything else.

What annoyed me was the NPC characters. (They're my favorite part of jrpgs ironically) The system of them saying something as you walk by is fine. Easy. But then it happens over and over every time you pass (Remake is especially bad about this).

Although this goes back starting with 13 I believe? It is nice that everyone is voiced.

But I'm most intrigued about Yutai.
I had to turn off the NPC subtitles. It's a cool feature but there's simply too much talking going on at once to focus. Very impressive though. There's shit ton of stuff you'll never hear lol

It's wild going back to Kalm different times and seeing them have actual storylines throughout the game. We don't get that attention to detail like we used to.

Not news, but some adjacent content creator lolcow fun.

The most common thing FF7 "fans" get wrong about the story is thinking the story revolves around the Nibelheim Flashback and Lifestream sequence so I'm glad to see it get BTFOd.

Especially because it feels very obviously like a way to sneak Tifa into the main heroine spot after two discs/games of being a passenger.

In fact the Lifestream sequence isn't even the end of Cloud's character development. Which is what it's all-but-singularly about.

Games are all about those hype and aura moments ever since the PS1. Since that's all some people remember, they warp their own perception around such sequences.

I really enjoyed how expansive Rebirth got. The cardgame minigame was an awesome extension and the ability to ignore side quests that felt 'eh' to me or dive deep into them was awesome.

The main story beats are not locked behind them and the added flair they provide is interesting to see. Gilgamesh being the clear standout and to me feels like there is a nod to Kingdom Hearts with the void holes appearing, comments about a multiverse, and the connection FF7 and KH have.

And also it's the midwit thing of Aerith's Death feeling "too obvious" and "too cliche" even though it's a better candidate.

Felt more like a Dissida reference to be honest but still cool.

I'm personally hoping for a lot more from Lucrecia than we got in Dirge, where half her scenes are her throwing a telenovela fit.
The way the mobile game handled her from what little I saw seemed to indicate they actually want to give her some depth as a character.

I kinda figured Advent Children was getting shoehorned in, Sephiroth mentioning The Reunion in the first 15 minutes of Remake kinda gave that away. Dirge of Cerberus being tied in is a bit of a curiosity though. Maybe there will be some inclusion of Vincent's time as a Turk and more detail around Vincent/Lucretia/Hojo.
I Really REALLY want to see cloud get the Fusion blades and just get in an epic knockdown fight with DeepGround.

It might actually be a good enough excuse to get Sephiroth for a temporary team up. (Gilgamesh has the fusion sword right?)

At least it’s posited as a bad outcome (I think).

After getting done with most achievements im now doing the game on Hard mode, which personally i feel the game is more engaging and actually makes you learn to counter and manage your mp. Cannot wait to rage when i get to the later bosses.
