One of the things I hate writing is multi-tiered explanations as to why a character does something. What I also hate is having to write what psychic/telepathic/ESP characters are doing because their powers are always so goddamn nebulous. Fire character? Sets fire to shit. Psychic type? Things happen because WACKY MIND HIJINKS!

And of course I ended up writing a character with two things. Think chunk is going to be a chore for me, but I hope it'll be entertaining for you fine folks out there.

Poor guy, Jesus....

...how long have you been setting this up, @_blank_ ? It's been over five years since THIS:

This one was kinda bonkers. I was originally a lot of exposition and stuff... but then I thought, as I usually do when it comes to many of life's tough decisions, "What would Phil Collins do?" And from there, everything came naturally.

Remember kids, everything is better with Phil Collins.

Also, guys, look back into this now. Take all of that into account.

This is why TRS is so deep; @_blank_ takes Chris' magical 'fix everything' powers and turns them into a singular, horrifying aspect. Magi-chan was basically a demi-god in Sonichu but in TRS he's the suffering loner, the bastard child with the power to do anything and the lack of initiative to do it.

How are you so good at this? Major props to you

I love overanalyzing so I'll delve deeper into the whole Magi-chan 'the indifferent god'. Now I'm not pretending I've got a secret hotline with @_blank_ and we share secrets about where he's going with TRS but I'll still take a whack at it.
The aside part with Bob mentioning the mirror and it affecting Chris plays into where Chris got his freaky-deeky powers; each Sonichu 'birthed' by his 'imagination' is essentially a portion of his own psyche. He goes even further by becoming one of his abominations, the world around him being forced to warp and twist to his machinations as the veil between reality and fantasy is taken behind the local soup hotel and disemboweled.
One of his 'children', Magi-chan, is basically gifted on the same level as his 'father', Bending time and space, reading minds, warping reality; a living, breathing dues ex machina. The power to do and fix anything.
And he fucks it up royally.
This last little portion of the story symbolizes it so well. Magi-chan could have stepped in at anytime to stop this mayhem but all he did was watch it unfold. Then Angelica pulls a full team rez and now you've got a swarm of abominations being reborn with their inhibitions put on standby with Chris just staring on, wide eyed and seemingly unphased by the slaughter.
So Magi-chan nuts up and pulls a hard reset on everyone.
Now any techhead will tell you that a hard reset isn't good for your computer. It's more of a last resort, really, but our favorite purple pussy goes full retard without a moments hesitation, undoing all the bad deeds and pretending they never happened. How many times has Magi pulled a hard reset out of his ass?

As I mention in the prior each of the Sonichu's manifest as a portion of Chris' psyche; Magi-chan is the voice of reason screaming at the top of its lungs for some semblance of sanity.

I honestly have plotted way, way, WAY too much into this. I would honestly wager most of the time taken working on TRS is setting up possible plotlines and making sure they don't crash into one another all the while still running parallel to the original plot beats in OG Sonichu.

Some people play DM in D&D. I instead plot fucking Sonichu bullshit.

I really appreciate this, if only it tickles my ego a little. You hit some good points and some I hadn't thought of before. It is true that I do try and write each of the main 'Chus as a representation of part of Chris's personality, but at the same time, I also try to make them their own creatures, their own animals, with their own backgrounds and, just for shits and giggles (and for a handy writing device to avoid characters becoming too similar), also representative of Dante's sins.

Sonichu, for example, grew up in the wilds, so he's got more of a "survival of the fittest" mentality - he also bears Chris' more impulsive nature. Sonichu is Pride.

Rosechu was raised up fighting. That is what she understands- that is what feels normal to her, so being stuck as the happy homemaker role drives her up the wall. She is representative of Chris' angst and rage (albeit hers is much more frightening). Rosechu is Wrath.

With Magi, Magi is a giant bag of conflicted points. He believes in loyalty and structure, but at the same time kind of represents Chris' naivete and inability to really connect with anyone. As we've seen and will see he continues to try to withhold some kind of structure and order but his naivete erodes into apathy and the unquiet realization that he's pretty much stuck in this role and he has no one to blame but himself. Magi-chan is his own worst enemy. Magi-Chan is Sloth.

But that's enough critical thunking for one night...

That Sonichu reminds me of LumpyTouch's Gorefield in all the best ways.

Hah... Wasn't even thinking about that, but I can see the similarity now. TBH, the main inspiration for me was Uriah Heep's Abominog album cover, of which I was actually listening to whist drawing that panel.

But anyway, one final page for the week, wanted to throw in some levity in. As usual, taking Sunday off to allow myself to be useless, pages starting up on Monday.

Six years ago (give or take a day or two), it started as a bet: Could someone actually make Sonichu into a coherent storyline. The answer: No. But not for lack of trying.

Six years ago, I hadn't drawn the little yellow bastard once. What you see above is my very first attempt at drawing the jaundiced rodent with an attitude. I had the vaguest idea of a plotline to go on.

Direct Link
And here's a concept piece, mostly for my own benefit, trying to figure out what each character;s personality would be from just a glance. Needless to say, the majority has changed... mostly for the better. Maybe. I dunno.

300-400 pages later (I honestly stopped counting years ago), things have changed quite a bit. I've gone from drawing on Xerox paper and Crayola markers to designing entire pages using Clip Studio Pro and using a Huion graphic tablet. All because of this yellow bastard.

So, much like The Real Sonichu, there is no real point to this rambling post other to say thanks to you wonderful maniacs for giving me a reason to give a damn about something, especially in the worst of times. Here's to another however many years it takes to finish this.

Also a special thanks to Chris, you self-centered, psychotic prick, for all the yucks and backwards inspiration. I'd say never change, but I doubt that'd ever be an issue.
-----------------

Anyway, Monday is looking to be a massive dumpster fire of a day for me. Probably not going to get any new pages done unfortunately until Tuesday. See ya then and remember to keep your stick on the ice.

And a Murry Burthmis to The Real Sonichu too! Without this fun jaunt into the ill-fated exploits of everyone's favourite electric hedgehogs, Housebound wouldn't be a thing.

Shine on, @_blank_, you crazy bastard! I hope life treats both you and your comic kinder this year!

_Blank_ and Chris should have a fight to the death. Winner becomes the true and honest creator of Sonichu.

WHOA FUCKING JUMPSCAREFRAME!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how you quickly you can turn a 180degrees in a drawn form. From kind of introspective humorous but sad pathos into JEZUS FUCKING CHRIST IT'S THE TOOTH MONSTER FROM SATAN'S ANUS gripping your shoulder, staring into your eyes with blazing yellow deadlights and making what I strangely hope is a Revolutionary Girl Utena reference from the 2nd arc (deeper...go deeper.) but even if not still disturbing as fuck, and you cannot wait to see what's next.

I almost want you to abandon TRS for Sin Sonichu full time, @_blank_ .

But uh....HOW many hands does Sonichu have?? it kinda looks like 4 are in play here.

Probably like six or eight hands? Magi-chan's dreams are quickly becoming nightmares and that Sonichu is just a manifestation of his fears... think "Jacob's Ladder."

Anyway, apologies about this one being delivered late. Work is always a real peach at the end of the month and yesterday (Tuesday) was no exception. Had to rush this one a bit, but that tends to be more often than not it seems...

Bah enough whining. Here's Page 69. Nice.

I’ll be interested to see how Silvana comes out after all this mindfuckery.

Jacob's Ladder is by far one of my all time favourite headfuck movies. Shortly after it came out I worked in a video store, and when we got our 2 copies of it in stock I made sure to recommend it to everyone who asked for a non-fluff , make you think 'head movie'. I almost always got thanks and kudos the next day. I think it was sold out more often then our 10-20 space racks of Total Recall (also a great movie), Flatliners, and whatever the hell else was super popular back then. The fact that you reference it makes me even more optimistic about how this storyline is going to conclude. 👍 👍 👍 .

Okay now I can totally call this for what it is; Magi-chan is so inept at brain wipes that he leaves behind psychic residue, the mental equivalent of getting someone elses shit on your hand.
