Put a designer sock in it, Barbie. This thread is for the REAL fashionistas.
Doll Divine. Rinmaru Games. DressUp Games. Azalea’s Dolls.
Long ago, the four websites lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the security breaches attacked. Only Adobe Flash, master of all four websites, could stop it. But when the world needed it most, it disappeared.
For those of you who had friends growing up, online dress up games are exactly what it says on the tin. Instead of buying expensive accessories for your real doll (and having to keep it safe from your shit-goblin siblings), you could click through a variety of not just clothing options but facial expressions, hair/eye/skin color, and even backgrounds. Better yet, you could do it all while sitting in the computer chair you’ve been wordlessly melding into over the weekend, rather than having any kind of tactile interaction with the world around you! My first exposure to dress-up games was on the same platform as my first exposure to sonic inflation fart fetish diaper piss porn: deviantART.
The “super mega naruto dress up game” was my shit and I think I lost a good ten to twenty hours of my life to it, no regrets. I was particularly obsessed with princess and fairy dress-up games, and before you ask, no I did not start this thread because I had a random flashback of this one website that had dozens of really cool ones and I’m hoping against hope that one of you remembers the name of it so I can finally sleep again. The text was in Korean and the gameplay was drag-and-drop. Not that it matters. Just going to leave these PNGs here in case anyone recognizes it.
Not a big deal or anything. But if anybody does happen to remember the name I will be in your debt forever and always. Moving on.
There were loads of websites that hosted similar flash games, but the aforementioned above are commonly regarded as the holy quartet. Here are some of the classics:
The constant security issues with Adobe Flash caused it to shut down for good, unfortunately taking with it several popular flashgame websites, including our very own Rinmaru Games. On the bright side, better supported websites like Doll Divine are back up and running, mobile accessibility included, and the initial apocalypse brought more recognition to more mobile-friendly sites like Picrew (which was then inundated with large swathes of western BLM cringe).
There are also popular dress up video games like Love Nikki or Style Savvy, which you can find more on in the girly video games thread.
As a personal anecdote, I used to love coming up with all these elaborate stories while playing these dress-up flash games and changing the clothes/expressions to match the story beats. It was actually one of the things that helped me realize I wanted to be an author, and ngl, I still frequently use Picrew to help design my characters. So, what dress-up flash games are the most nostalgic for you? Do you still play today? What was that one website called? What kind of memories do you associate with dress-up games? Got any cool designs to share? Can someone PLEASE find out the name of that fucking website before I have an aneurysm? Discuss below.
