More details on the two updates
Two whole years just to fix the game. Crazy. Even if the expansion is good and the fixes make the game worthwhile, it’ll be tough going back to something I was done playing two years back. But who knows maybe I’ll try it.

I managed to get 120 hours out beating the base game over 3 months, so will give it a try. Glad they are finally trying to do something serious about the performance, because seems 7 out of 10 people whom hated DD2 was because of that... Rather than it simply not being as great as DD1 Dark Arisen. My gaming rig is old, like 2018, but bought a 5800X3D in 2022 so it was okay for me, 50fps in city, however spouse's RTX 3070 gaming laptop just ran like fucking shit despite being a newer machine otherwise.

The base game ran fine on my computer so performance issues were never a problem for me. IMO the game simply sucked for me. I even filled out that survey Capcom sent around back after the game first launched. They gotta do something crazy in the DLC to get me back on board.
its not, but you should kill yourself anyways for the fun of it
$30 is the equivalent to like... six good indie games so I just might fucking do it.

Man that August update can't come fast enough. Decided to make a new Arisen and goddamn I forgot how awful the stagger in DD2 is. Fucking everything makes you flinch and by the time you recover you're getting hit again and probably knocked down. Even as a fighter it's not much better. It's good they're going after the knock back issue so hard from what I can see in the notes. It's also nice they're giving us the 6 skills back. Some of the classic spells are back too.

Saw something where the devs did some twitch stream talking about the expansion? Claimed they've been working on it this whole time and just never bothered saying anything. I can buy that to an extent, but the cynic in me says a lot of it is shit that was meant to be in at launch but had to be cut for time.
It also seems that no one involved with DD1/DA is involved with this. Considering Dark Arisen was largely just reskins of basegame mobs with a few OCs, some new armor/weapons/skills, I'm not upset if this is true. I think vanilla DD2 shows a very clear disconnect between what actually made the first game work and what it's creators thought made it work.
I'll always go back to Itsuno saying they simplified the armor system to give players more options, because in DDDA everyone just ended up using the same endgame armors. He removed options and simplified the whole system... to give players more options. That's fucking retarded. The solution was to just make dragon forging provide a much larger boost to lower tier equipment so it was on-par with the higher tier stuff, but not as good or better. That way it's still viable. That's all that needed to be done and it already was with Gold Rarity upgrades in BBI.

Once again, if they fix the armor system I'll call this the best expansion/update of all time.

Yeah, my biggest beef was the completely anemic number of powers you could equip, there was flatly zero excuse to go from the six power layout of DD1 to fucking four. It made fights feel much more clunky to me when I couldn't afford to equip a situational sort of power because doing so meant I'd have to toss one of the more generally-useful ones. Finally moving that back is making me much more interested in kicking off another playthrough.

From what I remember when I played DD2 at launch was that it just felt so unfinished. Really gave me WIP from game mechanics to content.

The game feels like it had so much less weapons and armors to get in it and weapons really didn't have unique abilities or insane stats to really try new builds. Just go for the sword that has more attack. the open world exploration felt dead too, due to there not really being unique items there is very few dungeons and off beat places to go from the main quest. I also felt the games leveling system was screwy too, cause when I got to the desert area of the game I kind of maxed out my classes and I didn't even do any grinding and tried new powers or abilities cause there was very few. Don't get me started either on the crappy segments where they wanted you to do stealth in that rich people side of the main city.

DD2 just overall felt like a letdown and not a step up from the first game, the first game of course had its faults but the second shouldn't have any excuse cause it had so much time to develop into something proper and learn from the mistakes of the first game. I just hope the expansion has meat on its bones and isn't just a light dlc on content and changes.

I recently finished DD1 one again. I still love the game too pieces even with its flaws, but that is also kinda its charm as well. I still think the movment and combat is still better in DD1 beacuse it felt like i was playing an anime, while DD2 tried so hard to be realistic with its movement, that made it slower and clunkier (goblins wont stun lock you too death in DD1) Decided to level up as a Magic Archer, even with its awful stat growth. however, i installed a mode that made the MA growth a bit better.

It made the run so much fun since i spent most of it as a magic archer. Once i reach BBI, i killed most of my encounters without much issue. Only the bosses gave me trouble because all of them have high magic resistance.
