I'm sure RTD got a shock when having to deal with Disney and his connections didn't get him another season/contract renewal just because he wanted it. That whole group (and most of the BBC) are completely entitled and out of touch.

Regarding the Wilderness Years 2.0, we will probably get a cycling of old Doctors in "lost tales" and maybe even get some proper comic book graphic novel adaptations of the classic who stories of old.

1. Piper only filmed the regeneration cameo as a favor to RTD with no intention of coming back, as RTD was desperate as hell for bait to get the show renewed.

2. RTD lied to the BBC's face about BP being under contract to do the Christmas special and finally got caught when a BBC executive talked to her and found out she wasn't coming back.

3. That said, there was SOME material written by RTD for the Christmas special with Tennett having seen them when RTD was trying to get him to come back as 14. But Tennett became disinterested when RTD kept giving him the runaround on Piper, which led to him asking a friend at the BBC to ask Piper which led to RTD getting caught lying.

4. This is what ultimately got RTD fired from Doctor Who, as it revealed RTD's house of lies as he had been bullshitting since the finale that "he had a plan" to fix shit for the next show runner.

IIRC Piper saved all of the money she made during her brief run as a third string Brittany Spears knock off and her two seasons on the show, so she's well off enough that she turned down RTD and the BBC offering her a spin off show. And to dictate to Moffatt that she would only appear in the 50th anniversary special as a new character (the super weapon the *Moment").
