https://youtube.com/watch?v=y-9yBmCktlMDisney doctor who somehow crashed faster and harder than Disney Star Wars and the MCU. Actually almost impressive.
"If things are polarising, I think we're in a healthy position."
That's the same line of thought Rian Johnson had making The Last Jedi, and as we all know that film was an instant classic that everyone loved. I really hope we get more Wilderness Years soon. To paraphrase the Simpsons; it's already dead.

I am not a fan of Doctor Who but I always found its fan base interesting to observe. I’d argue that part of the problem is that they had so many die hard fans that were insane tumblrinas. I suspect a lot of the nonsense that’s pushed is written by those who were on tumblr and live journal years back. Essentially a small but vocal part of a fan base if given an inch can take a franchise in an unpopular direction 100 miles. Not that hiring fans is bad per se but they will have their favorite factions, characters, and pet theories which they’ll prioritize over everything else. They’re just as petty, just as short sighted, and just as quick to blaming phobes.

Just found out about the new Davros.

There are 3 whole abandoned Doctor Who threads, I am choosing this one to voice my complain at absolute shit that is its continuity and canon.
When I read wiki and get a migraine from trying to figure the logistics, it surely got too far.
Even Marvel is less bad!
How do people even enjoy it, by ignoring everything?

Matt Smith was the start of “Doctor Who by people who never watched Doctor Who.” It’s fine if you want more DW after the Tennant run ends but it really was indicative of the performative in-jokes media was shifting towards. For an unadulterated experience, drop the series before Alex Kingston shows up (how a very Scottish woman and a very English man have the Jewiest looking woman as a daughter ever I will never know).

Its really funny that when that video came out we had no idea how much more catastrophically inhumanely impossibly worse it was going to get.
There's nothing worse than waking up one day and realizing how good things you originaly criticized were in comparison of what we're getting now.

There's no rock bottom, only the everdescending abyss.

modern era (2005-2017)
I'd argue the modern era really ended after Matt Smith. I watched maybe the first two episodes of Capaldi and instantly hated it, never to watch it ever again.

I did binge watch it back in 2013 as a kid and I wonder if I'd still like it if I came back to it after all these years. I feel like my ideological priors would kick in and I'd hate the preachy nonsense like Tenet in S2 or 3 when he's facing off The Master.

Cool edit:

I don't care about anything about Doctor Who besides Sutekh, my beloved stupid ass dog.

If you want to watch good Doctor Who, turn yourself into a kid and time travel back to the early 1980s, when your local PBS station was showing serials from the Tom Baker era. Tune in on a Saturday night to a superlong episode made from several serials edited together. Do it during summer when the windows are open and you can hear crickets outside. Make sure to watch it on a black and white vacuum tube TV playing at half volume so your parents don't wake up and force you to go back to bed. Put a blanket over your head (to shield your eyes during the scary bits) and watch while eating a bowl of your favorite cereal as quietly as you can. That is the best way to watch Doctor Who.
