I guess that, with the 60th anniversary and current state of the series, it's time to create a thread fully dedicated to the sad state of this trainwreck.
Formerly one of the most beloved tv series from british television; split by fans between
classic era (1963-1989),
modern era (2005-2017)
and dogshit (2018-present)
It was well known for (at most) the clever writing and low budget, yet the two reversed when the dogshit era and the first ever female incarnation of the doctor arrived, proving how Community was ahead of its time by making the whole 3 seasons one of the lowest points in tv history, featuring bad writing, corporate pandering, a unlikeable doctor, side characters devoid of personality, (poorly) reused ideas, a whole episode where the writers tries to mock a Donald Trump strawman and much more, all peaking with "the timeless children"; a episode featuring a series of reveals so incredibily stupid that most of the fandom abandoned ship with the promise to never come back, unless the whole thing wouldn't be retconned.
So, after all of this and 1 more season that nobody watched, what BBC has to offer for the 60th anniversary?
Well... Nothing good.
David Tennant was (temporarily) recasted as the doctor out of sheer desperation, and Russel T Davis coming back to reprise his role in writing and directing for the series, both gave a glint of hope for the fans, who were also ready to give a chance to what would've been the 1st ever black doctor, potrayed by Ncuti Gatwa; yet everything changed when Russel T Davis started to discuss about changing one of the most iconic villain because of pandering: Darvos, a classic villain known to be half Dalek ajd unable to walk, was said to have been altered for the new series because in teh current day, it's considered wrong to potray disabled people on wheelchair as nothing but holy figures.
A conversation between fans trying to convince Davis to change his mind and him started and, judging from this screenshot, it didn't end well.

Next came a re-release of the 50th special "Adventure in space in time", a movie released to tell the story of how the series was started, ending with the first doctor catching a glimpse of the latest one, in that case, Matt Smith, only this time with the final scene edited to replace him with the black one, something that also angered the very few fans left.
Finally we come to the 60th special releasing; which I'm not gonna describe, instead simply post These two pictures i stole from the social media platform formerly known as Twitter and let you decide for yourself.

You may be wondering what went wrong, and the answer is quite simple: Doctor who came to Disney+, and during a interview with Davis, he told how the studio passed him notes to better IMPROVE the writing.

I don't believe Disney is to blame for absolute everything, but it surely didn't helped.

Última edición:
This should just be called the Doctor Who Grieving thread, like the Star Wars Grieving thread. I remember watching some of the modern stuff when it was still fresh, but I tapped out after the 11th Doctor. My how far this show has fallen.

Doctor Who was never good. And I say that as someone who loved the show when I was little. The only valid reason to like this show is nostalgia, if you try and watch it with fresh eyes (even the "good" eras) it's nigh-on unwatchable.

The thing, it's bad for a differnt reason, it's like saying that both Batman & Robin and the marvels are equally terrible.
Yes, they are both bad movies, but the first one isn't gonna shield itself by calling people criticizing it -ists or -phobes.

Valid point. I'll take the fun kind of bad over the insufferable kind of bad any day

Bad media is often presented in a spectrum between
Boring bad (jack & jill, any unfunng comedy or italian vacation movie, suicide squad, the gotham knight and avengers games)
Batshit insane bad (batman & robin, the old super mario movie, yiik and the room)
Woke bad (pretty much anything shitted by current year disney after Donald Trump was elected and goodbye volcano high).
The first one fails by being either too boring or generic to the point of being forgettable, the second allows you to appreciate it ironically and laugh at it while keeping you entertained and the third one is just a lecture on how horrible you are for being a cis staight white male.
Doctor Who had either been a in between the first two with a couple good episodes/idea every now and then, at least before the chinballs era.

Doctor Who was always about finding good things in terrible things. Capaldi was a great Doctor with bad scripts, same with Colin Baker. If you got one or two good stories a season that's all you ever really could have hoped for. People act like the whole series was like Tom Baker at his peak, when even that was only like a season and a half.

That's how I feel about the new episode. The trans rep shit was too on the nose and felt more patronising than empowering, but the rest of the special was fun where it mattered. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but far and away better put-together and enjoyable than 99% of the previous showrunner's tenure.

No wonder I couldn't find the thread when I searched for it. Dr., not Doctor.
Yes, along with doing away with this redundant thread, Null's thread should be renamed to make it easier to recognize and find. I've rarely been exposed to the show's fandom, but I don't think I've ever seen it referred to as "Dr. Who". Seems like as much of a beginner mistake as calling the character "Doctor Who".

I just thought it was like any old other episode tbh. I tapped out when Fucking chibnall took over. I hated seeing the Doctor as a female (and I am one), after growing up in the 70's, I felt it was normal not to have a "Time Lady".
I tried not to let the pronoun scenes annoy me, heh it even looks that 14 forgot about it. and I loved the twist that Donna didn't die.
I'm trying to be optimistic about Ncuti Gatwa, so there's that

Multiple times it was mentioned that the doctor could regenerate as a female, it's not the bad part, it's the writing around it,
To quote Community: nobody likes it, not because she was a woman, but because of the writing".

Oh no. People hated it because the dr was a women. The cope was ‘well, it will be ok I guess if the writing is good’ and then the writing wasn’t good. To the point people started feeling sorry for the actors.

Listen, you heckin' chuds, it was super valid and awesome! Jessie Gender thought it was fantastic!
I don’t know how they can think saying the only way being trans is acceptable and makes sense is by alien magic that was literally fate and destiny screwing with things so reality wasn’t genocided and this was a noted unexpected side effect is a good thing. Dr Who continuety straight up says it is unnatural and makes no sense.

an actual trans person would be turned into their correct gender in 5 seconds with The Dr’s help.
