🎨 Artcow DisneyFan01 / Andrea Avrett - Womanchild whose Husbando is the Treasure Planet version of John Silver; Rewriting Kingdom Hearts with her Self-Insert for Over a Decade

I know, I shouldn't harp on it because it's such a small scene, but considering the setting is so important to this fic, I thought it was really confusing. Esp. since according to Andrea, one of the next worlds we'll be seeing is Pocahontas. And in Pocahontas the setting and historical context is important, so I still wonder how she's gonna pull that out.

One of the advantages Treasure Planet had in the setting is that it all seemed to take place in this Alternative Universe where a form of steampunk took over and humans contacted with aliens, but it wasn't like "Earth in the future", it was its own unique thing. Sorta like Star Wars, in a way, the more I think of it.

However Pocahontas is done it's not going to be good, but I'd assume that it's either going to be devoid of the historical context, or have Marina smug/confused in regards to the colonists.

I think one of the main problems for this fic (apart from the premise) is that the setting and active plot are basically 'Kingdom Hearts but it's Treasure Planet'. Despite being convoluted as hell, it's been established within. Kingdom Hearts that each world is a singular movie series, and that the worlds were part of a much bigger one sometime in the past, with the worlds moving at different time rates, accounting for the differences in era of human history and when that fails to explain things there's always a fallback of magic. As you've said Treasure Planet is located in a steampunk space-type world that's very unique and in having the different movies being literal planets, it starts becoming confusing whether or not there are fifty Space-Spain's as an example.
Despite Andrea's need to explain everything plot wise, she seems to be doing a distinct lack of it world wise and honestly at the 4th part it's probably a bit too late. Maybe it'd become clear upon re-reading to earlier chapters but that's just not going to happen.

I'll admit it's a first that I've seen a Spaniard character receive this treatment. When bad writers do it, it's always affected by Mexicans and other latinos.

(Then again, most writers seem to think Spain doesn't exist...)
Such shortcuts in writing is pretty typical when it comes to presenting characters meant to be from a foreign land, but still wanting them to be somewhat intelligible to the intended audience (in this case English). In movies/TV, this is often accomplished in giving that character an accent or an attempt to sound like they were from that specific place. Too often when it comes to the use of Spanish accents (via Hollywood) it's often too close to that of a Mexico/Latin America, perhaps out of convenience.

It's funny because it's always with latins/hispanics. You never see a french character or a german one using "frenchglish" or whatever the hell it's called a combination of the languages. I'm guessing it also is because the USA is more familiar with Mexicans than other foreigners?

Probably (Hispanics are quite a big demographic here). Not to say the same doesn't happen to any other foreign characters like what they do in cartoons.

As Andrea doesn't really produce much content I was thinking about maybe doing some digging to make a community watch thread on 'Assorted Disney Fan-artists and Fan-writers'.
Is this a good idea?

I mean, there's Dolphy, but I think she's grown up nowadays and is dedicated more to her work. There's the Jimminy Cricket girl who has her own thread here...Do you know of anyone in particular in mind to make the thread interesting, aside from Disneyfan?

EDIT: I wish Disneyfan went back into the Aladdin world just to make this song appear in the fic:

Última edición:
I didn't really have anyone particular in mind for the thread. I just thought that as most of the Disney artists that have threads don't really produce much content I could compile them into a community thread and also maybe find some new, lesser artists to laugh at.

“Alone with you for Christmas”

“All Christmas season while listening to many soft Christmas songs, I kept thinking of Marina and Silver having a nice quiet Christmas evening together under a furry blanket in the glow of the fireplace with a nice cup of cocoa after exchanging their gifts for each other. For Silver, he got a new scarf that Marina made herself. For Marina, she got a new bracelet made from comet crystals. (I know it's hard to see, but it's on her left wrist. A gold band with blue crystals.)
Of course, in many Christmas moments like this, there's always a cat or dog sleeping on the floor enjoying the warmth. So, I decided to add in Kopa. And here he's a little bit older and gaining his mane, not to mention that his fur has grown out that you can't see his scars anymore.”

——

Tbh, I don’t know what’s more frustrating - this title due to Avrett’s her lonely holiday (though we can’t know for sure) with her imaginary love, or Marina’s expression... I ‘love’ when one partner makes a present of smth luxurious and gets just a scarf/socks/sweater/etc.

And I guess that Kopa stays with Marina... Take him back to his family, god dammit!

Btw, Merry Christmas to ya all!

What's up with Silver's face? It looks worse than my avatar. I thought he was the only character that Andrea could draw well.

It looks like it was going to stop near Silver's cyborg hand/arm but then she extended it back farther for some reason. What really bothers me (aside from how bad their faces are) is the shading. It's an absolute mess.

Nice to see a new one. The background is a significant improvement over the earlier things she drew.

But it's still funny, because Mariana looks like she's been smoking weed all day, Silver has no neck and his head is disappearing into the mountain of flab of his shoulders, and the way the legs are drawn under the blanket doesn't quite work and it looks like there's a pair of legs and a huge boner going on. And the face on that lion manages to look like the sort of unsettling expression you'd expect to see on one of Disney's supposed-to-be-comical-but-actually-fucking-sinister old men.
