Random, but I found this in regards to a scene from Toy Story 5.
So I don’t know a better thread to post this in but I need to give my piping hot Toy Story 5 take.
If I was to sum it up in one word I would call it “Niggerlicous”
And when I say that I’m not trying to be edgy and say that it acts in an inappropriate or “urban” way. What I mean is almost every single character, (especially every single nice character) is black or some gross mulatto mix.
But none of the characters act like Black people, in fact, every single person acted like the most whitest person to ever live. Even the fully Black people are actually reading books and going camping and doing all those white people things. It’s kinda like a Star Trek future where all the races decided it’s best to act like the white man.
Also, I used to roll my eyes at this, but I have to admit that Black people do have a point when they say that there is a problem when it comes to depicting Black people in animation and video games. Every single black person didn’t look 100% black. They had black skin, but for some reason, they all had white people noses so pretty much every single black person looked Indian and I think the the second protagonist was like a black Indian mix? Which is like the most cursed thing I can think of. But again this half Indian half black kid acted like the most white person on planet earth, even having horses, living on a ranch and both their parents are active in their life..
One less racially charged movie critique I’ll make is that they have definitely bent the knee and doing things more like illusion animation aka minions by having a A and B, where the A Plot is the main story and the B plot is just silly guys being silly to make the babies laugh. Also, they have hyper toned down the sentimentality. Like other Pixar movies try to make the grown-ups in the audience cry, but this time there was quite literally nothing.
I do remember a Disney executive making an off comment saying something like their movie shouldn’t be therapy for their own writers or something and that is definitely shows in this movie where there is really no big swinging “ make you think” moments.
After the movie was over, it came in huge letters that it was edited by “Jenifer Jew” and I burst out laughing and had some very suspect phenotypes give me death stares in the theater as we exited.
I give it 6 watermelons out of 10 fried chicken. I do think it had a good message for kids when it comes to tech and it’s much better than Goy Story 4.
