Just watched The Lion King.

The stills don't do justice to the heavy use of body language and camera work to express emotion. The characters don't really use facial expressions so much to show how they're feeling; it's all in how they physically interact.

And strangely, it works. I liked the movie a ton, and was more or less sold when I came across a review that was bitching about the movie because Pride Rock is apparently an allegory for Trump Tower.

the movie was pretty meh, but i didn't hate the CG of the lions. They did show emotion, just because they weren't grinning like retarded chimps didn't mean they lacked emotion. Still prefer it to the cartoon, i like seeing real animals.

Rotten Tomatoes says the movie was enjoyed by 56% of critics and 91% of the audience, thus far. In case you’re still wondering just how far out of touch movie reviews have gotten.

For my part, I don’t recall ever seeing a movie theater audience break into applause at the end of a film before.

It's sad that I actually I agree with the rotten tomatoes critics for once in regards to this garbage.

Movies routinely get 90+ in audience polling and an A- to A+ on that terrible audience measurement. Sometimes it proves the critics are out of touch, sometimes it doesn't. A good indicator that this is not one of those cases where the critics are out of touch is when normal people on twitter are unimpressed and normal YouTube reviewers aren't either.

"Through 10 days, the Jon Favreau-helmed film has grossed $346M overseas"

Right there. That's all they care about is the overseas market. Domestic gross isn't even a consideration anymore, who cares what the people at home think about it when the outside world is raking in the cash. Except... they're not giving numbers when it comes to each individual country it's shown in, right? It might be making moolah, but is it really as popular as they want us to believe? Was it really as big of a hit in China as they'd like us to think?

Now its surpassing Endgame records... Unsurprisingly, most of the cash is coming from China... Meanwhile Endgame has surpassed Avatar's box officer record (without adjusting for inflation, which ensures that Gone with the Wind won't be dethroned) and unsurprisingly, the majority of Endgame's gross came from China too.

So I rewatched The Lion King and if I had one complaint about it, it's the fact that the chameleon in the gorge was so contrived, so conveniently timed to get Simba to practice his roars so he could fully believe he was the one who caused the wildebeest stampede. The hyenas were the ones who caused the stampede by making a ruckus, however, which they did when Scar gave them the signal to begin (which was just by showing up to give them a look, I dunno). Why couldn't they have waited to hear the echo of Simba's feeble roar in order to get the timing down just right?

So guess my question is how they handled the wildebeest stampede in making Simba believe it was his fault. Did they keep in the contrived chameleon?

Scar told Simba to practice his roar in the cartoon, the chameleon was just a convenient target, he probably would have done it anyway.

So how effective is Scar? I can't give two fucks about Simba or Musafa and Nala is a lost cause (Beyoncé).

I do not understand the impetus behind the mass of lemmings that went to see this thing.

These movies are staples of our childhood. They’re supposed to stay in the past while we move on to bigger and better things.

Why is this generation so creatively bankrupt in our tastes???
It's just how it is, unfortunately. People grow up, look at the stuff from the past and figure "Let's see if this can turn a profit!" without realizing why it was good (or bad, if that happens to be the case) in the first place. That and "New ideas are haaaaaaaaard." But that's always been an issue since the latter half of the 20th century.
