Zombie Simpsons wouldn’t have made that last joke. They’d have had her shame the guy off the horse so she could have it.
 
I really enjoyed the stand-alone episodes from the first season, but I'm just not invested enough in the characters to give a shit about resurrecting Elfo, Bean being the Chosen One or any of the other plotlines they developed in the finale.
 
Eh, I found all of the characters except the one Eric Andre voiced to be mostly unlikable. (Which is ironic, because I don't even usually like Eric Andre.)

Particularly, Elfo died, and I honestly didn't even care.

I'll probably background noise the second season when it drops though.
 
Saw the second season, it was better than the first season but not by much. It had a episode where
The king fucks a furry bear lady for some reason.
 
The best term I can think of to describe Disenchantment season 2 is "weirdly dissonant." It feels like the show is afraid to be funny, constantly pulling back from jokes to reassure the audience that they're not serious. The most stark (and spoiler free) example of this is in the second episode where Bean talks her way past two guards and then, once the scene is over, comments on how misogynist they were. Its weird to see a supposed comedy attack its own joke as if its ashamed for telling it.

Writing off Oona like that was complete bullshit.

Getting old sucks. Pretty much every creator that gets old starts to put out shitty work. I think George Miller, Kurosawa and Mario Bava might be the few exceptions to the rule.

Also in regards to the show, the comedy is piss poor but for whatever reason I'm intrigued to watch despite it all
 
I fell asleep halfway through the first episode last night, although that was because I was really fucking tired and would have fallen asleep during anything rather than a snarky comment on quality. I will say I don’t remember the first season very well and the recap didn’t help much, so there’s a bunch of callbacks that went over my head. I’ll give it another roll later.
 
Watched it, kinda like it. It has a few nice gags here and there and I enjoy the main characters, they have their moments, especially Luci.

This is the worst problem, the first 4 or 5 episodes rush through the plot and then there's 4 episodes of filler and one episode that's just a big cliffhanger for season3.
They don't particularly explore their characters that well. The episode about Prince Derek particularly. The characters are just a bit too bland overall. They should either go all the way and have their characters be full-on stereotypes (like in Simpsons) and do gags with that, or give them more personality and play off of that.

They seem to aim for a story-driven format, but they really suck at pacing the plot, it felt like they had not enough plot for the entire season, so they made rather pointless filler. I still thought it was entertaining, but it's nowhere near the quality of early Simpsons or Futurama.

I guess I'll keep on watching, but it's clearly not living up to its potential.

Yes, it did. The production cycle on this is 20 episodes at a time split into 10 episode seasons. After the first batch was released, Netflix announced they had picked it up for another cycle, meaning we’ll be getting 10 episodes each in 2020 and 2021.
 
Dumb question, but was there ever an explanation for why the elfs decided to move to Dreamland?

The lack of resolution to the octopus plot is one of the most frustrating things about this season. I get that the octopus is probably coming back next season, but the ending to that episode was too abrupt. Serialization is no excuse for shoddy plotting!

That's what I was wondering about too. One episode, they get the elves to revive Dreamland, the next there's an Elf-Ghetto...
A good sign I'm not too invested in the show myself, even though I enjoy it, is that I pretty much just brushed this whole thing aside without really giving a fuck.

Yeah, you'd think there'd be something, but it's just Beanie "rescues" Derek and then the episode is over... and frankly, I doubt we'll see much of that Octopus again.

Disenchantment should seriously commit to whatever it is it's trying to do.
When you think about it, Simpsons and Futurama have absolutely crushingly depressing moments at times (Ie: Homer's mom leaving and Fry's dog waiting for Fry), Disenchantment never really goes much into the emotional direction, even if there's a clear setup (like that bear-lady episode)...

Overall, I think Disenchantment is lackluster, since it really doesn't take advantage of what it could do, but at the same time I think it's enjoyable enough to warrant my attention.
But it could be a whole lot better, if they just went through with some of the shit they could do.
