The reviews have started coming out, and the one from Vice is rather amusing. It's pretty much a SJW buzzword stew, here's a sample:

Disenchantment is an unfunny mess, unsure of what it’s satirizing, and unfortunately wastes talented voice actors and a rich world on hollow jokes. Most gags trod on the already downtrodden have-nots of Dreamland, the show's trope-y fantasy kingdom backdrop, instead of punching up. The exceptions are (usually hamfisted) allusions to Trump. Beyond that, every romantic relationship unfailingly reinforces tired gender stereotypes.

>trod on the already downtrodden
>instead of punching up
>allusions to Trump
>every romantic relationship unfailingly reinforces tired gender stereotypes

One paragraph, four sentences, four SJW bitchfests.

Yeah it's time for a thread for Vice, I think.

I regret voting yes... It doesn't look that bad.
Oh well, if you never get your hopes up you'll never be dissapointed.
I'll probably watch a couple episodes though.

By "trod on the already downtrodden" he clearly means the jokes are overdone and predictable. You're right about the other shit though.

I'll give this a go when I get in from work, they've just been uploaded on kimcartoon.

Watching it right now while preparing for a move, it isn't a predictable me-too of Simpsons. Or Futurama.

The voice acting is cute, as is the shadow demon thingy.

I’ve watched the first two episodes and I’m liking it so far. It’s not as good as early Simpsons or Futurama, but I’d be impressed if it convinced me it was in the first two episodes.

I hope it’s not too serialised going forward, although I’ve heard it will be. Futurama struck a perfect balance between having continuing storylines while also being standalone and I think Disenchanted should follow suit.

I heard people say the animation was dodgy but I didn’t really notice (not that I really pay attention to that kind of thing) apart from the 3D shots which were a bit wobbly.

I think it's revenge. Another paragraph from that article:

Shows like Bojack Horseman, Steven Universe, and even Rick and Morty have laid out how to make a compelling animated series in 2018, and it’s disappointing that Disenchantment doesn’t take advantage of the opportunity to respond to the Apu controversy and learn from other criticisms of The Simpsons.

The two recommended articles embedded in the review are also both bloviating nonsense about the Apu documentary. Groening repudiated that idiocy so of course they are trying to make him pay in their pathetic, spiteful way.

The Simpsons did respond to the Apu "controversy" by saying that something that was once accepted or even considered progressive years ago could be viewed in a more negative light years later. But I guess since it wasn't the show admitting to how "racist" it was and going out of its way to unperson Apu, it doesn't count in their eyes.
