I don't really like Snyder's work outside of DC but the four movies he hade for DC are among my favorite comic book movies of all time and I like his cut of Justice League more than any of the Avengers movies.

Does that make sense to anyone else?

Snyder's DC movies are more like vegetables and meat. Whilst the MCU is sugar and desserts. In the moment, the MCU tastes nice. But later you realise there's nothing to it and you end up liking it a lot less. Whereas the Snyder movies - even if they're a bit more chewy - have a longer digestion and are a bit more satisfying. Even if less full of flavourings.

I firmly believe that the Snyder movies will be looked back on a lot more favourably than most of the MCU or the Gunn movies. A joke is never as funny the second time, but a real emotion can be.

James Gunn's self-insert in his movies is almost always a child abuser or child murderer, see Weasel in The Suicide Squad very clearly meant to be a James Gunn self-insert character.
 
I cringe thinking what could Gunn have up his sleeve with Joker.

Not to defend Jared Leto because he sucked as Joker in Suicide Squad, but he was going to have a tough time topping Ledger’s Joker. Leto’s Joker was just a insufferable and boring imitation of Ledger’s Joker without some of the likability, charisma, and sadistic humor Ledger had.

Phoenix’s Joker was the closet matching Ledger’s Joker but all the good will Joker 1 and Phoenix’s performance had was ruined by Joker 2.

Gunn will probably fuck up Joker’s backstory or try to make him into a joke of a villain if he doesn’t get the boot from Ellison.

This is some revisionist shit that Snyderfags like to spout, his flims were also dumb spectacles hell he made his name making a 1:1 adaptation of 300 which was a subject of mockery because all he did was was turn up the lens flare and made every shot a slow mo effect hence why the film looks like garbage nowadays. Back then the DCEU were trying to be more than what their source material and audience demanded of them and they failed spectacularly at it whereas the MCU didn't try at all and succeeded for the longest time and it says a lot that the most successful film to spawn from the DCEU was fucking Aquaman the most MCU adjacent of the lineup none of Snyder films.

I mean I believe that because he was a friend of Houston Huddleston. His personal site has articles about his convicted sex offender friend sending him the best pedo jokes ever. Gunn scrubbed it from the internet archive.

I disagree with the framing that supergirl could never have been a hit etc. etc. Supergirl could have worked with non-retards in charge and booster gold has potential, not with this creative team I'm sure if they do it it will be a big pile of shit but this constant insistence that there is no way to make these characters work is letting james gunn and co off the hook for being terrible writers and garbage "creatives" in general.

"They just picked the wrong projects" no, they were fundamentally incompetent from top to bottom with every single decision from story to script to casting to directing to editing to score, even the fucking lighting in the movie is trash.

Obviously anyone of room temperature IQ or above would have started their "cinematic universe" by establishing batman, superman, wonderwoman before expanding but a supergirl movie could have worked with a completely different script/cast/director/story/etc. Not anymore, they've killed the character and raped its corpse with just one movie but it wasn't just that james gunn picked the wrong project and this is the result, it's that james gunn sucks at everything and everything he touches becomes troonslop.

A booster gold movie could be fire with the right people and casting. It wont be if its made while james gunn has any involvement at all.

kaufman's filmmaking style stops working when you have HUNDREDS of MILLIONS in the production budget. no need to squeeze every cent to get the scene on celluloid when you can throw money at the problem. to some extent, gunn's films would be better if he was penny pinching. tighter shots and stories and since its a major studio no pacing issues from long sex scenes.

fun fact: troma had a family friendly imprint which distributed my neighbor totoro in the us before the majors got involved.


lobo vs supergirl would've been a fun movie with natural misogyny vs feminism flavour.
