People give the snyder verse shit, but It was trying to say something and it had the balls to be serious. Nobody really does that anymore these days. I think it's biggest sin is probably rushing things too much, but it gave everybody the money shots. It didnt waste too much time navel gazing. And the fights have aged pretty dam well.
Also aquman kicked total ass. It was like watching my kid comics come to life. I can never give them shit for that.
Seriously, I think the decision to not commit to Black Adam's arc and just ditch everything related to Zack will be looked back on as a monumental mistake. How much did that really lose compared to supergirl?
I really wanted a justice society movie. Im not even that big a fan comics wise and I thought these guys were just so dam delightfully earnest and plucky. The justice league B team that will never give up.

Make of that what you will, but Gunn retconned that in Creature Comandos. It ended up being revealed that weasel was framed, and he actually loves and takes care of kids.
Why this was never even hinted on his Suicide Squad's movie is anyone's guess. But this does mirror his being canceled due to his tweets saga.

I never watched creature commandos passed the opening credits of the first episode because the animated james gunn was too much self-indulgent egotism for me.
Maybe gunn considers himself to be a reformed/ex-pedo or something like that, making the villains in supergirl pedos could be a way of him further exercising those demons? not sure, still wouldn't be comfortable with him around children in real life but this is as favorable of a reading that I can give that he has "gone straight" as it were and thinks he is cured.

Not using Bad Reputation in your Girl Stronk Slop movie challenge: impossible.
Overall it was incredibly boring. It was never as bad as something like Shazam 2, but it also never had any elements I liked despite the rest of the movie like Black Adam or Gunnman.

I have no idea why people, even people working at WB think Snyder's issue was that he has dark and serious. It wasn't.
On the contrary he was right on the money that this was the best path to differentiate the DCEU from Marvel. Trying to create an epic saga was a good idea too.
His main issue is how much he departed from the core of the characters. His Superman specially was too far from the classic boy scout. Making him a conflicted depressed god just didn't work.
The DCAU could be darker than he ever was. Just watch the video of how Hamill's joker died. And that was the alleged kid's show. And they managed without being secretly embarrassed of doing the characters straight.

I think dark does not work for Superman. Light and serious should be the approach. Dark and serious works for BATMAN. Superman isn't above being quippy with a criminal who got too confident. But things shouldn't be dark with Superman. Serious? Sure. High stakes? Absolutely. But with Superman, the darkness shouldn't last for too long. Snyder forgot that.

How quickly do we forget Whedon. There are no Gunn quips. There are only Whedon quips. The reason the only Zack Snyder* marvel movie failed with critics was because it lacked Whedon quips.
The director was inspired by the seriousness of Snyder when making her movie. He was the blueprint. And I'll say that her work on it, including the acting and almost everything else (apart from the action) was miles better than what Snyder has done on with the dceu.

The thing Snyderfags don't get is that the problem with his version of Supes was not that he was different its that it wasn't fun to sit through or even watch. I actually liked his take on Supes more than Gunn's but the framework for his movies were just not good and that's the reason why Supes can never be seen as cool anymore unless he's being yet another evil superman. Its retarded how WB have no faith in Superman as a concept anymore because Snyder fucked it up and because Super Girl flop they're going to be all about Batman now.

I think dark and serious can work around Superman. He can, and has fought abusive fathers for example. He can right a reality evil corrupt executive ( Lex)
He can and has dealt with serious issues like suicide, and racism.
And he has done it without becoming an edge Lord. He can deal with dark issues so long as he keeps being that farm boy from Kansas that just wants to do good.

Its amazing how how Snyder has done nothing but prove WB decision to cancel the DCEU was the right choice with his Netflix movies tanking hard and I don't see a single Snyderfag defending any post JL movie he's done. Its literally only pajeets and battered wives who worship the guy nowadays.

Gunn isn't that talented. He did what Disney thought they wanted and with that he censored his creativity which then neutered it.
After Whedon was fired everyone tried to copy him.
Every movie had Whedon quips. Gunn too. But he's not capable of amplifying then. Just overusing then. All his movies are written in the shower where he's having imaginary conversations and arguing. The only thing Gunn popularized in the MCU was yelling to get the point across and then a boom moment where it's meant to be poignant but comes off like a highschool play.
The same thing in his DCU projects.

I would argue the opposite. All of those keep the core of the character which is Bruce Wayne a rich man with every positive talented and privilege a man would want that decided adopt the persona of a bat to fight injustice to avenge his parents he lost as a child in an alleyway.
The only real difference is the tone. West's was campy, and Nolan's was "realistic" etc
The core, is not the tone, but their essence.
Not sure if it was directed at me, but if it was, would be ironic how I have been called both a Synder and Gunn fan on this thread . I am critical of both of them and I praise both, if I think they deserve it.
I am DC fan not a celebrity director fan.

Superman can deal with dark and serious subjects. But it never lasts. It never lingers. Deal with the dark issue and move on. Snyder let it linger. The darkness stayed like a roommate that stopped paying rent and eats all your food. First movie: Superman's traumatic beginnings with his dead dad and the city that got destroyed. Second movie: Superman's kidnapped mother, status as a pariah and death. Third movie: Superman's dark resurrection and brainwashing. All with the Twilight filter that made everything look blue and depressing. This was a story with Superman in it but it was not a Superman story. Nothing in the Snyderverse made you feel hopeful when Superman was on screen. The tone, the story, the characters, nothing. All depressing. This was Batman: Speeding Bullet without the hopeful ending. I will give Snyder this: he knows how to write movies for other characters. He needed someone to rein him in for Superman stories though.
