The Wrap article also mentioned that Gunn has no plan the DCU. Gunn fucked up by picking niche characters nobody wants and he chose a character that was also coming off of a piece of shit show on CW. Say what you want about DCEU/SynderVerse, at least there was somewhat of a plan before they fucked up.
Almost nothing has been consistent with the Gunn DCU. Everything has changed, some projects look like they won't even be happening or like they'll be stuck in Development Limbo for good. It doesn't seem much better than the DCEU, and in some aspects it comes off as worse.

Assuming Gunn didn't have his hands forced by executive mandate, my assumption is he fell into the trap of thinking obscure characters can frontline a franchise by themselves instead of gradually supporting big names.

Superman honestly did the formula alright with the way it incorporated the justice gang. But everything else is way too soon. Guardians was successful because marvel movies were popular. It wasn't successful because people suddenly loved space movies with racoons.

The villain movies with clayface and such might workout but that's a big maybe. It feels kinda late after joker.

I don't really like Snyder's work outside of DC but the four movies he hade for DC are among my favorite comic book movies of all time and I like his cut of Justice League more than any of the Avengers movies.

Does that make sense to anyone else?

Watchmen is his best DC film by a long shot.

As I said before, his film and the Dark Knight trilogy made me a DC fan more than Marvel despite growing up with the Sam Rami Spider Man movies.

Jackie Earl Haley was pitch perfect as Rorschach and I can’t see anyone else in the role.

Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was also perfect as Comedian.

I think his movies were perhaps treated too harshly. He's a good visual director and seems to actually enjoy DC, but like most directors given too much free reign, he needs someone to give him a story treatment, and an editor to tell him that he's already used 10 minutes of slow-mo.

It's ironic that post-Endgame Marvel is much worse.

His DC work was different. They took themselves seriously. A bit too seriously. To the point where we can laugh at it. It's unintentional shlock unlike intentional shlock where it's fun.

His DC movies and outside of movies are the same. A puddle pretending it's a lake pretending it's an ocean. Visually they're nice. Stomping up and down in muddy puddles is fun. Can't do that in a lake or an ocean.

Isn't that what comic books are, epic looking pulp fiction?

It's when comic books are more than that that they suck.

I like that Snyder treats these stories as epics to be taken seriously even though they are about a man who dresses like a bat.

Epic stories that look good and treat the rediculous as common place are what got me into reading comics in the first place.

His movies capture more of what I felt reading comics for the first time as a kid than something like Thor Ragnorok or other films where the director treats the subject matter as a joke because they are smarter than the silly comics.

No. Even if you liked Man of Steel and his cut of Justice League Batman v Superman is still fucking garbage. The biggest issue with the DCEU was the lack of forethought that went into making it and they essentially luck themselves into success due to capeshit being a trend but they just do not hold up well when looked into as a shared universe. I hate because of the dreary and melancholic theme of MoS we're stuck with "heckin chungus" dork Superman now because there was nothing inherently wrong with the portrayal as goofy as the execution in some areas it opened up room for some character development if WB didn't get cold feet over the reception. The Synder Cut is really fucking bloated and feels like what was going to be a two part movie before they fucked up everything, its better than Wheldon's abortion but its such a low hurdle. I get Synder's appeal and hurt but I will never get why people like current Gunn he's the definition of a one-trick pony.

There’s a lot to like about Snyder. His idea of making a serious, and mature DC universe wasn’t actually bad, and it made complete sense as he took reigns after Nolan.

If he had kept the quality of Nolan, Marvel would had gotten very serious competition , but that wasn’t the case.

I just think he wasn’t the right person to be the architect of it all, or the main written for that matter. He would’ve excelled far more, If he had kept in his lane of visuals, as second in command, or even as part of a core DC leadership.
