Say what you will about Supergirl but at least it has yet to use a real person's death to promote the movie. 1000024366.jpg

That Australian mutant doing something that funny would actually improve my opinion.

Unfortunately her film lacks the Architect and I will not see it, unlike Black Adam, which was the last movie I ever saw in theatres while really fucked up.

I honestly wonder what was going through Rowling's head when she decided her favourite character and vanguard of normality should be gay.

My pet theory is that it was Rowling's attempt to protect him, and keep him celibate. and away from, any women that "wouldn't deserve him". We are talking about a straight female author.

Allegedly, Dumbledore is gay, but he might as well not be into romance because he hardly ever acted on it. Besides some breadcrumbs of him not attacking Grindelwald, it's the perfect excuse to not have him date anyone in practice.

It's a win win for Rowling because she keeps him celibate and she got her woke back pats back then before the left decided to hate her.

I just threw up in my mouth when that loaded in.

It’s not the first time the new Supergirl has done this but I’m glad other people are saying she’s ugly. My mom and dad are watching House of the Dragon and during our weekly catchup she goes, “That main girl, the new Supergirl? She’s..,..not a pretty girl. I hate to say it but she looks like she’s from Planet of the Apes.”

The one positive thing I can say is that she does have the tomboy action girl look that often the live action supergirls lack, and the best animated versions have. Melissa Benoist is far prettier, yes , but she is more suited for a nice girl role (fitting given she was a Clark clone) .

That being said, yeah I agree. It’s obvious she is a Gunn nepotism hire.

“Young pretty white blond girl that dreams of being an actress” must be the easiest type to find in Hollywood. You move a rock and you find 20 of those.

I am sure nobody cares she appeared in Game of Thrones. She just wasn’t the best choice for the role. Gunn likes to hang out with her that’s why she got the role.

iirc Gay Dumbledore actually first came up during the second or third movie's production when the first story came out of Rowling using her veto power on the script to nix a line from him about an ex-gf
what he did with his wand in his off-hours wasn't really relevant to the on-screen stuff but it also wasn't really on-screen or in the book, it was an outside detail howevermuch people blew the fuck up about it when she brought it up after the books were done
but I def recall a lot of "ohhhhhh, so he's a 'confirmed bachelor' got it" jokes when the veto story came out
It was actually during the sixth movie's production when the books were long finished. There was a scene in the early script where Dumbledore and Harry are having a heart-to-heart in his office about Harry's girl troubles and Dumbledore has an entire monologue about an ex-girlfriend which was supposed to inspire Harry to finally make a move on Ginny. Yates rewrote the entire thing after Rowling sent back a note about Albus being a gay.

Yes, there was a disagreement between the director and the screenwriter regarding a scene in *The Half-Blood Prince* where Dumbledore steals a pornographic magazine from a Muggle house Slughorn was occupying. It's that kind of thing that makes these sexuality retcons inconsistent.

Currently, there's this absurd belief that Superman and Lex Luthor are "closest gays," and I partly attribute that to Gunn, albeit indirectly. Besides, he keeps making analogies that "Superman is an illegal immigrant." So, are we supposed to accept the big change that Superman's parents were "space Nazis" like the Viltrumites?

This is another problem the fandom could have internally; the Snyder fans would obviously be looking for nepotism, but in Gunn's favor, it was very easy to get an actress he already knew how to work (in film).

But I feel that the 2025 Superman we got was ironically thanks to sensationalist news about a Black Superman—a change that was too radical and divisive, to be honest, and it's good that it remained "fake news" because it wouldn't have come to pass.
God, that color is too "human skin," it looks like it was inspired by South Park, but "It's not a source," meaning "memes aren't sources." The source that the glass was hideous was the image.
I bet the jacket was added later in the design.

"It looks too much like Superman, it needs her soon to be iconic jacket!"

This is why Warner got sold.
I feel it's strange that they want to change something about Supergirl, like making her a "Badgirl" who gets drunk and is arrogant. It seems strange to me and feels very "generic Pop."

Let's hope it's just a prototype, because otherwise, the sight of radical Snyder fans fighting over that hideous glass will be enough to make you cry.

She would if they actually knew what a tomboy is. This screams "safe rebel" and it sucks. She looks like someone who wants to pretend to be a "bad girl" but she feels like the most badass thing she has done was sleep without a night light once.

Imo, one of three things should have been done:

1. Bring that chick from the Flash movie. She was a cute tomboy and the fans found her pretty. Might as well do what worked.

2. Go full teenage girl Supergirl classic. Have her be a normal teen that wants to save the world and go hang out at the mall with her friends. Perhaps a bit melancholic but also exited for being at a new planet with a civilization.

3. FULL BLOWN PUNK! With hair gel, dye and make-up. No more half-assing the rebel act and she gets a unique look that fits what they are going for (instead of just aviators with trench coat over a hero suit trying too hard to look cool).

Realistically, what should have been done for Supergirl would have been to do a DC Super Hero Girls / Super Best Friends film. Supergirl is a fine character, but I think a movie needs a bit more star power, so making it a World’s Finest Women film with Batgirl co-starring, and maybe Wonder Girl would flesh it out. DCAU even gave them the template:

This would mean proper planning as you would need a Batman and Wonder Woman to come before, but that should have happened anyway. They could have made this their girl Teen Titans if they played it correctly, a perfect template to have a bit more freedom in the universe and use some lesser characters like Livewire, who are popular but not Superman film popular.

Also, Kara should transition to Powergirl. It would further her distinction from Superman so you don’t get things like the above cup. Make her the Nightwing of her own brand, it is really that simple.

The way to do a Supergirl movie was the first half of Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

Slightly older Clark needs to be present so you can address the legacy aspect and being in the shadow of such a man. Him being “the dad” figure in the teenage girl story, with the complication of being her little cousin/older sibling figure.

But he has to be present, the world has to be lived in.

Not bad ideas but Gunn didn't plan with common sense in mind. As you said, we need Batman to be a thing for WFW to be viable and JL for Teen Titans to work.

Livewire is a good choice as she can take hostages, hurt Kryptonians and is a woman. However, she would be made to be too redeemable from the start (to the point she only needed a woman to fuck understand her in order to turn good). Sadly, this happens way too often. Also, Milly doesn't have the "budget" to play Powergirl.

That would be ideal, and in fact I would argue, that's the character at her best— Teenage girl finding her way.

I think the reason they haven't done that is that current climate is they just can't fathom a strong female character being inspired by a guy. No, she has to be a girl boss.

CW made her a basically Clark in a skirt, and even the Superhero girls adaptation had to change the dynamic and make Superman the asshole narcissist sibling/cousin. By the trailers Gunn seems to be aiming at "she is the realist" , to naive Clark.

The idea that a woman could be inspired by a man, even if that man is Superman, it's like poison to this people. As it was degrading her instead of making him relatable and strong in her own way.

You can make a Supergirl movie for cheap. Just have her struggle with being in her cousin's shadow. Have her meet up with an agent who has her do all sorts of nuisance streamer stunts to raise her popularity. Stage some supervillain fights. Then have her realize that her newfound fame is hollow and doing the right thing is not glamorous it is, its own reward and she accepts being second fiddle to Clark. The post credits have Power Girl show up and she expresses her frustration with now being number 3 in popularity, end on a boob joke.

Easy film to make, have her fight some wacky villains and you're good.
