💼 Careercow Darrick Dishaw / Venger Satanis / Kort'thalis Publishing - Incompetent TTRPG Creator, Filthy Coomer, Chronic Stoner, and Lovecraftian Cult Leader with a Cult of Grognards

Also, like 4/5ths of them don't try to do any outreach to communities to expand and sell their games since grifts are good enough. OSR will die when they do, especially since they keep picking the most retarded online platforms to shill from. First Google+, and then MeWe of all places. Real winners guys.
Yeah, that's how I feel too, like, most Millennial grognards are into 3.5 which they despise, I imagine more interest will be with 3.5 inspired games will replace OSR which is pretty easy to do already because OGL as the Millennials replace these boomers/GenXers

This reminds me how Darrick is in denial that his cult he tried to form is not an utter failure because he forgets that in order for a cult to have longevity, they need a successor, ideally more enthusiastic than the founder. He needs a Paul to his Jesus, a Brigham Young to his Joseph Smith, a Rutherford to his Charles Tase Russell, that's how cults become religions, if they survive the leader's death after a few generations. It is why the Oneida Society failed because the children of the commune members didn't want to live that lifestyle and they weren't bringing in new adult members to make up for it, especially since their unusual methods of raising children and weird sex practices turned them away.

I imagine Darrick's kids wouldn't want to take the mantle either especially since he doesn't overtly raise them his retarded version of Lovecraftian Satanism and puts them in Catholic schools, even Joseph Smith III of the Community of Christ sect of Mormonism only did so after a lot of convincing from his mother Emma.

What John forgets to mention is that wokies still blow the OSR out of the water by an order of magnitude usually, especially compared to his and Darrick's swill. It's almost like OSR only appeals to people in their 40s to 60s who got angy that DnD changed at all or something. Also, like 4/5ths of them don't try to do any outreach to communities to expand and sell their games since grifts are good enough. Also while Darrick is a baked coombrained loser who zones out and sits there like a lump usually, I see a burn of his own there too. Imagine being so boring that you can't even keep interest for a group for 20 minutes.

The counter point I have is, if you toss out Woke infiltration of Wizards and Paizo (because as copeioid addicts in the TTG thread say "I just ignore the woke parts") ... Coomson Dragon Slayer probably has more unironic players than Thirsty Sword Lesbians. The Brown Lumpy Trans-potato people sell a lot of books and doodads, but that's because its from a virtue signal art society circle jerk. No one is actually playing the games, they are virtue signal accessories you take a picture for Twitter/Insta and then put on your shelf before you try to give it away or toss.
No one SHOULD play anything Darrick wrote, but looks like people actually do.

The OSRs are doing a shit job of out reach, partly because you have Coomers like Darrick and Jim (and Zach to a lesser degree) coopting the space. Just because people are OK if there are mentions of rapes and other unwoke-things happening doesn't mean they want slime tentacle clown rape every (10 minute long) session.

The other issue with OSR is the further you go back in editions, the more you need a good, seasoned DM. And getting a DM is usually the problem for most groups, or you wouldn't have people like Arcadum making their living by being a DM-for-hire (or, you know, was until his embarrassing VR Chat pity cooming came out).

Oh I know that there's more people who play OSR, but it don't matter since companies also live by sales, which is what the wokies beat the shit out of them on. And playerbase will shrink as more grognards die since they don't appeal to youngsters and rarely bother trying with them.

This is all ignorant bloviating, but I think maybe the older style roleplay is dying out because vidya got so good. Personally if I wanted a combat based game with fantasy story, I'd turn to vidya. When 1st and 2nd edition came out games were pretty primitive. The game systems ended up in shit tons of games.

The new generation of players almost seem like they're playing in ways that video games can't really address. Open ended story driven adventures, stuff you maybe can't script or translate to switch cases so readily.

TBH I don't think many people actually play Darrick or John's stuff, either. I mean, TSL ain't my cup of anything, but there are several actual play podcasts/YouTube vids of it, compared to ONE I could find for Cha'alt, and zero for Lion & Dragon. Hell, Pundit doesn't even talk about playing L&D, and he wrote it. Like, if you aren't even playing your own game, why would I? Say what you will about Zweihander, but the author plays it on the reg in streamed games, and has for years. I see dudes tagging Venger and Pundy on social media with NOTICE ME SEMPAI after buying their shit, but I don't see anyone... ANYONE... talking about playing these games. Reverse virtue signaling is a thing, too. I mean, I may disagree with Alexander Macris' politics, but people play his Adventurer, Conqueror, King System. People talk about how much they like it. You will not find praise for the mechanics of Cha'alt or Lion & Dragon. They're just not getting played. People don't buy them to play them, they buy them to "support the cause".

New Darrick video! Something about Brad Owen, I am too tired right now, but I will post commentary tomorrow when I am more awake, thought I'd archive it though

9 minutes and thirty eight seconds of almost no eye contact to make an absolutely belabored point about player motivation. He spends the great majority of the video uhmmming his way through explaining a different video and then you can see his brain short circuit when he tries to tie in something about roleplay.

I've never heard of L&D and I guess what I'm looking at is less those LotFP/Knave/Black Hack/White Hack/Alpha Blue/DCC/OSE's Homebrew/Mork Borg/Pick your favorite 5-saves compatible ORGINAL GAME DO NOT STEAL and more for modules and supplements for OD&D whether B/X or Advanced (or 2eADND).
I think Knave and one of the colored Hacks is the only games I've seen people asking for players, but I know of some folks running DCC. I've seen a few B/X and 1/2eA games sniffing for players (and I think the B/X games were OSE - or at least linking to the OSE wiki) and while that is completely drown out by 5e, its ALWAYS 5e homebrew settings - no Magic Faggot Academy games wanting players. I think the Artic Setting is the only one I saw someone using a official setting in a request.

I'd also argue that you have a lot of demo sessions for your favorite Dick Inversion Module as they get 'influencers' to do a demo session to get in on the tranny circle jerk to gain followers, but no one is organically sitting down to play it. I guess I don't rely on Youtube at all.
And don't forget that Cha'alt has sleaze as a setting goal, so no propert Cha'alt session is going to meet Youtube's content guidelines. Something we should be thankful for every day.
I mean, if you were playing Cha'alt would you actually tell anyone outside of the Coomer Cabal you're having totally hetero clownrape roleplay sessions with?

Again, its as @Adamska said, the Wokies are moving units and that's what publishers are looking at, but no one is talking about their TSL game or advertising for players. People do ask about LotFP.

Honestly, you summed up the video pretty well, I have really nothing else to say about it after watching it, just Darrick being Darrick

Honestly I prefer some of the "woke" games simply because they try to come up with new mechanics. All these ones made by people who are trying to fight woke are more often than not just 1st edition AD&D with the serial numbers filed off to the point where I feel like if I've played one I've played them all.

Basically why can't they be both edgy and innovative?

Give it one more generation of gamers and we'll be right back to big tiddy lady barbarians and airbrushed wizards.

I think it all ties into counterculture and what's considered a cool aesthetic. Edgy and grimdark has been over done at this point, so woke shit seems like some kind of innovation. Once the TSL players become grognards the pendulum will probably swing back.

You aren't wrong. I mean the OSR that's my go-to is OSE which is literally B/X with some editing and clarification. I also don't really see a lot of value in a lot of the ORIGINAL GAME DO NOT STEAL that makes up a lot of the OSR systems. Honestly I'd see more value of play helpers like Hardness and Material tables to help adjudicate some of the edge cases, instead of another "1eAD&D but with 5e's advantage mechanic and some different spells/monsters".

I guess I'm not burned out enough to really want to go into new mechanics except as a way of curtailing munchkins & powergamers, and most new mechanics systems do the opposite because playtesting is ableist gatekeeping.

I prefer Swords & Wizardry if I'm feeling "orthodox", since it's basically a pre-bloat AD&D (i.e., it doesn't have the rules we ignore anyway). I keep a copy of OSRIC handy in case I absolutely HAVE to have a rule for something that isn't covered by S&W. DCC is what I'm currently running, and it's one of the few OSR-adjacent games that delivers on its promise of "innovation".. Plus, it's so damn much fun.

Oh yeah guys, he just wants to make it clear he isn't starting a ttrpg religion, it is just that he is making a comparison to D&D and religion which is different and still retarded because it is taking TTRPGs too seriously

darrick just kidding.png

That's such a midwit stoner philosophy take. "What if reality is like, God's D&D session maaaaan". I'm shocked, absolutely shocked no one is having enlightened discussion on this take. It's shit you hear at 2am at a high school party.

Unfunny take using a genuinely good meme. Probably because both of them are virgins and they are so goddamn bad at explaining what's actually good about shit like BASIC or ADnD that you can't even do it right.

Reminder he joined John Tarnowski in a stream to brigade a brOSR dude on being a cult literally the day before he posted this retarded take.

"DM is god" was never meant to be literal you absolute wastecase. It was always a way to tell players "DM has final word". Gotta love the unwarranted narcissism coming from a dude so uncharismatic he couldn't even recreate an actual cult.

You can find exactly this conceit in a Jay Geis comic.
