💼 Careercow Darrick Dishaw / Venger Satanis / Kort'thalis Publishing - Incompetent TTRPG Creator, Filthy Coomer, Chronic Stoner, and Lovecraftian Cult Leader with a Cult of Grognards

Fun fact: the idiot who wrote the Wraeththu RPG book apparently lied to the writer of the series about the books about how the project was going. He'd discredit playtesters who criticized his edgy weird autistic headcanon for it being like Mad Max and not having the drama and fantasy it should've had. He stripped those out and focused mainly on killing the normals because of course. The complete idiot got fired by the writer for doing that by the way.

So now you have an idea on what would've happened to Darrick if he didn't self publish. Hell, he should be lucky that his books sell so bad, since he blatantly steals likenesses so much he could easily be sued if a company caught wind of his "PoP cUlTuRe" elements.

Oh, the irony... Also, what about stay at home moms?

edit: oh, and another thing I might add, unlike say, a disabled person who has a hard time maintaining a job and has no control over their disability because they were born with it, developed it due to shit genes, or due to an accident of some kind, Darrick chose his life. He chose to smoke so much weed that it affected his cognitive ability as well as causing his delusions, he also chose to live off of mommy wife while he tries to make a career out of grifting. I'm surprised due to how much he tries to dance around how much he hates troons that he is suddenly so openly ableist.

Maybe that's why he smokes so much weed... chemical autolobotomization.

That's a pretty Movieblob tier take from Darrick; ignorant, disgusting, pro-eugenics, and hypocritical coming from him. Because he'd be brain-snipped by his own standards given that he sponges off of his wife for most of the time. And that he at best technically avoids the gassing by his own standards with Troon tier scam fundraisers by stealing fans' ideas and repackaging them into barely-booklets.

Being a writer of OSR games automatically means there's like a 90% chance he's a lolcow anyway tbh and everything I've read about this guy backs up that theory.

Darrick put up a thirty second video about how Roleplaying Games are religion and every discussion about ttrpgs is a theological discussion. He has clearly lost it.

Roleplaying Games Are Religion.mp4
This is especially rich given that one of the first things he asked Jeffro Johnson was if the BROsr is a "cult". I shit you not.

A cult based on..?
I answered this last page, but to go into a little more detail, Jeffro and the "BROsr" are a group of self-proclaimed muscelbros who claim that AD&D 1E RAW (Rules As Written) is the ONE TRUE WAY, and if you don't play AD&D 1E RAW, you're not playing D&D. A cornerstone of their belief is apparently that campaign time must map to real time 1:1, that is to say, if a week passes between games, a week has passed in-game. This is apparently based on a quote from Gary Gygax in the Dungeon Masters' Guide: “Game time is of utmost importance. Failure to keep careful track of time expenditure by player characters will result in many anomalies in the game. The stricture of time is what makes recovery of hit points meaningful. Likewise, the time spent adventuring in wilderness areas removes concerned characters from their bases of operations – be they rented chambers or battlemented strongholds. Certainly the most important time strictures pertains to the manufacturing of magic items, for during the period of such activity no adventuring can be done. Time is also considered in gaining levels and learning new languages and more. All of these demands upon game time force choices upon player characters and likewise number their days of game life…YOU CAN NOT HAVE A MEANINGFUL CAMPAIGN IF STRICT TIME RECORDS ARE NOT KEPT.” They also believe that domain-level play is the endgame, and this has something to do with the hobby's wargaming roots and blah blah. I can't be bothered to try to parse it all, nor do I really care. It's all dumb, because it's well known that Gygax didn't play AD&D in his own games, he played something more akin to OD&D (the white box) than anything. It's also well known that AD&D was mainly written to try to screw Dave Arneson, co-creator of D&D, out of royalties by creating a whole "new" game, a strategy that was ultimately defeated by Arneson's lawyers in court.

Anyway, the BROsr dudes make a big deal about lifting and THE ONE TRUE WAY TO PLAY D&D, which for some reason Pundit, a literal internet "swami" who thinks TRUMP WON, and Venger, who legit thinks RPGs are a religion, see as cult-like behavior. I think it's more trolling than anything else. At one point, Pundit asked Jeffro why they talk about lifting and being hard, and Jeffro said, "Because it's funny", which just shows that the BROsr dudes seem to realize it's all for laughs, even if they prefer the AD&D RAW. Another point in their favor is that they say anyone can create a vibrant, living campaign (granted, they believe that's only possible by following the RAW), where Pundit and his cohorts claim DMing is some esoteric art that can only be achieved with years of dedication, practice and hard work, and even then only by a chosen few... How little must you have to be proud of in your life when you think of being a DM as some kind of accomplishment? Pundit is as big of a cow as Venger, for sure.

The Inappropriate Characters episode with Jeffro was mainly Pundit interrupting Jeffro to yell "CULT!" every few minutes, and/or read sycophantic messages from his paypigs in the live chat. I haven't listened to it all, because I don't hate myself.

I'm going to say that the BrOSR guys with their "Everything happens in 1:1 real time (so you are in communication daily)" + Do you even lift bro + that BrOSR guy on that video going on about trust definitely gives me some cult vibes.

However, the accusation coming from Darrick "I literally have my own cult" Dishaw is some pretty lofty kek.

The fun thing about this quote is doesn't say anything about 1:1 game versus real time at all. It's very clearly a case of "keep track of what your players say they do and apply logic to it". Basically, if it takes time to do it, factor it into the plot, especially if there is a ticking clock element you have in the background. It does not say at all that time out of game factors into game at all.

Also in my experience people who babble on about playing by RaW like to abuse loopholes and tend to be pretty unbearable to game with. Mainly because of bits like this where a lot of them seem to be unable to read.

Sheesh, it's almost like the OSR was formed by the original That Guys who got booted from a group or something. It's feeling more and more like it the more I learn about other content creators.

That doesn't make them any manlier. In fact it makes them sound like insecure weirdoes.

Darrick trying to mock them is rich given he not only failed to run a cult, but low key believes in the Dimensional Merge and wants to become god of his own setting with disciples and shit.

I wonder if John has similar goals? I know he acts just like like the BrOSR idiots do when it comes to being critiqued on his play style.

That's blatantly retarded on John's part, and my gaming group disproves it. Over half of them have at least tried running a game or two on their part, and I've enjoyed a good majority of them. I've had new GMs do great for their first time, and I've had bad campaigns from long running GMs that usually are good.

I clearly agree with Jeffro here, despite disagreeing completely with his take on tabletop in general. While yes, you do get better at running a game over time, the only thing it takes to run a good game is a will to do so, time to spend, and friends to play with.

Also I do look forward to that John Tarnowski thread you're compiling.

It really is telling that there's really only one single person on that podcast that isn't completely unlistenable. How much did Darrick just sit there like a sausage and let the other guys talk? I bet it was a lot.

What John forgets to mention is that wokies still blow the OSR out of the water by an order of magnitude usually, especially compared to his and Darrick's swill. It's almost like OSR only appeals to people in their 40s to 60s who got angy that DnD changed at all or something. Also, like 4/5ths of them don't try to do any outreach to communities to expand and sell their games since grifts are good enough. OSR will die when they do, especially since they keep picking the most retarded online platforms to shill from. First Google+, and then MeWe of all places. Real winners guys.

Also while Darrick is a baked coombrained loser who zones out and sits there like a lump usually, I see a burn of his own there too. Imagine being so boring that you can't even keep interest for a group for 20 minutes.
