For the monitor there's a high chance he goes for a 4k gaming monitor. I wonder if he'll fall for the cheap 60hz ones or if he'll look out for a 120hz+ one. Either way gaming in 4k isn't ideal and comes with a lot of drawback. He also was adament on HDMI being the standard, no wonder he has all theses latency problems.

As for the desk there's a high chance he gets someone to carry and mount it upstairs for him. So I doubt we'll get another mic arm fiasco.

Anyway I'm sure he'll manages to fuck up what would seem to be on paper a normal decent setup.

He seriously assumes random people from all over the world are tuning in for the first time, AND care about his stupid ass reviews. And, he uses it for Thanksgiving and Dollars. Phil may as well get an OLED TV if he wants a 4k screen and likes it far away from him with his stupid setup. 4k monitors are still shit value compared to 1440p. Also, most OLED TVs don't have DP.

(DSP) Throwback to my first ever post in the DSP thread on this very topic! I was under the impression that Phil would never stoop to using a gaming monitor because 1. his gaming TV's built in speakers provide theater-accurate Dolby(r) surround sound by bouncing off the back wall and 2. everyone who uses a monitor and a desk is a sheep who copied it from a popular unnamed streamer.

So I'm getting mixed messages! Do gaming monitors have Dolby(r) surround sound built-in speakers now? Did it become super based to mindlessly copy your streaming setup from some popular streamer (who is, no doubt, a multimillionaire making zero-effort drama content)? Did technology advance to the point that it's possible to put a gaming monitor in your living room? Was he lying in the original rant? Was he playing his "extremely stupid person who acts patronizing about his nonsensical opinions" character for the entertainment of his audience? I have so many questions!

I didn't see anyone mention this - it might not be obvious in the clip (given the odd shape of the weapon) but that is a shotgun he's using there. A full-auto shotgun.

You're overthinking it. Phil very obviously wants to be a respected creator. The ability to more easily scam people may be a benefit to that, but Phil wanting to protect his ego has always been a major influence in how he behaves. I don't think you understand people very well if you don't get why a narcissist lashes out at blows to his pride.

Going in circles, he cares in so far as he believes being "respected" gets him money. He doesn't actually even understand how respect works, he just "needs it" cause it means it gives him tools he can use to beg. Him being denied it means reduced beg potential.

If anything people who don't see this are overthinking it. Phil is a one man cargo cult, the things he demands (like respect) are what he thinks other creators have that gets them money rained on them.

This is one of my favorite old pieces of Phil lore, it was one of the reasons why he insisted on using a camcorder.
To expand, his reasoning was that he had a "great" surround sound system & wanted to capture that for his audience so they get the same experience. There are many things wrong with this:

• The "great" surround sound was being recorded by a camcorder microphone
• Phil would have to manually adjust the audio codec by editing the video before upload (which he never did)
• YouTube couldn't output surround back then (they can now but nobody really uses that function)
• This would require his viewers to also have surround sound equipment themselves - even now most people don't
• Direct capture would accomplish this anyway at a higher quality
• The camcorder looked like shit. Audio is not the most important element in a video
• Having or not having surround sound didn't affect users from watching content on Youtube (for a variety of reasons)

Don't tell DSP I picked up a Acer Nitro 27" 180hz IPS with full HDR 10 support for $108 factory refurb shipped with a 2 year warranty he needs to cough up the big bucks for the playstation brand monitor or two of them.

It would be so easy to fix his setup lol get a nice desk/table - 1 vertical ultrawide for all his chats/stream stuff on mount arm you can move - laptop (no idea why he needs this still) off to other side - big boy gaming monitor right in front of him. Boom you have a competent full time streamer level 2 setup but honestly he wants the excuse of having to look across the room to a TV that is coaxial to hdmi to displayport connected via external streaming box or whatever abomination he runs.

Fun reminder that in every story that Phil has ever told, either the business says that he did nothing wrong & he did everything right OR the business is so incompetent that they did not tell him that he did nothing wrong & he did everything right (dealing with pajeet customer service reps, talking to bots on Google/Amazon, Twitch not saying sorry). Two true outcomes of every interaction with people.

I started my reply intending to disagree and say there's no way Phil is that stupid and that it's just another procedurally generated excuse to put in as little effort as possible in every aspect of his life. But then I realized that I do think he genuinely believed what he was saying in the desk/monitor rant. So maybe he is that stupid?

The thing that confuses me is, if he genuinely holds these extremely stupid beliefs, how do they keep changing? Like if you asked him today he wouldn't say using a camcorder is a superior way to record gameplay. But it used to be, didn't it? I don't get it.

On an individual level, no. But tips are acceptance from his audience. The YouTube audience. His audience that are totally different for every game genre and the thousands that accidentally watch illegal restreamers.
When tips roll in he’s accepted as part of the sussessful group that makes khantent for a living. Other, world famous, khantent creators are his peers. ‘Nobody is above anybody else’.

That sussessful group that Phil considers himself a part of (that was ruined by the evil trolls) isn't close to where he is, though. He thinks he's above Side Scrollers and Lolcow Live who pull in way more money than him. There's also the constant disconnect that Phil pretends he's not funded by a handful of lunatics.

GTg had a great idea when he watched the Dented Zone: replay Phil's historic moments like getting shitcanned from Machinima, his Blip.tv reaction, Panda emasculating him and so on. Would be fun but is probably way too complicated
