"It's not realistic!"
I had a moment of thinking that during the Black Widow movie. Then I reminded myself it's a fucking marvel movie. This is an anime adaptation, crying that something could not done because of realism is admitting you cannot actually excuse the bullshit.

Also did one of those sentient turds dunk on Daredevil, the fucking best black washing of a character Marvel has managed to date with Michael Clarke Duncan? I hope his zombie ass rises and punts them out of their shit stained seat.

Tangentially related Jet's nickname used to be the Black Dog, Indeed an episode focusing on him was called Black Dog Serenade. I look forwards to seeing them squirm around and try to avoid using it because there is no way for a black actor to describe himself as a "black dog" and it sounds like a positive nickname.

my main issues are
a) costumes are butt
b) Cho is too fucking old, defeating the purpose of not hiring Keanu
c) Faye is bland af
d) a new work based on Cowboy Bebop instead of "here is more Cowboy Bebop that takes place before the ending, this happens to be live action"

I don't really have an issue with making Jet a black guy. The dub certainly helped but he struck me as some ashen black-ish guy.
I haven't seen Ed in action, but iirc a while back somebody posted a picture from her instagram of her doing a handstand on a beach in mildly Ed-ish clothing, and she's sorta squat but Ed was a weird noodle person so I can understand not casting too much on model.

I've found out that Yoko Kano is involved with this. That's a plus.

Fun fact, I learned - Ed is based on her.
But is it enough? Yes the music is a big part of the show, but if they get the overall feel of the show wrong, will Yoko Kanno be able to save it? At least it means more music from her.

Apparently the actress for Faye is typical Hollywood douchebag

So apparently the act press playing Faye in the Netflix Cowboy Bebop said that she didn’t even like the source material and mocked fans for being made about the outfit or something.

I hope this series crashes and burns. These shitty live action adaptations fueled by insecure American adults who think animation is only for kids need to keep bombing. Like for fuck's sake I can already tell they'll miss the point of Bebop and make the entire series some super interwoven story when Bebop was mostly episodic and the overarching conflict was more about how the cast is mostly has-beens trying to deal with their current lives (yeah there's the stuff with Vicious but he was not the main focus except for 5 episodes and was more of the conflict that had to do with Spike's past).

Out of all the stupid things tvtropes forum users do, linking to tropes to bolster their argument might be one of the stupidest. Also, the Starfire actress wasn't criticized for being black, she was criticized for looking like a hooker that didn't even have orange paint to make her look alien.

My opinion is that I don't really care about Jet being fully black or Spike being Asian, but you shouldn't harp so much over avoiding muh whitewashing when casting a racially ambiguous character and then cast a latina as a canonically Chinese-Singaporean woman. You just look stupid.

It amazes me that Hollywood doesn't have in contracts that actors/actresses are not allowed to post videos where they try to "OWN DA TROLLS"

There's nothing I find objectionable with Pineda's casting. She's objectively a very pretty woman and has East Asian features that matches Faye. She's correct that it's unrealistic to expect an anime adaptation to be a shot for shot remake of the source material. Audiences and fans alike have quite unanimously reacted negatively to adaptations that try to as closely mirror the original works as possible. For proof of that look at Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen which tried as hard as one could to reasonably copy the comic. Most normal viewers rejected it because for the most part only hardcore fans seek subversive genre content (and it came off pretentious) while fans of the comic book masterpiece were upset by how Snyder altered key details for some brevity and couldn't match the original.

Adaptation does not mean replication. No better example exists than Sam Raimi's two instant classic Spider-Man movies. To this day there will be nerds online who will gripe that Raimi's shouldn't have made a major change from comic lore with Peter Parker's trademark webshooters now being organic. Raimi was right (even if I prefer tech webshooters) because he was making a two hour action-adventure and it would have an unnecessary scene to explain how Peter Parker found/invented his webshooters. Casting wise Raimi chose Tobey Maguire, facially Tobey Maguire bears no resemblance to strong jawed handsome face that Comic Book artists traditionally draw Peter Parker's face. The studio originally seeked the ultimate 90s pretty boy Leonardo DiCaprio to be Peter Parker when James Cameron was attached to it. For the main love interest Kirsten Dunst was cast as Mary Jane Watson. Kirsten Dunst was a very cute girl, but she was never the most beautiful actress, she was a "girl next door" type of attractive, she was nowhere near the level of beauty comic books almost always portray MJ as a red haired Bombshell. And where other directors can and will hide the visual flaws of their actors Raimi purposely chose to make his version of MJ not be gorgeously beautiful. In Spider-Man 1 you can plainly see Kirsten Dunst's imperfect teeth, such a detail could have been hidden but Raimi wanted his MJ not to be physically flawless. After Raimi failed to make a perfect trilogy with the cheesy Spider-Man 3 Sony went onto produce "The Amazing Spider-Man" which was far closer to following the source material and the second movie was such a lousy flick that they didn't even make a 3rd one which is a signifier that even Hollywood lost faith in the franchise.

To get to the point there is no telling if this Cowboy Bebop Live TV Show will be bad just based on initial press photos. I think John Cho as Spike Spiegel is a horrid miscast because Cho simply is too old for the role but that doesn't mean it can't work as long as the new show doesn't pretend that Spike is still supposed to be a young guy. It probably will suck because 90 percent of Netflix's original productions are garbage. But this woman is making a fool of herself for complaining online, let your work speak for itself.

Well at least she's got Faye's bitchy attitude down

Eh, I found that pretty on-point and funny. "Slurped up never to be seen again".

I mean, she's not wrong that it might be hard to pull off this in real life:

But it's not, as numerous cosplayers have proven. And go look up Man-Faye if you don't know who he is, because if a man can do it, these actual costumer designers would have no problem doing this. I understand slight alterations, but they just straight changed the whole thing.

Animation allows stories to go anywhere with the imagination. Live action - even with CGI is limiting.

I love the overall tone and feel of even the animated cowboy bebop movie. Live action will totally change the tone and mood of how it all plays out. I'm not interested at all to see this..plus the "wokeitis " is definitely going to suck any joy from it.
