Ghost in the shell is god damn overrated.

The first Ghost in the Shell movie was like "Akira," fantastically animated, unabashedly adult, in a then popular genre (cyberpunk.) It was a perfect gateway anime for nerds because it had tits, superheroic exploits and philosophical navelgazing. It was also released at a time when anime itself was just starting to go mainstream, but was still unknown enough to give those who watched it the sense that they were in some kind of cool kids club, which is why people have such a nostalgiaboner for it today. Even now, watching it, I recognize its importance as an anime milestone, and love its art and music, but I don't regard it as perfect, and actually find it kind of dull in spots.

As for Cowboy Bebop, I can't imagine Current Year being able to produce anything remotely on par with the original. I don't mind the race-swapping that much (although if Ein isn't a Corgi, I'm going to riot.) But I will be annoyed if the plot is nothing but gay shipping and SJW preachifying. The original Cowboy Bebop was an ensemble cast sit-com/action show that built in homages to all kinds of pop culture genres and figures. The new series is probably going to have Jet (whose last name will be retconned to "Johnson" or something like that because "Black" is too racist,) lecturing the rest of the cast on how much Black Lives Matter. And if it has anything to do with pop culture at all, it will probably be to point out how problematic anything made before 2016 was.

Major point everyone here keeps missing is Oshii's GitS movies were boring pretentious adaptations of Masamune Shirow's GitS manga.
Only the GitS PS1 game cutscenes shows what the original manga version looks like animated. https://youtube.com/watch?v=iTkOvNDhO_Y

Yeah, it's a shame there wasn't an anime using the original manga's art style other than that game.

Ghost in the shell is god damn overrated.

I actually agree with you, I like the movies, I like the SAC tv series, but they're not among my favorites, there's lots of better animes out there both movie wise and TV wise.

I have not read the original manga however.

They could remove the film noir protagonist aspect of his background and instead have him leave the police because of a racist white cop.

The second movie was too pretentious and I wish Oshii would have toned down the amount of 3DCG.

Im realy dont think both of those are that fantastically animated. they are just typical high production value anime movies from that time.

they look so uninspired...
you want realy cool 80s anime? watch dragons heaven. Its not clear if the best comics artist ever directly worked on it, but its very clear that he had influence in it. It looks like one of his GNs animated.

He'll lecture Spike about how STRONG and PROUD xe is (and the correct use of his pronouns), but xe will die a tragic death at the hands of two white criminals riding a hover-pickup truck, when xe goes for a jog.

I mean I know you're joking but...

Such a shame. That episode is one of my favourites and has one of the best songs (imo) of the OST. His story is really tragic and his end even more so. They would really fuck it up with gender bullshit instead of focusing on Faye's empathy for him and hiding he has to do but these fucks can't help themselves and don't understand nuance or good characterisation to save their lives.

They made Vicious white, so it wouldn't surprise me if they make The Red Dragon syndicate a white supremacist gang. Ugh

Yes, but stop and think how amazing it is that once upon a time high production value anime movies in the action/sci fi type genre with that insanely detailed animation were once so common that it could become a cliche, because that's something that has pretty much gone extinct now, making the GITS movies far more valuable than they might have been at the time.

Its Anime for noobs, you can find so many interesting OVAs all over the internet...
You dont even have to go far into the deep end to find them.
okay quality, on youtube...

It's been how many years, now, since the adaptation has been announced, and we have of yet to see any pics of the crew or set to prove they're actually shooting this? Last I remember was they had to put it on hold because Cho got injured on set, but that was a year ago now, wasn't it?

I honestly am just starting to refuse believing this is actually happening because we've seen nothing, and we've heard nothing (like a sneak peek with the soundtrack). I'm thinking the One Piece adaptation is going to come out first at this rate before we even get a behind-the-scenes look at the Cowboy Bebop set.

Sounds like lolcowish snobism to me.
yeah whatever, i like stuff and when i like stuff i will invade every Rabbit hole i can find.
I dont mind people liking babys first anime, but proclaiming it as the greatest ever gets me a bit pissed.
Its like some hiphop fan from the colonies saying that falco isnt the greatest rapper ever... Its a statement from a point of bad information and poor taste,

also watch what i linked to, its great.

Lol ok. There totally wasn't a gay couple fucking that Faye walked in on when looking for Radical Edward and there totally weren't those crossdressing prostitutes in "Jupiter Jazz." Gren was never non-binary, he completely identified as male and even bound his tits, and lived on male dominated Titan, totes not cis you guys.
