I'm seriously telling yall a parody made by a black weeb is a more genuine and heartfelt adaptation because it was clearly made by people who gave a shit about the source material. Vader did a great job portraying Spike and part 3 has actual quality writing that would put Netflix to shame.

Aw yeah, this is the Faye that Kiwi Farms craves.

yes, Elizabeth captured Faye much better than Danielle what's-her-name, and I don't mean just the outfit. In the Netflix version Faye is a strong independent lesbian™ who says "dick" all the time, gets conned by a "mom" and is no longer interested in Spike, because a woman getting her heart broken by a man is offensive and problematic now.

Cowboy Bebop's Mason Alexander Park on Gren's new journey and righting the wrongs of the anime

Just going mask off with "we fixed the anime" after it came out and the negative response. Just like "localizers" who think stuffing memespeak and references to their retarded political obsessions into translations of anime and Japanese videogames makes it better. "We took what these silly nips did and improved on it."

Well, at least the transactor was level headed about it and didn't completely shit all over how the original character was presented. Felt like the reporter was baiting to get that kind of response, as usual.

On my quest to find better quality scans of the artbooks and more movie content, I came across these anime guides: https://archive.org/details/CowboyBebopAnimeGuide1/page/n43/mode/2up
Spike is 27, Faye is 23, Jet is 36.

Lmao what
They made his character worse, even as I kindly ignore the troonery, they reduced Gren from an actual person with a day in the limelight to some background bar staff who has no impact on the plot or any of the main cast whatsoever. I sat through the whole fucking thing yesterday, he does nothing in all ten episodes of runtime.

Only in a post-modern world could think reducing a war vet who was imprisoned on false charges and force fed HRT to a tranny hooker is 'fixing' things. What's next, Alan Turing was a woman the entire time?

That... was suprisingly good. I mean, not much in the way of sets but all of the actors had the mannerisms of their characters spot on. Spike here is way more close than in the show. Expressions are perfect. Faye and Jet pretty close as well. I lol'd when Jet checked to see if the guy he'd knocked out was okay. "Probably okay." Ed, too.

Weird looking 11 year old. (She's got the character down pat, though!)

The kid's acting is fucking atrocious. The writing is terrible, the angles and everything is even worse, but holy shit, she fucking sucks at acting. She's trying her best, so she's already leages better than this wannabe Spike, but for fuck's sake, trying to emulate Ed's weirdness in this way is just fucking mind melting.

Her acting doesn't seem that good but you nailed it when you said everything else is worse. Having had a very tangential exposure to film and theatre, the difference these things make to even the best actors cannot be overstated. It's also weirdly stilted to see her emulate the anime character so closely. It's like copying the outward form without the inner element that produced it. When Ed waves her arms around you feel it's because she's visualizing some weird grand idea in her head and can't contain it. Here it's just... copying movements. The directing is the true villain here, though.

Is there a single character they didn't completely trashed?

I mean, in terms of casting at least, Jet is fine. There's nothing particular in his background or appearance that particularly required him to be White. The actor has the look fairly well. Contrast that with the Spike actor (way too old), the Ed actress (way too old) and Faye (really should be Chinese, tbh).

Asimov and Ein? Asimov and Katarina get a little bit trashed because of how the episode structure was rewritten but by himself I think they were well casted and their costumes were accurate.

Vicious on the other hand. I feel bad for his actor, who looked like he had fun with it, but he just doesn’t look right. There’s a scene where you can see his dark chest hair when he’s shirtless and it makes it seem like Vicious a little bitch enough to go to a salon to get bleached regularly.

In terms of casting, Jet is good since the actor did his best even if the script is horrible. Hell if for some reason they do another live action Cowboy Bebop that’s actually good or make a new anime movie, he’d be a good pick since he sounds like the original.

I guess I could also say Asimov even if his episode is shit. Ed is in a neutral territory since while their performance is cringe, the issue with Ed in live action is that their level of eccentricity can only really work in animation.

I'll say no to that. Maybe Ein, but even then they turn him into a dog cyborg with eye implants that Le Fou mindhacks in the 8th episode.

If a character doesnt get ruined by "improved" backstory, the bad acting, or bad jokes, or genderbending, or bad effects will get him. All subtlety is fucking gone, they keep spelling out what everyone is feeling and how tragic their backstories are. Its not enough to know Spike and Vicious were bros in the past, now we need a 50 minute flashback episode for that.

One of the things that actually surprised me was that they didnt completely ruin the Betamax scene in Speak Like a Child. Daniella Pineda is totally miscast as Faye, but she does an alright job in this scene. Child actress is bad and has terrible wig, but the dialogue is decent. What fucking sucks is that it mainly exists now to set up Season 2 plot points, with Faye's mother possibly making an appearence somehow.

Decided to rewatch the anime since this thread has been so active lately. I watched the Gren episode last night and was curious is there any commentary anywhere by the author or director or anyone as to why they decided to take that route with Gren in the first place? I'd be interested to know what the thinking was behind giving the character that specific of a trait.

And even then, they had to have only treated this scene with some respect simply because it's about Faye.

I hope they don't try to "adapt" the movie or try to cram movie characters and plot points into the show. Can you imagine John Cho delivering anything from this scene from the fight choreography to the flirting? They wouldn't even get Electra right because of body positivity or whatever the fuck reason they gave for casting Faye as some chunky cunt.
