What puzzles me about the casting choice for Spike is why the usual suspects and blue checkmarks on Twitter aren't whining about Jewish erasure by Netflix, replacing one of the only Jewish characters in anime with an asaian guy.

It’s because there is the possibility that Spike actually is Asian in the source material

But I think Fayes casting would be far more offensive since they whitewashed her and made her a generic action girl.

I doubt they think Faye's casting is offensive, much to the contrary.

I might make a spergpost later about how awful strong female character are designed in modern media to elaborate but the punk action girl who is smarter and stronger than her male colleagues by merit of them being written to be stupid is all the craze now. That's why they've likely boiled away all of Faye Valentine the character for their own Rey Palpatine, and why I fear they have fucked Julia up as well.

With how the show seems to have a tone similar to the MCU/Scott Pilgrim, I won't be surprised if Julia is a quippy action girl.

Spike is Asian. Shinichiro Watanabe said so, he only picked Spike's name because he thought it sounded cool. I posted this like 2 times already, read the thread, guys.

You’re absolutely right.

Instead of John Cho, they should have replaced him with him:

I've been thinking and I feel the positive reception to this is because Cowboy Bebop is the only western live action anime adaptation (besides Speed Racer) that seems to actually embrace it's anime origins instead of trying to be completely different (i.e. Dragonball Evolution) or openly missing the point of the source material (Deathflix). It's really bad but I can see why people seem to like it especially with how there were extremely low expectations for this so embracing the source material is just exceeding expectations to some people.
there was Guyver 2 Dark Hero, too

Even if the music is recycled, it's probably the best feature of this.

I really dislike the humor and I think that's the worst thing about this more than anything especially since they are adding humor to the Pierrot episode it seems which doesn't work since that was meant to be more disturbing.

Faye surprisingly seems to retain some of her con-artist traits based on the trailer, so it looks like it's just a poor replication of the original. But the promo materials for this shit are much worse than this generic trailer.

The Cinematography isn't quite interesting and the special effects are impressive but common for TV nowadays.

tl;dr The trailer is mediocre but shows how bad the humor is but it's certainly better than the teaser which isn't saying much.
