I just think it's that Jet just comes across as black. He's a bit ambiguous physically, but you could see him as a black dude.

Spike and Faye have either a different ethnicity amongst the fanbase or an established canon one.
And his English VA, Beau Billingslea, is black. I could give it a pass in comparison to Gren. I am always fine with non-white characters voicing white characters and vice-versa. The world of voice acting is kinda like the Wild West until…certain entities in Hollywood…start enforcing otherwise.

He also voiced the Fourth Raikage in Naruto.
Part of the problem with this show, as seen with the live-action OP, is that it's an adaptation of an adaptation. The original OP sequence was meant to evoke the visuals of 50s and 60s era jazz album art. Changing all of the English text to Japanese is just part of losing that connection. It's similar to the live action GitS film where they recreate a lot of the iconic imagery from the 1995 feature film without understanding what made them visually interesting in the first place. What we've seen of this CB adaptation is that the makers do not understand what the original series was going for at all.
That’s part of the problem with adaptations in general.

For example, in the original GitS, that water fight scene the Major had and the events after it showed that the guy she beat up was fucked over because his older memories were erased in favor of new ones (or was it the other way around? I didn’t rewatch yet.). In the live-action version, they just have some weird contraption on him and it’s just swiped over.

This adaptation might just do more of the same.
Kind of stings that Steve Blum was more known for his political opinions than his voice acting. He was a big talent for voiceovers in his heyday.
He still is a big talent. His voice is very versatile and I love his work and dedication. His IMDB page is loaded with credits. It’s just that people don’t really talk about him much now that the voiceover scene is bloated. Troy Baker is probably suffering the same fate right now. The problem is that social media and the Internet exist. Because of that, they can spout their dumbass partisan shit to the world and influence many of the people around them.

It has that same annoyingly quippy sheen as Guardians of The Galaxy. Holy shit you couldn't go further off than this
The day the mcu implodes into the shadow realm, is the day I Dance for a fucking week. I’m so fucking tired of other companies ripping from them purely because they make the most money! Cowboy bebop had its funny moments, but it was a serious drama for the most part and if this teaser is any indication how the tone will be. Than it’s gonna be bad news for people that actually liked this show and watched it multiple times. but, zoomers & millennials that are only anime fans because it’s mainstream will eat it up easily.

I'm laughing at how terrible this is going to be.

This literally looks like Cowboy Bebop but MCU where everyone is quipping and shit. Like my god the acting for everyone is bad but I can tell it's more that the material and direction the actors were given is just trash. Faye acts like a generic action girl while Jet is generic uptight straight man, and Spike was just generic cool guy.

Also Vicious is cringe and the music choices are all bad especially during Vicious' sequence where they play this which doesn't fit

I hate that this series is just recycling the anime's soundtrack.

Months ago, Netflix boasted that they "got Yoko Kanno back to do this show." To me, that implies that they got Yoko Kanno to do a whole new soundtrack, yes? Nah, instead they're going the cheap and lazy route by recycling the anime's soundtrack. No one is denying how iconic the anime's soundtrack is (it's seriously one of the best soundtracks of all time), but it's a soundtrack that was specifically made for the anime, and not for this show ... So it sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't work for me at all. They couldn't even hire a new jazz band to cover these songs?

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (my favorite of the MonsterVerse movies; don't care what the haters say), did use the iconic Ifukube theme ... But it was Bear McCreary doing his own version of it ... And McCreary's version of it rocks.

If Netflix was going to involve Yoko Kanno's work without her creating new music altogether, then they should have hired someone to cover these iconic themes to give them some new life or something.

Yeah like it would've been better to have new music that fits this show or at least do covers of the soundtrack that could work.

This series really just doesn't work and it looks like Jet may be the only character who is well acted since Cho and Faye's actor don't feel like Spike or Faye but "Cool guy" and "Action girl"

I am so glad this is so overtly idiotic and cringey that maybe even the biggest "trigger the nerds" contrarians can't defend it.
I expected something like this when I saw the CG shot of the ship flying off in the intro when they showed it off & it had garbage A E S T H E T I C colors but even I didn't expect them to miss the mark this bad. Cause when I think of Cowboy Bebop, among other issues, I think of Whedonesque banter exchanges.

It really is an all time "WHO IS THIS FOR?" with the MCU-style dialogue to alienate the fans of the show and terrible camera work and filters. Everyone looks too old and stiff and to top it off they're releasing a shitty American comic book tie in that no one will buy, published via Titan Comics and thrown to some hack whose claim to "fame" is some Blade Runner comic that no one talks about. Just money laundering everywhere.

It just looks so cheap and nasty, very rushed, and the "jokes", along with their timing and delivery, are almost perfectly emulating a ChannelAwesome sketch. I half-expected it to end with Doug Walker popping up to say he hopes we enjoyed their Cowboy Bebop parody sketch, and to tune in for more wacky remake hijinks in the next episode of Demo Reel.

(Though to be fair, Champloo isn't that great but a live action remake will make it look like the best thing ever given the quality of Netflix Bebop)
Champloo is a solid series but it's definitely not nearly as good as Bebop.

lmao, that's a great burn.
