Haven't smoked in a while but my usual is Romeo y Julieta. They're not crazy expensive and they are, at least in my opinion, right in the middle. Not too weak, not too strong. I get the red ones, Churchill. I think the red is Dominican and the Blue is Nicaraguan but I might be getting that backwards. It's been a long time since I've bought a full box of them so I just remember them by color now. Come to think of it I'm going to try to get some sticks tomorrow. I think the longest cigar I ever smoked was like twice the length of a Churchill. I might be misremembering but that's what I thought it was. I literally went into the store and was like "hey give me the longest cigar you got" and they handed me this thing. I walked around the city, drunk, and just smoked it. I must've looked like a douche but I had fun. Cigars are fun.

I actually did try this with one of my stogies and it really does effect it. It changes that smooth rich taste to just being a swisher sweet dry feeling. I was thinking on this though, what if you don’t do the humidifier but you instead boil some water and put a net over the pot (maybe the lid to to keep the moisture condensed) to bring the cigar back to life? I might try that next time.
BTW it turns out that the humidity where I live just happens to be a natural humidor.

I don't remember if there's a pipe thread but I smoked my pipe for the first time today.

This thing had given me nothing but fits since I bought it at least a year ago, and I would feel resentment just at the idea of trying to use it. Today I saw a rainbow over my apartment and I wanted to sit and look at it, though the rainbow had pretty much disappeared in fading light as soon as I got back out there. But while fiddling with this thing, cursing it, I try for the first time unscrewing this piece of brass crap off of the stem.

It comes off.

This, I think, is supposed to be a "filter." Well, the filter was absolutely clogged with filth, but even after cleaning it it made no difference; I did later try it. Without the filter, though, the pipe drew easily. I had read/watched guides, guides by pretentious wankers that drone on and on about how if you do not pack it perfectly your pipe will not work, and this thing was basically effortless to use as soon as the fucking filter was removed. I had to suck on it like I was sucking a golf ball through a garden hose before, and after even the lightest draw would fill the whole mouth with smoke and the lightest puff made the bowl flare up.

At the end of it all (smoking three bowls, I think), I did find I liked it. I wanted to use the pipe as an alternative to cigars. Short, cheap, less damaging. Despite not being a cigar load, it still felt like a buzz by the end and felt very relaxing in a similar way as a pipe, and with less caustic smoke in my face and less smell. I could potentially see myself smoking it in the morning before work, something I could not do with a cigar for the smell alone.

I love Deadwoods infused cigars, particularly the Yummy Bitches line. I found one that was new to me and quite enjoyable.

Light, sweet, tasty, I usually really don’t like flavored cigars but Deadwoods does it really well. I also found a tin of mini Sweet Janes that are genuinely just a dessert. It’s why I like this line, whatever it is they do they pick the right flavors to mesh with the tobacco and it all compliments itself, especially with a black coffee.

I tend towards cigarillos and smaller cigars because frankly, while I enjoy them, there’s only so much smoking I can take before I stop enjoying it.
My favorite from this line is still the Leather Rose, but overall they’re all good.
And this is a side tangent, but the best cigar I ever had was this one Cuban one when I was in Vietnam. I found a cigar lounge in a back alley and got my hands on one the owner had in a hidden, locked humidor that was so aged under proper conditions the wrapper was solid gold. The American dollar travels far there, and it was so delicious and complex and rich and smooth. It was a different level to anything else I’ve ever smoked, and I don’t even know what it was.

Is there an affordable tobacco pipe and tobacco you recommend for a newbies in the pipe game?
Just look into estate briar pipes on ebay and you'll get a cheap one eventually. And a proper brick and mortar tobacco shop will have plenty of pipe tobacco for sale both in tins and by the ounce. C&D has a lot of cheap blends.

I dunno, any random-ass tobacco out of a drug store. Virginia blend is a typical entry level tobacco since it's sweet (high sugar content in the leaf). Pipe tobacco is basically free in the same way black coffee is. It's insanely cheap to the point I wouldn't even think of it as costing money to smoke a bowl (whereas cigarettes are like 50 cents each).

Just buy a Missouri Meerschaum corncob pipe off of the Internet. They're easier to clean, you actually don't clean the gunk off the inside (it seasons it, makes it better), but it will eventually stop working (corncobs are disposable). I've used mine very intensely for over a month and it still hasn't died. You'll need a pipe multi-tool for it (at least a tamper). Pipe smoking has a problem in that there has to be enough space between the flakes for it to get air but not so much it doesn't make contact to transfer the flame. It's not hard at all, despite what pissers making YouTube videos say, but it's why you tamp (lightly tap it down frequently) as you smoke; the burning tobacco tends to kind of lift like a bread baking and has to be compacted back.

Know that some of your pipe tobacco in any given blend is likely grown by Zimbabwe, ie Worst Rhodesia. It is partaking of a centuries long trend of buckbreaking on both sides of the Atlantic.

Which websites do you order from if you can't find specific cigars locally? I don't want to go with the first one that comes up in search, rather somewhere one of you feel is reputable and has a good value.

I mainly smoke these Montecristos. Every Father's Day I would send my father these, and then I found out one visit that he was stashing them all in the drawers in his office, unopened. I implored him to actually try it, and he cut one and crushed the tobacco into his pipe and smoked it that way. Then he told me it was good, and never touched them again.

Cigars International sells very cheap bulk cigars. It's the only reason I smoke. My exposure to cigars was having a friend in college bring me back one from Cuba, then doing the giggly pimply young boy-man thing of buying cigars every now and then and feeling like a rascal until I got bored of it. Then in grad school I got a promotional deal in the mail that was meant for someone else. I smoked one a semester, sometimes skipping, until one semester I just started smoking them regularly.

I can, and this is late but adding onto what I told @Squanto Ari, quantify it.
A cigarette is forty cents.
A bowl of pipe tobacco is seven cents and lasts a half hour. The bag itself can provide, for my consumption, a season of smoking for about $17.
The cigars I smoke (Po Boy sampler, Churchill sized, some of them suck) are $2. I pay no attention to their humidity; I live in a natural humidor.

Compared to alcohol I'm saving a fortune (that was like $1.00 a day) and compared to cigarettes I'd be saving, like, $4 to $5 (most smokers smoke a half pack a day). Until you get Crohn's disease or have to whiten your teeth. I have to go in for a colonoscopy. I found I had three symptoms that all happened to line up with Crohn's and that nicotine specifically can apparently activate it like weed, infamously now, does schizophrenia. If I have it I'll have to give up smoking. I smoked the rest of my Churchills and didn't order replacements already.

I recently learned the final nail in the coffin of the pretentious pipe lighting expert twats. I just started jamming that shit down in there as tight as possible with my tamper and it burns extremely cleanly now.
