UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Here's some screencaps from that one livestream.

Seemed to be a few hundred people there at least. Couldn't really hear anything other than this woman speaking.

Collapsed after only about 10 minutes of burning or so.

The woman is doing such a fucking woman moment half the time. It's like being back in school and stuck on an all girls table again. Please just shut the fuck up.

Fully collapsed.

Woman is at least 50m away or so and still too hot from the radiant heat. Fire there is about as high as a house, so 5m or so.

Stream cuts out because the woman's phone got too hot. Stream restarts and is pointed down the road. Several people shouting at the psni and blocking them off. Rest of the stream is honestly just nothing. It's just the remains burning. Which yea sure it looks pretty but that's about it. She cuts the stream off when it's still 3-4m tall fire and there's still a decent amount of people there. Apparently the police just fucked off. Apparently the firemen were called but they didn't show up. So as it would have been aside from a day earlier.

When he referred to Dunblane as "one murder" I knew that the media would be crawling all over him for it. I don't get why the fuck he didn't just say "one mass shooting." He needs to watch what he fucking says in interviews and on podcasts, because between this and his anti-ethno-nationalist slip of the tongue, he's going to risk alienating a lot of people on both sides. As a gun owner myself, I want more gun rights in the UK, but you need to approach things like this with honesty or it makes us all look retarded and untrustworthy.

If you're a gun owner in this country, you know what Dunblane was, and you know that it's been used as a means to terrorise the public about the concept of firearms ownership for decades. Everyone knows that you have to be delicate around this one specific event because it was a fucking tragedy that the government amplified tenfold to traumatise people in order to justify pushing through a gun ban with 0 push-back.

The correct approach here would have been to refer to it as what it is, but then proceed to criticise the police and licensing system of the time period for ignoring all of the warning signs the perpetrator of the shooting raised in the lead up to the event. Dunblane largely happened because the police couldn't be bothered doing the paperwork to revoke the firearms license of a literal gay paedophile who was an obvious ticking timebomb.

Because there's been a decades-long psyop carried out on the British public in regards to firearms, if you want them to warm up to the concept of gun ownership, it's going to have to be done in a very specific and step-by-step sort of way. He came across really badly in this part of the interview IMO.

All of the retards on X saying "he meant one event" need their head checked - He had opportunity to correct himself, but he didn't. I like Restore, and I like Lowe as well for the mostpart, but he needs tard-wrangling so he doesn't destroy what we've built.

It’s rare I approve of anything the filthy fucking prods do in the north, but fair play to the staunch fuckers on this.

God I wish Sinn Fein would get a bloody grip. This whole pro-immigrant thing ‘because we were colonised’ is pathetic. Can’t be a nationalist party if you don’t stand up for your nation, and nation is more than a lump of rock acting as a draught excluder for the U.K.

They don't love their people or care for their nation because they're not nationalists and they never were, only ever useful idiots for our enemies which is why Gadhafi gave them all that semtex in the first place. The skinsuit of the legacy of the Easter Rising is a pretty one which is why parasites will continue to strut about wearing it.
