UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I wonder if Ann's murder is connected to the current Charlie Kirk trial.

Burnham of course has been talking about how Labour got Gaza wrong, by which he means not supporting Palestine Hamas more. I will not post any articles, they've all done some on it but it's a good idea of what route he plans to take.
Burnham is ultimately in bed with Labour Friends of Israel (see his hires), he mentions 'stricter sanctions' and 'doing better'. IMHO he is paying lip service to win back younger voters, and using his LFI connections to reassure Jewish/Israeli ''community leaders'' that the Labour government will not ''abandon them''; or he is moving to the same politically safe 'two state solution' that the Green party officially holds (while also holding the belief that borders should not exist at all, kind of contradicting themselves). The Palestine issue is ultimately a 'does a group have a right to a homeland' and 'can a government replace a people' issue, which is an incredibly risky play for a man in charge of the UK right now.
oh eta: the uk (and ireland) have successfully imported iranians who chimp out and attack muslims (london, and see the recent dublin 'prayer hall' fire), so it's an incredibly fucking dangerous game to play. israel/palestine is the worst fucking topic we could have adopted into our politics as it belongs to non-western groups who do not have the same hang ups about political violence as the west, and it is solely a nationalist (self-determination) and replacement issue. the only way to win is to not play

Police say it isn't political or terror-motivated. So, naturally, it's either one or both.

My bet is it's a sad, pathetic little 'activist' who thinks killing old women is somehow morally righteous.

Although I heavily disagreed on many of her policies, she pushed for the right to Free Speech, which is why I'm deeply saddened to hear of not only her passing, but likely her murder too.

Huge bonfire in Sandy Row, Belfast, adorned with some extremely interesting flags. (X) 'Charlie Kirk, no surrender' is fucking hysterical, I wonder how many of these are serious and how many are nutcase ulstermen taking the piss and being as 'vile' as they can be. 'We Love Israel' is another standout.

A banner featuring Stephen Nolan and the now infamous “F*** you and your ma” quote has been hung on a bonfire in Sandy Row.
The banner portrays the BBC man’s face alongside the now famous slogan, which was shouted at Nolan during his TV show Peelers by Catholic UDA drug dealer Jackie Farrell.

Alongside it is a poster of assassinated right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk.
It states: “No Surrender - 1993-2025”.
Below it is an Israeli flag that also reads: “We love Israel - Never give up

Clips of Jackie Farrell’s outbursts on Peelers were viewed hundreds of thousands of times on social media.
The drug dealer was recently revelling in her newfound notoriety, telling Sunday Life reporters she didn’t care about being arrested in front of BBC cameras at the Balmoral Hotel.

The 44-year-old was unashamed of her drunken antics and boasted of her exploits online.
She shared clips on social media of her appearance on the show, showing her seemingly under the influence, and taking a drunken tumble down the stairs of the west Belfast hotel while shouting abuse at police.

Following the arrest she pleaded guilty to assault and disorderly behaviour.
