First: Shame on everyone who gave YYS Islamic Content ratings for disagreement. Jesus.
Now then.
When did this happen? She refers to herself as a woman, as most transwomen do. She hasn't publically acknowledged her status as cis or trans in years from what I've seen.
Other than
on Tumblr, Susan's Place, and several others where she did acknowledge her trans status, Brianna Wu
generally refuses to comment on it. And that's fine, in a vacuum; it matters little to me whether she does or not when the evidence is irrefutable. As I wrote on the Wiki about this (emphasis mine):
Lolcow Wiki dijo:
For the sake of brevity and out of respect to Brianna herself, this Wiki will not get into theorycraft as to reasons Brianna may or may not have had for claiming to have been born a woman, her personal reasons for transitioning, et al. There are two very specific parts of Wu's past and transgendered status that this Wiki will choose to focus on: the fact that she is, in fact, transgendered, and the fact that she claims to have been born a woman. Likewise, it will not get into the reasons she may or may not have had for denying her relationship to her biological parents.
There are two critical reasons these must be addressed in this article, and by this wiki:
- The second is the issue of Wu's claims to have always been a woman. Wu's problem is that, rather like Rachel Dolezal (the disgraced NAACP head who turned out to have actually been a white woman and completely fabricated her own past)[4] and Andrea Smith (a similarly-disgraced American Indian scholar who has for years claimed to be Cherokee despite being white)[5], Brianna Wu has repeatedly claimed to have had the various struggles one has as a woman - when this is patently false.
If she wishes to be considered a woman now that she has transitioned, then fair enough -
Gender Dysphoria is a very real medical condition after all - but it is highly disingenuous for Brianna Wu to lie about her past, her experiences, and her identity, claiming considerable experience growing up as a woman when there is irrefutable evidence directly contradicting her claims.
Wu claiming that she was born a woman and as such has a lifetime of experience as a woman when it comes to going on about her own personal victimhood and issues is an ongoing meme.
Pretty much everyone knows Wu is trans. Thing is, whilst Wu dances on the issue - never outright denying it if possible - she constantly, albeit indirectly - constantly chimes in that she, as a woman, has experiences relevant to all women. From her Wikipedia page to her articles on the Guardian, from
Brianna Wu
claims to have been born a woman in her Wikipedia page, and she constantly uses her own subjective "lifetime experience" as examples of how "women in tech are marginalized." Ignoring for a moment that all evidence contradicts this and Wu
gives rise to the belief of most programmers and developers that Social Justice wants to use its in-roads to gain a foothold in tech without any legitimate training, Wu constantly claims that her struggles are the same struggles all women must face. Especially women in tech!
By her own words:
Brianna Wu dijo:
Brianna Wu does this even when throwing allies under the bus:
The issue with Wu doing this isn't really anything
I particularly give a shit about, but it
is important for anyone who analyzes Wu to pick up on: Wu is
infamous for claiming credentials she flat-out doesn't have. She claimed
SOCCON was a success when it wasn't, she claimed to
have patents, degrees, and more she doesn't, and, in this same vein, her claiming to be a legit woman is yet one more example of something she claims to be and isn't. Doubtless, she has some internal justification for all this - her running meme that Trangender women are still women so none of the above matters is a pretty common defense, and to some degree, I even agree with that, but the fact that Wu is a pathological liar and self-aggrandizer means that anything she says
cannot be taken at face value until analyzed further.
That's the general relevance, IMHO.
Not at all. Seeing as how it's clearly something Flynt is ashamed of and ambivalent about, I'd be impressed that a modicum of reality had managed to penetrate that thick shell of fantasy which he surrounds himself with.
Hell, he admits his loyalty to the world of unreality proudly. From the "choose your character" piece:
"I grew up in Mississippi, but there was little I could relate to in the small-town worries of whose daughter was in which beauty pageant.
Final Fantasy’s Terra, an
esper raised by humans, had an internal conflict that rang fiercely true to me. Reality never stood a chance."
I don't see this as something worthy of kudos, particularly not for someone so eager to tell everyone else how to live their lives and what to think.
You missed the point of the drug addict analogy: the story you know best is surely your own, right? If it's not something to be ashamed of, and your casually throwing around the idea that pronoun mistakes, or misgendering a Metroid character, are "literally killing" people....
....don't you think you might mention your own connection to the topic?
Q-Bert, chill out. Seriously. I don't disagree with you, but there's no need to be heavy-handed here: YYS has valid analysis to give and is trying to promote dialogue. The dude already
dug up the critical EIN info on Giant SpaceKat Studios, and how it's a subsidiary of Chessboard Holdings, LLC. He's been a credit to thread and we should take the opportunity to analyze what he brings to the table.
Christ this thread is shit. At this point it seems to be nothing but GamerGate spastics bitching about everything Wu does.
Wu is a dumbass, not a fucking Bond villain. Everything she does isn't part of a grand conspiracy to destroy True and Honest gamers. People are saying stuff like "Wu's house of cards" ironically, like he's sitting in some shadowy underground bunker tweeting stupid shit.
Please calm the fuck down.
I could direct you to the section a bit earlier: The most entertaining reveal recently is that Holiday is Wu's Sonichu and by her own admission something she's wanted since she was eight. An ongoing joke, since this thread started, was that Brianna Wu is essentially Chris with a budget; there is nothing that gives credence to that like
Revolution 60.
