And I dunno, I don't have any personal experience as a transgender, being born a straight white devil, but I would honestly think the main cause for suicide in transgender circles would be for people like myself to actually believe that Brianna Wu is what all transgender people aspire to be.

The main reason transgender people commit suicide is because they lack the resources and support needed to transition. An absurdly privileged person like Wu is the last person who should talk about trans suicides.

Average "lifespan" of Trans people (lifespan since birth or post tranny, I dont know, we'll assume birth): Average Lifespan of everyone.
Most murdered population in the US by %: Young, black males, mostly by other young, black males.
Poverty can be seen as some type of epidemic, people born into it usually don't escape, but it isn't really growing outside of areas that are high risk anyway. These areas are typically places where a company or business employs a large population of the residents and then that company goes under or gets bought out.

With access to healthcare, everyone gets better!

Think about it like this.

If 1 man in 100 is murdered, that's 1%.

If 1 tranny out of 10 is murdered, that's 10% and much more horrible because they are killed in such higher numbers!!

Like the random "40-60% of trans people commit suicide" thing - totally misleading because gender dysphoria generally has comorbidity with depression and anxiety which are bigger contributors to suicide. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of hardships transgender people suffer from public misconceptions to fear-mongering from politicians. But there's always an asterisk beside any number that get tossed about. Even then, almost always Brianna and her friends are only referring to transwomen since they're the hot new thing, and transmen are evil oppressors and who cares that they suffer more violence and sexual assaults anyway since theyr'e men?

It's obvious Brianna Wu's talking points are misleading and self serving and she knows it as well as we do. This all ties in with the "women aren't hired in STEM" argument because... yet again, less women apply for STEM positions after decades of going into other career fields and people like Wu telling them they'll never be hired.

I'm planning on watch this when I get the time, but if the show follows the comic, then Jessica Jones is an alcoholic former superhero that was manipulated by the Purple Man (not the FNaF one, different one) into doing certain... questionable things, and to feel anything has drunken violent anal sex with Luke "Sweet Christmas!" Cage.

Now if that ain't a positive role model, I dunno what is. As always, I look forward to you back pedaling like a motherfucker when Anita comes rattling in on the hatemobile.

It is pretty funny that she holds her up as some kind of positive trope. As far as I understand, the character is a sort of female Constantine, minus the religious stuff. Portraying a woman as a violent, hateful drunk with a shadowy past and a history of abuse is hardly what I'd call progressive. In addition, if I recall the comics correctly, it's often implied that we should feel sorry for her as a victim of cruel circumstances beyond her control. This seems to fly in the face of Wu's insistence that all women be portrayed as empowered superhumans with limitless agency and full control of their lives.
So which is it, Johnny? Do you want interesting, dynamic characters or do you want a feminine Übermensch? Because the sad thing about an infalliable character is that they're painfully boring (see "Everything with Superman ever").
