quick reminder that dragon age inquisition won GOTY.

which reminds me, with all the faggotry now I can't wait how bioware is gonna reply to larian stepping in on their turf writing for manchildren and fujos. I fully expect in dreadwolf walking in on a random erect qunari dick starts an unskippable cutscene where you have to suck it in POV, complete with bioware's animation talent which is below the average SFM modder...
And how heckin' bad and not cool Tevinter empire is. They heckin' bad guys like Thanos and not cool bad guys like Loki.

Caring about critic score is pretty lol. User score is pretty high ATM. Not like that matters either.

Only hit lvl 4 and killed spider boss. Sucks I can only play on a laptop at work during downtime, just don't get any time at home on the PC.

Game is still pretty fun. Just wish I could enjoy it better.

You expecting basedness from r*ddit? Also, there's an option to attack during the dialogue. So you can go on fag killing spree for all your heart's desire
No, I am expressing concern that the apparent financial success of this rather generic fantasy adventure will be attributed to this kind of shit and subsequently pivot the entire industry towards BLACK LESBIAN GAY CUNTBOY GNOMES WITH VITILIGO WHO ARE JUST LIKE ME UWU instead of, you know, games with proficient writing, compelling characters and elaborate world-building.

BG3 is not good. It is a passable time-killer at best where you can once or twice smirk at the oh so zany unique dialogue options. I am old enough to remember the writing in, say, Planescape: Torment, and seeing people praise BG3 as the next coming of grilled cheese makes me lose hope in humanity. This is not a success story that AAA-industry, or game industry in general, should be taking as an example.

You know what gives this game heart and soul? EXTREME DIVERSITY.

Redditors are so easy to please. BG3 has a pretty boring group of characters compared to other RPGs. 90% of all party members personality is based around weird sex stuff but wow some of them are black and gay so it doesn't matter. People like that are the reason so much slop seems to always make a lot of money.
So would you guys say that the game is deserving of its 97 score on Metacritic, and the multiple predictions for it being GOTY?
Its the best game this year but that says more about modern games then it does about Baldur's Gate 3 I think.

Why does this exist? Why? Guess they wanted to please the Japanese.

Act I maybe deserves a score in the 90+ something range, most people leaving reviews are still in the honeymoon phase of doing Act I and haven't realized how frontloaded this game is, Act II has like half the content of the first act (still good though) and Act III is the Larian special: being busted as fuck with bugs and (obvious) cut content up the ass, i give this game a final verdict of a 7.5 because the last act does a really spectacular job of shitting the bed, for how good the game starts it ends just as badly.

that score can easily get bumped up with an Enhanced Edition, but the current raving about this game is completely unwarranted considering it still falls apart at Cyberpunk/Kingmaker levels at the end.

(plus they committed an RPG cardinal sin by not having any closure for your companions, no last talk at camp? no ending sequences or slides? what the fuck Larian, am i supposed to guess what happened to them? granted i've come to dislike most of them over the course of the game so i can't be too peeved but still).

That's because none of them have ever played an old school cRPG. Hell, BG3 may even be their first cRPG.

Check out this idle:

Why the hell is he holding the blade part with his right hand? Is this really the proper carry technique for a two-handed sword?
All swords have an unsharpened part at the base of the blade called the ricasso. In very long two handed swords like zweihänders it was often wrapped in leather. The ricasso is there to both change where the blade is balanced (since the unsharpened parts of the blade are slightly heavier than the sharpened part, relatively speaking) and it's used in half-swording, or gripping the blade with one of your hands so you can use the sword like a spear. It's also why you often see hooks right after the ricasso on very long two handed blades, they're parrying hooks that basically function like another guard.

That is one of my biggest peeves. In all CRPG's like the OG Baldur's Gate and other D&D games they almost always have an ending slide for your companions. There isn't any here. You just get one ending scene with your love interest and that is it. The ending feels lackluster given how the opening was. Still better then Mass Effect 3 though. All in all I give the game a 7.5 too. It is a good game just not the masterpiece the shills and fanboys keep saying it is. Hopefully the honeymoon phase will be over once Starfield comes out and people can actually look at the game with a more critical lens.

Honestly, not really. It is a good game but being rated higher then Baldur's Gate 1 and 2? No way. While I would like to see a CRPG win GOTY, I honestly don't think it will. Tears of the Kingdom will probably get it. If not Nintendo Todd Howard will probably get another GOTY under his belt. Larian did a lot to build up hype and fanfare for this game but they fail to estimate the hype and fanbase that Bethesda has when it comes to their titles. Which is why I say Baldur's Gate 3 will be forgotten next month when Starfield comes out. Starfield will have a more dedicated fanbase and modding community behind it which will help Starfield in terms of replayablity.
Why did you think they moved the release date up to not compete with Starfield? Larian knows they can't compete with the giga autists that makes up Bethesda games fanbase.
Act III is the Larian special: being busted as fuck with bugs and (obvious) cut content up the ass, i give this game a final verdict of a 7.5 because the last act does a really spectacular job of shitting the bed, for how good the game starts it ends just as badly.
I knew it. Larian always fucking drops the ball when it comes to ending their game. There's going to be another Definitive Edition to just patch up the shitty Act 3 again isn't it? (DOS2 released in a similarly shitty state where fucking Arx was bare and the Nameless Isle was barely passable.)

I just wanted a game set in 5E rules, not alien tentacle hentai clusterfuck also fuck you the guy you're escorting got 0hkoed by a barrel exploding also NPCs don't have to worry about limited resources because theyre going to die or the game ends teehee but here's 193003480382904802830548920475090213 supplies anyways, have fun going through 5 20 second loading screens just to fully heal your party also the map layout is so autistic for all of them jesus christ.

And your character moves like a retarded slug, why aren't we like auto dashing?

Also yes Act 3 is fucking dumb as hell, it will drop 20 bhaal cultists with magic bhaal magic juice on you five times, in a row. So have fun with your short res limitations, they have none.

Oh right, also said bhaal magic gogo juice makes them invulnerable and immovable. Five times. Each. In a row. And they can refresh it at any time.
There's lair actions in 5E and magic layouts designed to fuck you over in bg3.

So would you guys say that the game is deserving of its 97 score on Metacritic
I just finished Chapter 1 after 45h, completed 100% of it from what I could tell.
In my opinion, I'd say the 97 is a bit high, but not far off.
The game has one of the best gameplay and roleplaying options in an RPG. But the story, characters and quest writing is mediocre. I wouldn't call them bad, just not remarkable in any way.
If I were to give a score, it would be 5/5 in a 5 points scale which I always found a better score metric. But in a 100 points scale I'd have to remove some points for the writing, between 90 to 95 fells closer to what I think it deserves.
Though this is my opinion having completed only the first chapter, if the encounters get worse and there is less freedom of roleplaying I could end up liking the game less. Also, maybe the writing gets better, but from what I've read in this thread I'm not expecting this to be the case.

and the multiple predictions for it being GOTY?
quick reminder that dragon age inquisition won GOTY.
It's getting GOTY from PC-focused and more niche publications, but there is no way it's getting Goty in the Doritos Pope Awards, nor in the majority of Gotys overall.
The game is still too complex and niche for the majority of reviewers. The reason why the Metacritic is so high is because publications have their rpg nerds review the game.
But for Goty picks, the reviewers have to agree between themselves, and the more casual of them will accept a game like this over Zelda or Spiderman.

Dragon Age won the Doritos' Goty for simple reasons:
  • There was literally no other game that could compete with it for a majority pick in the Goty.
  • It's not a niche, "hardcore" rpg like BG3. It's closer to WoW than Dragon Age 1, a big open world theme-park, very casualized gameplay and progression.
2014 had some good games like Bayo2, Das2, Tropical Dong and even Divinity OS, but none of those have the public appeal and scope that the critics want in a Goty.
Bayo, Divinity and Das2 lacked the public appeal. And Dokey Kong was a fucking 2D sidescroller, this type of game will never win Goty because it's not "new", "huge" or "like nothing we've ever seen before".

It's like the devs are autistic incels that think being nice to someone means you want to fuck them, and then put the "let's fuck" button on literally page 1 of their fucking chat dialogue, sometimes as option one. Or option 4, which is the default option when skipping dialogue, so one moment you're listening to some literal manchild of a vampire bitch about you being too nice, and the second you're either fucking them or killing them while pressing skip. There's no inbetween.
That is why I like how romances were handle in Wrath of the Righteous. It is leagues better then Baldur's Gate 3. In order to trigger a romance plotline in that game you had to ask a romancable companion if they were interested in a relationship and the romance questline would proceed from there. You can go through the whole game without triggering a romance plot and just be friends with your companions. Here you try to be friends with a companion and they instantly want to fuck you. I half expected your OC character to tell their companions the same line that Commander Shepherd tells Jack in Mass Effect 2 which is: "We'll bang, okay."

Also yes Act 3 is fucking dumb as hell, it will drop 20 bhaal cultists with magic bhaal magic juice on you five times, in a row. So have fun with your short res limitations, they have none.
Are you talking about the huge group in the undercity? You don't have to fight any of those guys. I just cast invisibility on one person and had them run past. There is a fast travel point right before the temple you can use to get the rest of the party there.

Larian relased some stats from the first week:

1691768126526.png

Paladin chads number 1.
Elf fags barely wining over humans.
A lot more evil playthroughs than I expected.
A bunch of meaningless stupid numbers about quantity.
And for no one's surprise, there is no mention of "body type", nor gender chosen. I wonder why.

The latter has been painful and I find many of the enemies are over-tuned and the item distribution unbalanced .
Yeah, you really need to know the PF system to get that game to work, especially on Core or above. Once you do it clicks, and boy does it click, but before then it's pulling teeth. For example, there's a difficult segment that's like... a big industrial plant that feels out of place with the rest of the setting. Inside, there are enemies that are fucking impossible to hit with regular attacks on anything but a 20. You can't dispel most of their buffs without a crazy high roll similarly. You have to inspect them, figure out that they have low fortitude saves, and load Nenio up with the frozen prison spell and suddenly the place becomes a complete cakewalk. Fights that could take nearly half an hour of misses and resists take five minutes once you find it.

Meanwhile, in BG3, everything is vulnerable to being shoved into a giant pit or having 6 explosive barrels thrown at them.
