Scrolling back I'm noticing someone said it's better than Joss Whedon movies, but hand to god I literally thought he amount of fucking quipping and one-liners all over the place was almost exactly on par with Whedon scripts. It was nearly as bad in this as they were in Captain Marvel. Unlike IW where the nearly 2 and a half hours all clipped by at an amazing pace and never felt like it let up, there were entire chunks of this were I was bored shitless. That climax makes up for it several times over, but goddamn.
I want to use a weird analogy and see if anyone gets it; any of you like System of a Down? Their last releases Mezmerize and Hypnotize? The general fan consensus is that Mezmerize was a single, cohesive experience that was all "pretty good", whereas Hypnotize had higher highs, but much lower lows. That's what Infinity War and Endgame are. One consistently really good with maybe one or two moments of true greatness, and another that has a lot of high places, and then a lot of "What the shit is this?".
I enjoyed it, and I'm going with a different group of friends to see it again over the weekend and it might hit me differently, but that wasn't exactly the movie I expected it to be going in.
