Turkish military is caliming they;'ve taken control while the official government denies the announcements.

Telegraph live feed dijo:
Yildirim says "it would be wrong to call it a coup" but that there has been an attempt by "part of the military".

He describes it as an "illegal attempt" to seize power.

Turkey would never allow any "initiative that would interrupt democracy", he said, and promised the perpetrators "will pay the highest price".

The Telegraph dijo:
Earlier, military jets were heard flying over the capital, Ankara.

Media reports said ambulances were seen in front of the Turkey's military headquarters.

Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge were both closed on Friday, local television channels reported.

The Guardian dijo:
A witness in the country’s capital told Reuters that gunshots were heard as military jets and helicopters were seen flying overhead. Witnesses in Istanbul, Turkey’s biggest city, also spotted helicopters overhead, the agency reported.

Latest updates also claim that internet and communications have been shut down, but it's unclear as to weather the military or government was responsible.

Also, hilariously enough, not even 4 months ago the Turkish Military threatened legal sanctions against those spreading "false rumors" they were planning a coup.

So apparently the Turks are fucking around outside Incirlik AFB.

Incirlik is a facility used by the US in cooperation with NATO to house nuclear weapons.

Yeah Incirlik has quite a large arsenal. It is a proverbial gold mine for those people. I went through the base over a decade ago. The nukes are deep underground and are protected by a three tier system so they aren't getting them unless they blow themselves up. However, there is a bunch of other toys on that base. Usually US military bases have a 500 yard buffer zone from hostile action in the front of their gates so if they are blocking the entrances that close that definitely is a major violation.

One thing that has ticked me off about this whole thing is how the media is mostly accepting Erdogan's explanation, uncritically reporting Erdogan's scapegoat of Gullen while making no mention of the kemalists who themselves claimed to be behind the revolution, with the motive of making the country more secular again. Sanjay Gupta on CNN himself dismissed the islamist nature of Erdogan saying it was a "untrue western talking point" after a Turkish citizen called in saying that was what he believed to be the motive. Gullen, a Islamic preacher backing a secular coup makes absolutely no sense, It is starting to look like, to me atleast that the actual motives of the coup have been suppressed, and western media is either incompetent or outright compliant.

Western media is incompetent to the point of corruption. They don't do anything resembling their job, just reflect the attitudes of the corporations that own nearly all mainstream media. This involves acting as glorified stenographers and not risking "insider" access by simply repeating verbatim whatever the government tells them to say on the few occasions where their corporate owners don't.

In this case, they just frankly don't give a flying fuck about Turkey. World leaders from Obama and Merkel on down have decided to back Erdogan because the coup wasn't going to work, whether or not they were otherwise inclined to support it. It wasn't going to work and there was no bonus for backing the loser. So to prop up the one they decided to back, at least for now, they are going with the laughably bogus Gullen narrative. Their readers and viewers won't know or care.

- Imprison patsies framed for a toothless coup.
- Free murderers, rapists and career criminals who will create chaos on the streets to prevent prison overcrowding.

Sounds like a great plan, Erdogan. Next step will probably be "exiling" most of those 38,000 to liberal Europe.
Seeing how shitty turkish laws are, some of the inmates that are going to be released might as well have been jailed for some ridiculously idiotic reason anyway, I doubt he's going to release rapists and murderers...

Then again, he's already voiced his opinion that he's in favor of armed militias (ie: his very own goatfucker-SA) roaming the streets.
With Erdogan, you never know.
