Wrong genie Will

Right genie, wrong actor. We needed Sinbad up in here

I stumbled across this article confirming that Jasmine is going to be turned into a feminist for no good reason. They don't use that word, but it's pretty obvious.

It also isn't a surprise seeing as how Disney's attempts to make their live action princesses strong has resulted in them being completely re.tarded. For example, the live action remake version of Cinderella was able to leave her home, meet the prince in the woods to flirt, and have friends who questioned why she stayed with her abusive relatives. And how does Cinderella respond? She says that her parents loved their home, so she stays to love it for them. Fucking what? Disney also doesn't have an issue with giving creative control to self-absorbed twats like Emma Watson. Here's a fun timestamped video that goes down the list of everything that Watson fucked up in Beauty and the Beast.

ETA: Disney also likes to show off characters' dead/dying mothers in their remakes, because awful remakes need backstories that nobody asked for. This doesn't have anything to do with feminism, but no one wanted to see Belle's plague-ridden mother. Sweet dreams, kids.

Going back to the article, it links off to more articles whining about how Jasmine was the only female character in the film. Who cares? She was her own person, she was strong, determined, had hopes and dreams, she even left the palace without hesitation, only stopping to say goodbye to Rajah. But going by Disney's Get Woke Go Broke logic, she now needs to have a female chambermaid to complain to, because that somehow equals strength. Yes, the writers have ditched a bad ass pet tiger for a slave who will likely contribute absolutely nothing to the movie. But don't you worry, Rajah will play a tiny role in the film, because Disney has to sell those animal plushies.

LOL a hip-hop genie. Didn't they already try to pull that shit with Kaazam? Shaq's awful freestyles should have aborted this shit two decades ago.

We should just ban Emma Watson. Like, from the planet. And the people who got the idea for these live-action remakes while we're at it.

So does this mean we're not going to get the scene where Jasmine ignorantly stole an apple to feed a child and the vendor is about to cut off her hand before Aladdin swooped in to save her because that's not what it means to have a "feminist" princess?

Best part of the article is this.

Part of telling the story about Princess Jasmine's arc in the Aladdin remake for Disney is her solo song in the movie. Naomi Scott says that the song is about not being "shut down" and being allowed to "speak out," which should resonate with audiences. Scott noted that there's another song in the movie that takes place near the beginning and that it's more of a lullaby.

So I guess that Disney is deciding not to make the movie culturally accurate after all, if their female Middle East character is allowed to sing this and not get punished.

Jasmine was a girl power marketing symbol in the original film too anyway.

That's more a matter of execution than anything. Also did they really imply they were going to make it authentic to the native culture at some point? What native culture? Aladdin is trans-oriental in origin. It has bits from China to the Maghreb. It's not even exclusively islamic in origin. Assuming they're making the common mistake of Muslim=Arab then it'd be an extremely offensive movie by most western standards.

I'm really just not charmed at all by these live action remakes. I kinda just want something new from Disney that isn't a sequel, reboot or retelling. The Marvel side has had some great strides, why not branch into books? Chronicles of Prydain(The Black Cauldron) could make for some good movies..maybe even The Belgariad.

I'm gonna give this and The Lion King a miss.
