Yeah, this is a bad bad idea on his part.
Most responsible gender doctors will tell you that removing the testes causes a huge amount of shrinkage and scarring, often reducing the amount of usable genital material for later sex reassignment. In most cases, it prevents later operations by making it impossible to do the surgery properly.
In other words, by getting his stuff cut out, he's ensuring that he will probably never have a vagina. Instead he'll just be a very damaged male... forever.
