10 years of gamergate

I always wonder why commentators online act like Gamer Gate is the most incomprehensible thing around. It was a pretty simple situation that led to a culture war. People just have different perspectives on it, it's not like the event itself is complicated. And even if it was complicated, there have been a million videos and essays written about it, how can anyone with even a cursory investigation not get their bearings on what people are fighting about?

Quinn, hard as she tried, never got any serious game studio to actually employ her as an "ideas guy", which is why she resorted to scammy kickstarters and comic books nobody read to make money.
Feminist Frequency/Anita Sarkeesian is why Sweet Baby Inc exists. She was consulting studios like Arkane and the like in the immediate aftermath of GamerGate. Pretty sure that one Battlefield period piece game with the female amputee main character was her idea too.
The thing about Anita that I recall is that she would recieve games from interested parties, and then never actually play them, yet include them in her videos to act as though she had played them because she'd give essentially a generic word for word profile on the women in said games.

Are there any women in games besides that Roberta lady that aren't pozzed feminist freaks?

We thought things would go back to how it used to be (or atleast, change for the better). Instead, All the game journals keep making shit articale after shit article as they keep bleeding money and losing their jobs. Game devs keep making games no one asked for and have to get bailed out by the government just for the studios to stay alive.

I do hope things will turn for the better now that Blackrock and DEI are starting to lose steam but you never know. This new generation of game devs seems more interested in spreading "the message" and being a "good ally" then making good games.

If I recall correctly, her then boyfriend was the author behind all her videos. When he left, she slowly went into obscurity only to have a fake wedding as her 40th birthday. Kinda reminds me of Amy Schumer and that e-whore who sold her bathwater.

He was. When she dumped John McIntosh, she tried to make like two videos in his style, both failed, and then she spun up a low-effort Buffyverse retrospective and started a podcast with Carolyn Petit and some fat black woman with a shitty side cut I've never heard of. Meanwhile, John found some sustained success under the new persona of the Pop Culture Detective, which still nabs good views, his release schedule is just dogshit.

Really, considering her master's thesis was all about over-analyzing the Whedonverse, the fact that Feminist Frequency turned into a Buffy fan channel in all but name was the sign that McIntosh was well and truly excised and Anita was the one in control now.

Gamergate was mostly about manipulating the narrative.

Pro gamer gate grifters making it about ethics and game journalism

Anti gamer gates making it about racist misogynistic gamers harrasing game journalists

The best thing to come out of this is Jim tho

I remember depression quest popping up again sometime after gamergate, except this time it was on memes that were criticizing it for its shallow view of depression, with zero mention of zoe quinn or any of its relation to gamer gate. I don't have any saved but it usually had something to do with gen z and how they view mental health.

It was honestly surreal seeing the game get mentioned again except with everyone discussing it like it was generic shovelware and not really noteworthy, completely unaware of its history, It was like gamergate never happened on the scale that it did.

Well, it sure does look like it was the catalys for a second video game crash. Best part is it'll be because of DEI bullshit and not a massive influx of shitty games like 1983's crash. At least with digital games we won't have to create a landfill to throw away millions of discs of this trash. Then again, DEI bullshit will still probably be happening and this idiots will think everything is alright because they won't be able to see a landfill filled with their garbage, like the ET cartridges.
