Tbh regular journalism also lost large part of its credibility and relevance in last 10 years.
 
Gamergate broke journalism and gave rise to independent grifters across all subjects, anti-feminists whom latched onto GG unknowingly contributed to trannydom and in many cases joined it, Zoe Quinn is still fat, John Flynt is right wing, all cows are becoming horrorcows

I don't know if we're better off but it sure is fucking weird

College "video game" diplomas consist of learning Unreal™, Blender and a bit of coding. Anyone who completed high-school can enroll. These colleges work hand in hand with the game industry to churn out cheap labor.

With licensed engines, good graphics are a few clicks away.

Today, my greatest degeneracy is being unmotivated and lazy.

Before GamerGate, I was one of the most degenerate people I've ever known.

GamerGate led to me climbing out of that pit. I realized there was a pattern to it all, and that by inferring and focusing on a pattern constructed from the negation of the evil one I saw in the opposition to GamerGate, I could fix many problems in my life. Not saying the Good Lord was not involved here either, but He saw what I was doing, blessed it, and helped out.
 
Overall, GamerGate has achieved it's initial goals.
Nobody trusts the gaming media anymore.
While independent reviewers thrive and make millions on Youtube and other platforms, all the Kotakus and Polygons who are just glorified PR for AAA games are going out of business.
People are more aware of ideological creep into gaming, especially if it's at the cost of quality, games that focus on that get boycotted now pretty much across the board.
GG was mostly beneficial, I think.
Sure, there was a lot of cringe online related to that but so what?

That shit was a mask off moment for for the history books (if they were honest).

Of corrupt government power being wielded unjustly.

Even if it was just over video game journalists being made fun of for being corrupt.
 
I always wonder why commentators online act like Gamer Gate is the most incomprehensible thing around. It was a pretty simple situation that led to a culture war. People just have different perspectives on it, it's not like the event itself is complicated. And even if it was complicated, there have been a million videos and essays written about it, how can anyone with even a cursory investigation not get their bearings on what people are fighting about?
