Gamergate was the brimstone that killed fandom. It showed that fandom could be a profitable sphere for grifting, which attracted a bunch of unpassionate faggots to fandom such that the posers now outnumber actual fans by magnitudes. If you want heckin' fanfic, you have to put up with a bunch of woke self-inserts in a bad story made to get updoots, and if you want to get away from wokes, you either have to go to the "neutral" people who are super influencer-like or the right-wing grifters who have even more of an unpassionate, no-fun-allowed attitude than the wokes. The sad thing is that things may never change and will only get worse.

Starting a GamerGate is a very complex ritual that involves a skanky lady sleeping with 5 different men under specific star alignment (or getting Donald Trump to tweet about it) so it could be any day. Only the oracles know for sure.

Misrepresentation of what diversity is in video games have made modern things suck as well as hiring shitty writers and its infected every hobby. Quinn, hard as she tried, never got any serious game studio to actually employ her as an "ideas guy", which is why she resorted to scammy kickstarters and comic books nobody read to make money.
Feminist Frequency/Anita Sarkeesian is why Sweet Baby Inc exists. She was consulting studios like Arkane and the like in the immediate aftermath of GamerGate. Pretty sure that one Battlefield period piece game with the female amputee main character was her idea too.
