US Five Oregon Counties Vote to Secede and Join Idaho

Originally written by Michael Patrick Leahy on May 19, 2021

Five rural Oregon counties voted on Tuesday to secede from the state of Oregon and join the state of Idaho.

The Idaho Statesman reported:
Thousands of people in eastern Oregon voted Tuesday for their elected officials to consider ditching their state and becoming part of Idaho.
Voters in Sherman, Lake, Grant, Baker and Malheur counties all voted for ballot measures that would lead to them becoming Idahoans. People in Union and Jefferson counties had already voted in favor during the November election. . .
The vote is only the first step of the “Greater Idaho” project, which would allow some Oregon counties to join a state that advocates say more closely aligns with their political preferences.
Breitbart News reported in April that a political action committee and a new 501 c 4 non profit group are driving efforts that will allow rural counties in Oregon to join Idaho:
Move Oregon’s Border is a Political Action Committee formed in 2019 that focuses on Oregon ballot initiatives. In March, Move Oregon’s Border founder Michael McCarter announced the establishment of a 501 c 4, Citizens for Greater Idaho, which will focus “on Idaho, Oregon, and beyond, to support the vision of Move Oregon’s Border.” . . .
Petitions gathered by Move Oregon’s Border have forced the placement of ballot initiatives to change the border between Oregon and Idaho for consideration by voters in nine Oregon counties.
Ballot initiatives to change the border between Oregon and Idaho have already been voted on in four Oregon counties. Two counties (Union and Jefferson) voted in favor of moving the border in November, while two additional counties (Douglas and Wallowa) voted against changing the border.
On May 18, the ballot initiative to change the border between Oregon and Idaho will be voted on in five additional counties: Baker, Lake, Grant, Malheur, and Sherman.
“Move Oregon’s Border continues to collect signatures in seven other counties where no vote has occurred yet: Curry, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath, Harney, Morrow, and Umatilla counties,” the group’s website states.
Move Oregon’s Border founder and president of Citizens for Greater Idaho Mike McCarter said in a statement released on the group’s website on Wednesday:
This election proves that rural Oregon wants out of Oregon. If Oregon really believes in liberal values such as self-determination, the Legislature won’t hold our counties captive against our will. If we’re allowed to vote for which government officials we want, we should be allowed to vote for which government we want as well.
The statement added:
The election results this week were much stronger than the results in November. “We got on the ballot too early in those counties, before voters had heard of the idea, and before we could educate them on the benefits of joining Idaho, and before we had money for ads. The results this week prove that we were right to spend a little money on educating the voters in these counties. We only spent a tenth of the spending per voter that a typical state senator campaign spends, but it was enough. Now we need to raise funds for the next counties. Greater Idaho will be on the ballot in Douglas, Harney, and probably several other counties where citizens are still collecting signatures or asking county commissioners to put it on the ballot,” McCarter said. “Crook County commissioners invited us to a meeting next week to discuss putting it on the ballot.”
In Oregon, several state legislators have been quoted in the press in support of the border relocation. Reasons the Oregon Legislature should want to let rural Oregon join Idaho were given by McCarter: “In 2019, the average northwestern Oregonian wage-earner subsidized eastern/southern Oregon counties by $367 per year. Are they willing to keep paying that, just so that Oregon looks big on a map? Letting these counties go would mean the Oregon Legislature would avoid gridlock when Republican legislators walk out to try to deny a quorum. We list more reasons at greateridaho.org”
“The signature-gathering effort ‘to gain political refuge from blue states, was hampered last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s now picking up some momentum. Several prominent elected officials in Idaho, including Gov. Brad Little, have expressed support for the movement,” Oregon Live reported on Wednesday.

Southern ID would be ok with it. They have a lot in common. Potatoes, ranching, and mormons. The north not so much. Though they may go along if it means they could get the State of Lincoln (eastern WA/northern ID) off the ground. Long shot, I know. But if they make DC a state anything is possible.
If Lincoln, Jefferson and this happen and DC becomes a state... uhh, how many stars is that.

Well, whatever, because then the annoying fucking Portlandians and Califags will just move into those places and shit them up.

Already have. I mean look what has happened to western Montana.
It was interesting when I travelled through it in 2020 - the eastern and central businesses didn't give two shits if you wore a mask, but the extreme western businesses around Glacier National Park did.
As someone who lives in Oregon but not in the seceding counties, that scares me NGL. Oregon's pozzed because of Portland as it is, I don't want it to get worse.
It very well may not happen, but upon seeing the website, I think you'll be okay if it does happen: their ultimate plan to extract roughly 90% of Oregon from Portland.
So, uh, does Idaho get a say in this?
That's part of the question - yes, they do. Idaho is plenty pissed off by Californians invading, but like many others have said, eastern OR and WA are a different animal from their western counterparts.
The Idaho Legislature would have to approve it, so yes. And they likely would since the Idaho Legislature has an overwhelming Republican majority and these Oregon counties are all deeply red. But so would the Oregon Legislature, which is overwhelming Democrat, and there is zero chance that they will approve it. So this is all just a symbolic "fuck you" to Portland and Salem.
It's interesting, because failing the attempt to join Idaho, I feel like these counties might give another "fuck you" and create their own state without permission from the OR gov't and the feds. They'll stop paying taxes and paying homage to the cesspit that is Portland altogether. They'll stop sending shit to California. That is, if they're mad enough, and judging by their plan to squirrel away ~90% of Oregon, they seem mad enough. I just wish eastern OR and WA well, and that they don't get killed by jackboot thugs.

I never actually thought that balkanization like this would occur in my lifetime.
:story:

California doesn't even grow produce anymore. They get that from Mexico.
California can’t stop having ecoil outbreaks in any produce it grows, the agricorps have lost billions but won’t do anything proactive to stop contamination of their water supplies.

Eastern Oregon grows more potatoes then all of Idaho. Idaho’s biggest crop is actually sugar beets, but marketing thought potatoes were sexier.

PDX and Kate Brown that bad, huh?
Absolutely yes. They're bad enough even a decent number of my local dems think they're pozzed, at least in closed doors where their "fellow" dems who slavishly suck the Mainstream Media's cock aren't around. Portland being very solidly blue is the only thing that gets the dems consistantly elected in Oregon, if Portland were evenly split, the state would be a tossup each election. So Brown and all the other democrats are a clowder of cats lapping every drop of greasy milk from Portland to ensure their next election remains blue.

Sounds like another Democrat stronghold.

There are methods used historically to deal with annoying rats like what happened in the South post reconstruction that led to the great African American Northern Migration as a result.

I will leave the imagination to you but either make the area not welcome for Californians and don't vote for politicians who encourage it.

Nothings going to happen.
Also California brings in more revenue to the country than all its surrounding states combined, so if California needs supplies it's going to take priority. we are called a united states, theres no leeching because every state is dependent on eachother. For example Idaho is about agriculture, if you eat a potato and you are not from Idaho then you are most likely "leeching" off of Idaho.

California also provides the majority of produce for the country so if you're eating fruits, vegetables or nuts, you're most likely "leeching" off of California.

Also even though California is the leading state of soyboys, it is also the leading state in producing Cows milk.
The real deal with California is the simple fact that it covers the majority of the western coast of the USA and so no matter what the US is stuck with them as they're the gateway to much of the world.
Californians always rage on about their agriculture but completely ignore (likely due to ignorance) how much of that agriculture relies on surrounding states propping it up and that a lot of it is pretty wasteful. For the waste just look at almonds.

California would have fallen long ago if not for the fact that it dominates the best parts of the western coast and due to this it can afford to tell the entire rest of the USA to fuck off because the leadership knows that the country relies on those imports and exports. Everyone outside of California and many inside of California know the state is a massive leech on everything, Californians are just too prideful.

I hope you were playing devil's advocate btw.

California could easily solve its water and power problems with nuclear power plants and desalination plants.
It's cheaper for Commiefornia (and most importantly, isn't in their backyard) to keep leaching water and power from other states. Desalination especially, it's several times more expensive (per gallon) to desalinate water (no matter where you get the power) than it is to simply move it from somewhere else.

California is the ultimate case of "have your cake and eat it." They want an ultra-progressive society that's tolerant to everyone (especially the homeless and drug addicts), gives lots of free stuff to people in need, and protects the environment. But they also want a society that's high-tech and modern, preserves all sorts of beautiful landscapes (including manmade ones like those pretty eucalyptus trees), keeps taxes (especially property taxes!) as low as possible, and produces all the food and wine they'll ever need. So you get cities full of drug addicts and homeless camps, illegal immigrants (who allegedly work as migrants) get free shit everywhere and commit all the crime they feel like, the state burns down every August/September or so, they have rolling brownouts, their school system is on par with Mississippi, they gouge the taxes out of people anyway because the state's broke, etc. And they can't fix it because it requires endless "impact studies" (8-9 figures right there) and usually it doesn't get built anyway because some local group sues to block it or it's going to harm some endangered frog or whatever.

People always thought the South or West Virginia is "Third World America", but the closest thing to it is going to be the West Coast (aka Brazil or Mexico with slightly more English speakers) at this rate given the "feel-good" policies progressivism is based on.

I never said it wasn't. And I agree with pretty much everything else you said.

It just seems stupid as the "most progressive" state in a nation known for innovations to be such trash.

CA has had water and water related infrastructure issues for a long ass time. I'm no history expert but I'd say stuff started going down the shitter during the early 1900s when the water wars took place. I'd say Mulholland's water aqueduct and dam projects really started fucking up socal and basically set the political tone to this day. Tons of corruption, deceit, political subterfuge and more. The St. Francis dam disaster in 1928 was probably the worst fuckup the LA DWP could have done on the county's citizens. The damn dam killed around 400 innocents when it failed.

No wonder CA's infrastructure is still shit to this day.
Bro let me explain the history of California water management to you in one image. The central valley was a lake in 1851.

The 1851 satellite took pretty good pictures.
Was gonna say "the fuck is this supposed to be? We got a time machine up there?"

The Central Valley area has actually thoroughly fucked itself on groundwater, there are some photographs kicking around of spots in the San Joaquin and such where the ground has actually sunk something like 20 feet or more because they've overtaxed the aquifer in that area so badly.
