US Five Oregon Counties Vote to Secede and Join Idaho

Originally written by Michael Patrick Leahy on May 19, 2021

Five rural Oregon counties voted on Tuesday to secede from the state of Oregon and join the state of Idaho.

The Idaho Statesman reported:
Thousands of people in eastern Oregon voted Tuesday for their elected officials to consider ditching their state and becoming part of Idaho.
Voters in Sherman, Lake, Grant, Baker and Malheur counties all voted for ballot measures that would lead to them becoming Idahoans. People in Union and Jefferson counties had already voted in favor during the November election. . .
The vote is only the first step of the “Greater Idaho” project, which would allow some Oregon counties to join a state that advocates say more closely aligns with their political preferences.
Breitbart News reported in April that a political action committee and a new 501 c 4 non profit group are driving efforts that will allow rural counties in Oregon to join Idaho:
Move Oregon’s Border is a Political Action Committee formed in 2019 that focuses on Oregon ballot initiatives. In March, Move Oregon’s Border founder Michael McCarter announced the establishment of a 501 c 4, Citizens for Greater Idaho, which will focus “on Idaho, Oregon, and beyond, to support the vision of Move Oregon’s Border.” . . .
Petitions gathered by Move Oregon’s Border have forced the placement of ballot initiatives to change the border between Oregon and Idaho for consideration by voters in nine Oregon counties.
Ballot initiatives to change the border between Oregon and Idaho have already been voted on in four Oregon counties. Two counties (Union and Jefferson) voted in favor of moving the border in November, while two additional counties (Douglas and Wallowa) voted against changing the border.
On May 18, the ballot initiative to change the border between Oregon and Idaho will be voted on in five additional counties: Baker, Lake, Grant, Malheur, and Sherman.
“Move Oregon’s Border continues to collect signatures in seven other counties where no vote has occurred yet: Curry, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath, Harney, Morrow, and Umatilla counties,” the group’s website states.
Move Oregon’s Border founder and president of Citizens for Greater Idaho Mike McCarter said in a statement released on the group’s website on Wednesday:
This election proves that rural Oregon wants out of Oregon. If Oregon really believes in liberal values such as self-determination, the Legislature won’t hold our counties captive against our will. If we’re allowed to vote for which government officials we want, we should be allowed to vote for which government we want as well.
The statement added:
The election results this week were much stronger than the results in November. “We got on the ballot too early in those counties, before voters had heard of the idea, and before we could educate them on the benefits of joining Idaho, and before we had money for ads. The results this week prove that we were right to spend a little money on educating the voters in these counties. We only spent a tenth of the spending per voter that a typical state senator campaign spends, but it was enough. Now we need to raise funds for the next counties. Greater Idaho will be on the ballot in Douglas, Harney, and probably several other counties where citizens are still collecting signatures or asking county commissioners to put it on the ballot,” McCarter said. “Crook County commissioners invited us to a meeting next week to discuss putting it on the ballot.”
In Oregon, several state legislators have been quoted in the press in support of the border relocation. Reasons the Oregon Legislature should want to let rural Oregon join Idaho were given by McCarter: “In 2019, the average northwestern Oregonian wage-earner subsidized eastern/southern Oregon counties by $367 per year. Are they willing to keep paying that, just so that Oregon looks big on a map? Letting these counties go would mean the Oregon Legislature would avoid gridlock when Republican legislators walk out to try to deny a quorum. We list more reasons at greateridaho.org”
“The signature-gathering effort ‘to gain political refuge from blue states, was hampered last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s now picking up some momentum. Several prominent elected officials in Idaho, including Gov. Brad Little, have expressed support for the movement,” Oregon Live reported on Wednesday.

"Letting these counties go would mean the Oregon Legislature would avoid gridlock when Republican legislators walk out to try to deny a quorum"
Makes you think.
As someone who lives in Oregon but not in the seceding counties, that scares me NGL. Oregon's pozzed because of Portland as it is, I don't want it to get worse.

holy shit, is CA that big of a fucking leech, or is it so retarded it can't do shit on it's own and needs other states to give it support to survive?
California celebrated the removal of power generating dams, the nuclear power plants, the coal plants. Basically any industry that would provide them with power. (Oregon and WA are on the fast track to do the same) Then they pulled a Surprised.Picachu.Face.GIF when they didn't have the necessary power to run all the air conditioners and neon lights and other bullshit. CA got mad that they had to pay actual power rates and went crying to the feds, and the feds forced the surrounding states to sell them power on the cheap.

Which meant Oregon, WA, Nevada all saw power prices fucking SKYROCKET. (My power bill doubled those months that CA was leeching off of us) Then the water bit.

SoCal sucks up everyone else's water.

Then, to make it worse, you have the fact that the almond orchards take up SHITLOADS of fucking water, which in the 2010's was diverted from orange and peach orchards and NorCal ranches/farms to feed the almond groves so people can have almond milk.

Washington has problems with tax money and retards from Seattle thinking the rest of the state should be just like them. Eastern Washington is tired to supplying a fuckton of tax money due to agriculture and ranching then getting shit on by Olympia and Seattle. ANything south of Olympia is treated like absolute trash, to the point where there were commercials almost mocking everyone for losing their jobs. The biggest hit was factories moving to Mexico to "get closer to their Latin America Market" post NAFTA, which came right on the heels of shutting down the logging and mining industries.

WIth Oregon, it's "everything not Portland is garbage" and the wine vinyards in the Rogue Valley sucking up water on the hillsides and damaging the water levels.

It's a complete shitshow, and a LOT of it can be traced back to California's sheer greed and parasitic nature.

The rest of the country being pozzed and cucked by California when you think about.

The rest of the country is suffering because loud mouth Karens and woke minorities cry so hard that nobody is willing to tell them to shut up or put the boot in their faces or drive the Californian menace out of their lands.

Plus so many state GOPs used the low taxes meme to mock California and all its down is attract Big Business and those Californian voting liberals to fuck up the states further. And nobody is willing to like drive the carpet baggers out of town.

Can’t really blame them considering all the dumbfuckery coming from Portland lately. As a dyed-in-the-wool, lifelong liberal, I’d vote to secede too.

CA has had water and water related infrastructure issues for a long ass time. I'm no history expert but I'd say stuff started going down the shitter during the early 1900s when the water wars took place. I'd say Mulholland's water aqueduct and dam projects really started fucking up socal and basically set the political tone to this day. Tons of corruption, deceit, political subterfuge and more. The St. Francis dam disaster in 1928 was probably the worst fuckup the LA DWP could have done on the county's citizens. The damn dam killed around 400 innocents when it failed.

No wonder CA's infrastructure is still shit to this day.

The Right to secede is yours, only a Pedophile tyrant stands in the way. I'll gladly support efforts like that, if nothing else than because - fuck the regime.

Nothings going to happen.
Also California brings in more revenue to the country than all its surrounding states combined, so if California needs supplies it's going to take priority. we are called a united states, theres no leeching because every state is dependent on eachother. For example Idaho is about agriculture, if you eat a potato and you are not from Idaho then you are most likely "leeching" off of Idaho.

California also provides the majority of produce for the country so if you're eating fruits, vegetables or nuts, you're most likely "leeching" off of California.

Also even though California is the leading state of soyboys, it is also the leading state in producing Cows milk.

California doesn't even grow produce anymore. They get that from Mexico.

Lol, fuck off. People paying for that agriculture at market price. Not thieving it off the rest of the country like California does water and power.

California could easily solve its water and power problems with nuclear power plants and desalination plants.

California has fucked itself over and by extension everyone around them. And then liberal parasites move to get away from their politics and fuck up everyone else's states in the process.

So, uh, does Idaho get a say in this?
The Idaho Legislature would have to approve it, so yes. And they likely would since the Idaho Legislature has an overwhelming Republican majority and these Oregon counties are all deeply red. But so would the Oregon Legislature, which is overwhelming Democrat, and there is zero chance that they will approve it. So this is all just a symbolic "fuck you" to Portland and Salem.

California and a lot of Californians perfectly (and I do mean perfectly) embody absolutely everything most people hate about the modern American Left.

Unwarranted sense of superiority?
A drain on everyone around them?
Not satisfied with merely shitting up their state, but they want to shit yours up too?
Retarded laws, policies and taxes?
Corruption and ineptitude?
Two-faced bullshit about being for "the common man" as they fuck over absolutely everyone else in the state to please their wealthy elites?

California is the arch-progressive Dem.

California has plenty of water, but their horrible bought and paid for politicians on both sides, kept water rates artificially low for decades to appease farmers and industries that use a lot of water. People don't realize that easily 70% of water usage in california is not residential, yet the only conservation that is happening is on the residential side.

If the market had been allowed to price an acre-foot of water using price discovery, farmers would have switched to more efficient watering methods a long time ago, same with industrial applications.

All of California's other major problems also boil down to bad management from Sacramento: shittily managed forests results in endless fires, shittily managed power generation results in endless outages, shittily managed permitting and NIMBY bs in insane housing prices... the list goes on.

As much as I'd like to blame only the left, people forget that commiefornia was a solidly red state through most of the 60s iirc, and only slowly turned fully blue by the 80s. Sure the left has accelerated the problems and added an explosion of homelessness to the mix, but the turd world invasion has always been bipartisan. The right cozied up to big business while the left did the same for environmental grift and endless handouts.

California isn't horrifying because it's a case study in what happens in blue states, it's horrifying because it is a case study in what happens to corrupt states. If you think your red-state is safe from CA's failures, buckle up you're in for a ride. 2021 is going to show us all the results of decades of horrible policies across all industries finally comes home to roost.

Southern ID would be ok with it. They have a lot in common. Potatoes, ranching, and mormons. The north not so much. Though they may go along if it means they could get the State of Lincoln (eastern WA/northern ID) off the ground. Long shot, I know. But if they make DC a state anything is possible.
