US U.S. birth rate hits a 35-year low - Bad news for all you Kiwis out there who want to find a mate and procreate

The number of children born in the United States has hit its lowest level in 35 years, according to new federal data, as demographers worry that a baby bust that emerged after the Great Recession is becoming permanent.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a report Wednesday that 3.7 million children were born in the U.S. last year, down 1 percent from 2018 and the lowest total number of births since 1985.

Birth rates dropped among women of virtually every age and race group, though they rose among women in their early 40s, the CDC found. Birth rates among teenagers dropped substantially, hitting record lows. The rate of teenagers giving birth has dropped by a whopping 60 percent since 2007, and by 73 percent since 1991.

Since the recession, the birth rate has risen year-over-year only once, in 2014. Now, demographers tracking the declining birth rate say the trend is beginning to look like a longer-term pattern.

"The fact that births and fertility continued to decline in 2019 despite the booming economy suggests that this is a permanent shift to a lower fertility regime in the U.S.," said Cheryl Russell, a demographer and contributing editor to the journal American Demographics.

Studies have shown the overall decline in birth rates is being driven by steep drops among Hispanic women and women who do not belong to religious organizations. A 2018 study by the demographer Alicia Munnell at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College showed the rising number of women who attain college degrees and a shrinking wage gap between women and men are contributing factors, too.

The decline in birth rates is widespread among American women of every racial group. There were fewer births in 2019 among white women, black women, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanic women than in 2018, the CDC data shows.

Now, demographers say the birth rate is likely to plunge even more in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic recession accompanying it. Birth rates have historically fallen in times of economic hardship, the data shows.

"Although some have predicted a coronavirus baby boom in 2021, that seems unlikely," Russell said. "It’s more likely that young women will delay becoming pregnant during this time of uncertainty, so we could see a bigger drop in births and fertility rates in 2021."

Don’t have kids at age 40, too late and it’ll be too autistic.
This is a phobia because autism (at least in males) seems to be triggered by too much testosterone in the womb affecting the brain.

Besides why the fuck do you want to have children that adhere to social norms in a society like this one? Normies are afraid of the N-Word, autists embrace it. After tends of thousands of years of autistic reproduction, they will own the very essence of the n-word.

The industrialized world doesn't need as much people as it did thirty-five years ago, nor does it need Third World muds to replace native populations pick strawberries.

Kids are expensive, tons of people don't have the money for that shit. Not to mention extremely time consuming and very easy to give lifelong trauma too. I'm almost surprised to see anyone having kids these days.

That may be, but I also don’t want to run the gambit of running the gambit of another Chris chan.

Boomers were only capable of teaching their sons to be deleteriously subservient to women and their daughters to be pseudo-bisexual hot chip eating liars, and you wonder why the birth rate's been declining?

I think constantly putting off the prospect of marriage and children in the high valuation of their career is a major factor as well, but I think you're extremely overblowing the role of social media in this.

You say that I'm overstating the social media presence but then you start your post with a whiny incel copypasta lol

I think your post is correct but I also think you're underestimating how social media has influenced people. Back when the Covington thing happened it got thousands of people to send death threats to a high schooler just for standing there. You really think it doesn't influence people to avoid each other because they think the other person is automatically a thot/incel? Come on dude.

Also, didn't some scientists scared people a lot about overpopulation? There was one guy who written a book called "The Population Bomb". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Population_Bomb

This had a ginormous effect and I would be willing to trace the slump in fertility rates directly to this polemic.

Remember Assange fathered children in his 50's while hiding out in a foreign embassy.

People put too much emphasis on age when the bigger deal is finances. You had roman emperors who fathered children well into their 60's.

Hell you have Trump who fathered Baron.

After the quarantine is over 9 months from now, you'll get articles bitching about the resurgence of white births and how that's racist and oppressive.

This would be good news if it meant people had stopped having kids into super poor and shitty situation but you know those people are still breeding like rabbits

How early should Americans who want families settle down? Is early 30 or under, or is it at 18-21?

To be perfectly frank...skip college, get married right out of high school, pump out lots of kids.

But you also can see lots of those people who had children and got attached (if not hitched, I doubt any one gets married that young these days) at that age and it invariably ends in a vicious break up because they have to grow up and hit 25 together, and they end up not liking each other anymore. My parents never got divorced and they're happy but I still can't bring myself to say "you should stay together for the kids." That way lies misery.

25-early 30s I'd say is a goldilocks zone, you have decent years of fertility left, but you aren't so young that your brain is still developing and you may do something dumb and end up divorced or miserable instead. For me, 24 and 25 was a jump, from being totally not mentally ready to actually being mature enough to take marriage seriously.

That sounds like a good range. I agree on the mental jump from 24 to 25, it happened to me too.

I guess I could powerlevel here but I don't feel like it so eh. Suffice to say you need to be able to meet people and with folx getting more insular and not less, that's difficult. The drop in fertility could also be attributed to no one knowing anyone else.

I would say the primary cause of the lower birthrate has more to do with economics then any other factor. It's simply too expensive for middle class people to have children, as other people in this thread have already pointed out. Therefore, you see the birth rate decline among the middle class and also the people trying to get into the middle class.

You can start later in life having kids than in the past because your kids will most likely make it to adulthood. You don't need time to have 5 kids anymore, whereas in the past you would need to have 5 as maybe only 2-3 will make it to adulthood. Now only 2 maybe 3 is sufficient as they will almost always live to adulthood.

In all honesty these articles get paid for by venture capitalists who are the big mad that they have lower competition for workers and might actually have to pay them properly

Supply and demand is THE economic law and you better believe it applies to labour too
That's why the black death ended serfdom and ww2 raised conditions
And why feminism has been so giddily suppotted by TPTB

That's definitely true. Americans can't have kids even with our maxed out credit card debt culture. If people really want to tackle fertility than they need to do something about medical costs and the price gouging from medical insurance (insurance companies are the true drivers of what medicine and procedures cost since they are the hospitals and doctors' primary customers, not us).

It's interesting that you would post about Mormons having lots of kids because the Mormon church has one of the best welfare programs in the nation and I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I had a Mormon bandmate in high school and when her father was diagnosed with cancer her family didn't have to pay a cent in medical costs because the Mormon church footed the entire bill on their behalf. Mormons probably have lots of kids because they can afford to.

There's never a good time to have a kid. The Black Plague was a terrible time to have a kid, people still had them. The Dark Ages were a terrible time to have a kid, people still had them. World War 1 was a terrible time to have a kid, people still had them. The post WW2 baby boom is legendary.

Humanity's history is a long car crash where it's a terrible time to have a kid. People still had them. IMO "it's a bad time to have a kid" is an unironic First World Problems excuse.

'Hang on if i have this kid its going to have a shitty life isn't an excuse, it's actually exercising your higher cognition instead of just breeding like a dumb animal
Hell even rats can reabsorb a fetus in times of crisis
You aren't dumber than a rat are you?

Economics in effect, Society takes away the benefits of Men being a Father and Men stop doing it, The first Store I worked in had 3 Guys in their 40s that were divorced..lived in an apartment with, no assets, no savings. Their wives got the benefit of the work through child support..the Men get Mac and Cheese.

We have let the basic family construct fall apart and are now reaping the effects of it.

I have to be honest I can't parse what you're saying

Yeah but they're past child rearing age at this point. The next generation is now up and they're not having babies either.

We are living in a post-Jordan Peterson world, everyone knows what we "should" be doing. It comes down to two stark questions:

1) Do you want to have children?
2) Do you know anyone to have a child with?

IMO the rest of it is set dressing. I'd like to have kids, I don't know anyone I'd like to have kids with and it's my personal opinion that most people in are the same spot. Divorce and such really aren't on my mind especially since the divorce rate has been plummeting under millennials. If a divorce happens I'll deal with it then but if you go through life absolutely terrified that something bad will happen to you then you won't live at all.

On the one hand I agree with this but on the other hand the only reason that birth rates are even being featured is because white people are being outbred by third world breeders AKA blacks and muslims. This is a problem because our leaders want to flood first world nations with these third world breeders.

Otherwise I think you're right. And even then the third world breeder problem could be solved very easily without trying to force Americans to have kids they don't want. It's just that no one in leadership wants to give up the benefits of having low iq brown populations that can easily be bribed with welfare into submission.

Yeah and "the next generation" saw the deal they got by getting married and having kids. Their experiences directly affected my Point of View on having children. I won't date someone with children and I won't date someone who wants children, it is a non-starter for me because there is very little reward for child rearing for men in our culture and an astounding amount of risk.

Erh I don't get the appeal of having kids, I had a vasectomy at 21 and ive never looked back
Plus I'd make a terrible parent
