Wandering on over to this thread in hopes of getting hair care advice (I don't see a separate thread for this issue). Any suggestions for affordable products that work for my issue? Here we go: Genetically-tragic straight hair that used to be soft and fine, but is dried-out from eons of colouring, even though I have only done roots for many years now. Got a very short cut 7 years ago that did not encourage better growth. Doesn't hang limply, isn't coarse like straw, but can never wear it down because it is something in-between. I blow-dry gently because not doing so makes my hair slick-looking, too much makes it coarse. I sometimes have dry scalp, but the rest of the mess gets oily fast due to my touching it in order to put it in a chignon or topknot. I look at the Korean ladies in my neighbourhood with their effortlessly shiny, thick, straight hair and want to die.

My diet is very, very good and I do not smoke.

What can I do, apart from shaving my scalp and starting anew? That is not an option. I am open to a Quarantine DIY Chop, however. Any products or advice from those with similarly awful hair?

I can relate, except my hair is curly. I really don't have damaged hair because until recently I never used heat. But my hair always looks damaged and frizzy when I air dry. So I started to do more actual styling to knock out the frizz, but I don't go overboard.

I have found that air drying about 80% then doing a blowout (on low heat) with some Fat-tastic mousse, and setting with hot rollers will keep my hair in a style for 3-4 days. I also use a weekly hair mask, sulfate free shampoo, and a leave-in conditioner cocktail. That is all on day 1, then I wake up and finger style it on day 2 and day 3. Sometimes I need to use the velcro rollers on the last day. Sometimes I need to touch up with my curling iron. I use Chi heat protecting spray (44 iron guard) when I do the iron, and my leave-in also protects up to 450°. Seems like a little bit of heat is the key for me. I wash my hair twice a week, and sometimes I let it air dry all the way before using the hot rollers.

Edit: I also use a silk pillowcase and don't touch my hair once it is styled. I think the no touching is the most important thing. I used to twiddle my hair subconsciously, and it made my hair look limp and gross. Just leave it alone!

Final edit I swear! The L'oreal Elvive Dream Lengths leave in conditioner has heat protection and smooths split ends. I think you may like that, too. Most of the Elvive products are very good, imo.

My other products are mostly for curly hair, but I can share those if anyone is interested.

Thank you! I likely need to put a bit more effort into my mop instead of assuming it'll look fabulous with just the right shampoo and conditioner.

I have come to the same conclusion. When I was younger, I had amazing hair that just needed a good layered cut to look fantastic. Now that I am older, the wiry grays have changed the texture, making it hard to Just "wash and go" anymore. I had to face it that I need to put in more work now. But my new routine is not that time consuming because I only do it twice a week at most.

Nope seems shipping is delayed! On my order anyway. I'm going to be happy, though. The two lipsticks I got are the most wearable ones and I do go through Mac lipsticks, the lip glasses should be fine too. The palette I bought more for the CoLlEcTiOn aspect so I'm not going to be torn up if the eyeshadows aren't all that (and MAC aint).

I did see some videos on mac's youtube channel that made me kind of wish I bought the highlighter, it looked lighter and less... yellow(?) than in the pictures and has a nice shift, oh well. :3

Besame lipsticks are fabulous. I would own a lot more of them if they weren't over $20 each. I currently have three, and I adore all three colors.

I only have Dusty Rose that I got for Christmas (from Amazon surprisingly!) and I love it. I ordered Victory Red because I really want to try a neutral red (not a fan of blue red).

I have Victory Red. It's my favorite classic red lipstick! One of the best "true reds" on the market right now. Dusty Rose is a color that has been on my wish list though; looks beautiful online.

The other two lipsticks I have are "Mickey Mouse Red" (which is a gorgeous Summery, strawberry red-- I got an e-mail today saying that it's on sale for $15 on the Besame website, btw!) and "Sleeping Beauty Pink," which has been one of my go-to neutral lipsticks ever since I bought it this past fall.

I had Snow White Red a couple of years back when that collection was out, but I wore the crap out of it and it's one of the few lipsticks I've actually used up completely.

Just Google'd the collection to see pictures. SO CUTE. I love the 8-bit theme. Shu Uemura makes my favorite eyelash curler, too: the curler with the Super Star attached to it is adorable, and I want it now! Haha.

I really hope they restock the Sleeping Beauty collection at some point. It speaks out to me because it's one of my favorite Disney movies. I'd love a Cinderella collection.

I got two things from the Sleeping Beauty collection: The lipstick, and the translucent powder. I really wanted the lip and cheek pendant/necklace (so pretty!), but I missed out.

A Cinderella collection would be absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure Besame is working on it; they tend to do a Disney collection every year now. 2017 was Snow White, 2018 was Mermaid Lagoon, and 2019 was Sleeping Beauty. Based on how well the Sleeping Beauty collection did, I have zero doubts they're already planning a Cinderella one.

An Alice in Wonderland collection would be adorable, too.

If they ever did a Mary Poppins collection, though ... I would lose my mind, and I would buy everything. That's my favorite Disney movie, and I think it has amazing potential for an awesome makeup collection.
